$1b in profit or $1b in income? The article states both and I'm confused.

Read the fine print. First, 2/3 of the profit was from overseas operations and only 1/3 from the U.S., which means that their American operation still sucks. Second, their revenue went down by about a billion, and they managed to make the profit only by huge cost cuts and job cuts. They will need to work on their top line (i.e. grabbing more market share) if they want to survive, because cost cutting can go on for only so long.

I suggest that you pay close attention to all other auto manufacturers when they report their earnings. You will see that topline growth, or lack thereof, was much worse for everyone except Kia, Subaru, and Hyundai. Ford has been gaining marketshare for 10 months and all the while reducing incentives. Kia and Hyundai have been increasing marketshare but with excessive incentives and other giveaways. Subaru has been doing it with a lineup that is just about all new.

These are very good numbers but should not have been as big of a surprise as it is being portrayed on the street.

Ford did not have to have a bailout the reason being they mortgaged every thing they own before things went south, this was not skill on their part but nessity, call it what you believe, but the difference between me and you is i want them all to make it,even if one day ford had to take bailout money i would still support them, i guess you could call me a american, chrysler gm and ford thats who i support, so go ahead and support who you want with what ever excuse you use for supporting them, but they have all been around longer than you have been alive, maybe one day you will get it, but the way you talk i somehow doubt it!

I'd buy a Ford over any other Domestic brand just on the fact they passed on the bailout money alone. They also have a better overall product line than the other domestics as well.

What is the best DOMESTIC product in your opinion? If you are going to say something like "I wouldn't buy domestic" then you are going off on a tangent and missing my point.

WOW! you read all of that in my statement! I guess I'll have to re-read what I wrote, but I do remeber that I never said I did not support these companies! I was happy for Ford making a Billion Dollar Profit ans said the other 2 companies should learn from Ford!
By the way since you open a can of worm so to put it, Do you support AIG giving out Millions of Dollars in Bonus Money to its Upper Management from the BAil-out money it received from the Federal Goverment? Is the Un-American if I don't? How can you support this, a company loosing money, almost goes bankrupt and they give out Bonus to people who almost made bad decisions! I like a job like that!

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Sagittarius

After all the excitement of the past few days you're longing for the chance to put your feet up and take life easy for a while. Ideally, you should bury your nose in a good book and be left alone until you resurface for a food transfusion. But you'll also enjoy chatting to someone you know very well and for whom you don't have to make a big effort, such as a close relative.
