UAW Said to Get 55% Chrysler Ownership, Board Seats (Update1)

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news...

With the UAW owning Chrysler, and with the Treasury still owning a good chunk, you’ll see the Government pumping billions into Chrysler forever. And if Chrysler never makes a profit, they’ll still exist. The Government will NEVER let that voting block go away.

Expect nice benefits, too, like the postal service gets. Tax -free buildings, tax-free vehicles exempt from most DOT laws, no SSI to pay, no Sarbanes Oxley compliance costs, etc. The things that add up to billions for most big companies will simply be dropped because it’s now a "Government concern".

Not to mention when the UAW at Chrysler negotiates better union contracts (with itself)- having the Treasury (you and I) as the checkbook ,Ford will have to meet those contract terms or go out of business.

What we’re seeing is the fascist takeover of Chrysler and GM, and the elimination of the one company that tried to stand up to the Government.

I give Ford 3 years before they either go away, or end up caving in and being nationalized like the other two.

Last week, workers overwhelmingly rejected an agreement with the United Auto Workers that would have brought Ford's labor costs in line with rivals General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC. Workers objected to clauses limiting their right to strike and freezing entry-level wages, and felt the company was healthy enough and didn't need further concessions. Ford also has $26.9 billion in debt, up $800 million from the second quarter.

THIS IS PATHETIC - THE UAW LOOKS LIKE THEY INTEND TO KILL ANOTHER COMPANY.

THIS AFTER THEY USED WORKER DUES AND THEIR INFLUENCE TO ELECT THE PRESDENT WHO THEN PAYS THEM BACK BY SAVING THEIR PENSION AND MEDICAL OF THE COMPANIES THEY HELPED INTO BANKRUPTCY.

GOTTA GO - NEED A SHOWER.

One would think that this was a story of a company nearly going out of business, rather than a story of an American Car Company who actually made a profit during these tough economic times.
Ford's business model to revitalize their business is something the other car companies should copy. Whether it was advertising on the highest rated series on TV (AI)or the new ad's showing the latest electronic gadgets of the Edge or Focus these ads are geared to the younger driving market. Other than the F-150 ad's, it's all about their quality and their appeal to the future car buyers. That is why with the cash for clunker's program they were the runaway winners beating everyone. The 18-34 age group could care less about unions or any of that other garbage, they want cars that fit their lifestyle. Ford figured that out. GM and Chrysler can't figure out how to flush a toilet.

The company made money in large part because of the C for C program, which is now over. The bloated union contracts will never go away. Ford will be back in the red next quarter, at least partially due to the 'we do not need to make concessions' workers. Bravo...

Let's home the quality of these 'techno-wonder' cars are up to par. This is exactly what the Big 3 did in the 80s...convinced America we wanted low power, good fuel economy, small, and CHEAP cars, and it almost killed them all. Only with advanced life support did 2 of the 3 of them survive.

This is a tough one to analyze.

Is the only reason Ford is showing any kind of profit is because of Mr. Obama's aggressive and successful economic plans? Cash for Clunkers was a huge success for Ford.

Or is it due to Ford brow beating the union into concessions and give backs last spring? If this is the cause, then Ford needs to immediately give back everything they gained from the people who make the company what it is...their union employees.

Perhaps it is both and Ford's management needs to get down on their collective knees and thank our President, Mr. Obama - and at the same time get down on their collective knees and beg forgiveness of the union members for taking 1 billion dollars from them & giving it back right now.

Was Cash for Clunkers a great success for the American taxpayer? Not for me, I did not get a new taxpayer subsidized car. How do you think sales will be now that people who were going to buy a car anyway bought one and future sales were moved up? They will be a disaster, that's what they will be.

Ford will go under shortly and the great one will bail them out with billions and give ownership to the unions and government as was done with GM and Chrysler. The same will happen in the financial services industries and all the other core businesses in America including health care.

Soon the government will own everything and begin to come out with their 5 year plans. Sound familiar? If you are too young, google 5 year plans and USSR. If you are one of the politicians or favored by them, you will get a choice government owned apartment, if not, you will live in the housing projects, there will no longer be private ownership of anything, all will belong to the state, all will be equal and receive equal salaries whether they work or not. Except of course the politicians and their families as was the case in the USSR and still is in China, North Korea and Cuba. What have you wrought? What have you done to our country? This question will be asked by the great unwashed as they lose their freedoms one by one. You are too blind to see what is happening.

Au contraire my Dear Friend,

We all see what is happening. This country is on the verge of becomming exactly what many wish it to be. A user friendly and more fair nation.

You see, for years we have allowed the greedy CEO's to rule the rest of us. We have worked hard to overcome their advantage. Now we have reached majority status and in a democracy, the majority rules.

The government will allow the majority to rise, and a few greedy and crooked CEO's will whine about their increase in taxes. Too bad for them, but that is the price they will pay to live in the greatest nation on Earty.

Yes I am sure your head is about to explode, so let's help you out. Ford started predicting a profit for the year around the beginning of the year, long before the cash for clunkers program kicked in. And since Ford did not accept bailout money, one can assume that smart business decisions, regardless as to what those were, and not government intervention is what turned Ford around.

Must be a tough pill to swallow. Have a cookie.

Maybe Ford is actually listening to the consumer and developing cars and trucks that consumers actually want. Check out the 2012 Ford F150 "Super Chief" fueled by Hydrogen.

Ford, the only American car company that Obama doesn't own, made one billion dollars in the third quarter. Destruction seems to follow everything that Obama touches.

Didn't Ford move more of it's production to outside of the U.S.? I wouldn't think those changes would be affecting it's income so quickly. Maybe it's an accounting thing.
