Dearborn Heights police officers need to clean up by starting with the front desk of the station. I observed the officer Reyne behind the desk getting aggrasive with a citizen because he asked how long it would take to make a police report. I hate to be judging people but I wondered if the color of his skin had anything to do with it?? The tough officer Reyne or how ever you spell it and his side kick captain Blondy should be ashamed of themselves for there behavior that day. Its a shame that people have sworn to swear and protect and this is how they behave. Chief Gavin do your job and clean up this mess. After doing some research I guess I am not surprised about finding out what a bad reputation the City of Dearborn Heights Police officer's has. It's sad not all officers need to be labeled but when the mess is not cleaned up then this will continue to happen. Reyne should not be bullying people that come to the station he should be out bullying crimanls out within the city limits. Shame on you officer Reyne and Blondy for your behavior........

Wow, does this sound familiar!! It sounds as this is a common problem within the dept. Where are the dept. heads to handle these situations?????????? Does anyone want to do their jobs any more. Being nice and welcoming people should be a given!!!!!!!!!!

interesting that the live in girlfriend or wife or whatever title she may have failed to notify. Maybe the police should have delved deeper into everyones relationship with the family prior to leaving the death investigation. I bet that would have gone over well

Yes IMO I still think that the detective should have done more. He is the one that closed the case. Apparently he didn't think my son was worth it. All is said and done at this point and I have been forced to move on with my life without my son. Regardless of how my son died he was still a human being. The world is full of judgemental people who do not know how to be compassionate. I am entitled to my opinion and my grief. I own it. The bottom line: well, nothing anyone did or didn't do still didn't bring my son back.

Well this my comment, I have lived in Dearborn Heights for 41 Years, my own home. With my parents for another 12 Years, also in Dearborn Heights. So I have seen the change in our Police Department and its not all good. Yes they are out there but they also let a lot go, and yes when you call in there is a 45 minute to an hour wait. And I live less than 4 minutes from the new station. I also have a problem about two certain officers. In the past ten years with one being just a year ago. My husband has had two cars totaled by two different women running stop signs. And they did not recieve tickets. Let see one just recieve her licence a week before the accident, she was also very young, so she was let go. Our car was totaled by her, my husband thank god only had a seat belt burn. But her no ticket. The other one, the same thing, she was young. But my husband is just a hard working man, that goes to work everyday, does not break the law, and it didn't matter that there was two of our cars totaled by no fault of him. Which in turn both times cost us a lot of money to replace them, they were our second cars so we carried only basic insurance, but they were both good cars. So now we carry full coverage on all our second cars, even though they are over 7 years old. But in turn if it had been me or my husband that had caused the two accidents, I know for sure we would have recieve tickets. After all were not young anymore. So yes there have been other things over the years with this police department. Are they all bad NO but there is plenty of room for inprovement. And there always have been. also by the way I don't care how old your child is, if there adress is on the licence and no matter who they live with, the family has a right to be notified by the police when something happens, also why does it matter how that person died. That was someone son with a mother and father that had a right to be notified.

Amy... speak for yourself, I know lots of people in DBN HGTS That have no respect for the police department here because of all the corruption and you have to lie to yourself if you think for a second they have always done everything by the book their are police all over the place that think they are above the law!!! come on where do you live?? Mayberry?? wake up! or maybe you are part of the corruption you know if a person fixes ticket for you just because you know someone who works at the police department, your part of the problem

That was someone son with a mother and father that had a right to be notified. It doesn't matter if the at-fault person receives a ticket...they're still at fault. If you have full coverage you have nothing to worry about. The officer has discretion on whether or not to issue a ticket. Accidents are called accidents for a reason, and a brand new driver that is the at-fault driver is already going to have to deal with a huge rate increase in their insurance, so why punish someone twice with so little experience? Hopefully they learn from the accident, and hopefully no one was hurt. Bottom line: worry about yourself.

Amy why are you so angry? There are problems with the police department, just like any other police department. They do give out many unjustified tickets, and they did have a policy for giving out these tickets to pay for their overtime. This is a fact, from what I understand they in this past year have stopped doing that. One of the reasons for the many tickets given out is to help balance the budget of the city. When I read what you are writing, it sounds like you are yelling at any, and all who have an opinion we are all entitled to our opinions.

Complaining is easy. Police hand out tickets to lawbreakers, that is their job. Traffic stops are easily one of the most dangerous things officers do. More officers are killed doing stops than anything else.
I am sure DHPD would love to simply let most everything slide, but what kind of a city would it be then?

Eric

They do let some slide. It's called the "friends and family" plan. If you have police or fire sticker on your vehicle, you will most likely NOT get a ticket. They give those stickers to friends and family for that very reason. Double standard?

I am sure they let some slide for ordinary citizens too. Is there some sort of numbers you can provide on this? Or should we just assume you are correct?
