So give the names of the girls. Maybe it's someone I know!
And for goodness sake, give the name of the negligent driver. |

What is the driver's name??

Stevie Wonder, by the sound of it... |

omg what we have to charge people with every little thing they do wrong pretty soon the jail will be full of people then what. my goodness it was an accident he didnt do it on purpose. why does he have to be charge . just have him pay the doc bill let go end of story

Damn dumbazes! First, the beach shouldn't be polluted with vehicles. Second even though the driver has most of the responsibility, the beachgoers need to watch out for themselves on beaches where vehicles are allowed...especially here where apparently he backed up, then adjusted his parking job...so when he first backed up, was he not close to the beachgoers where they'd be like WTF is this car right next to us?

I agree 100%... thats why they are called accidents. |
Thankfully the girls will be alright, the driver will have this to think about every day of his life, that will be punishment itself. He knows how serious that could have been. I agree that's why they're called accidents.

Maybe sunbathers should put a flag on a pole out front so drivers can see that while backing in.

The problem is, drivers think of the beach as a highway. Sun bathers think of the beach as a place to lay down and get some sun.
Daytona Beach, people want it both ways. it just doesn't work like that. Vehicles are allowed on the beach to drive north and south. It is obviously a highway. There should be highway signs like keep left., no double parking, exit lanes and so on. But as i say, Daytona Beach wants it both ways. You wouldntn't lie down on US 1 would you, the exact same principle applies to the beach at Daytona Beach. I've been there quite a few times, not a whole lot to do there but it is near the ocean. Sooooo, that's all there is to it. |

I don't think cars should be allowed on the beach besides just for safety issues as this one, but what about the cars that leak oil and the smell. I think also the city could generate alot of income by having people by passes to the beach as they do in New Jersey and this money could be used for the upkeep. I would also like to see firepits on the beach like they have in Calif.

I don't think the man should be charged. It was an accident. He should pay the girls doctor bills but not be charged for goodness sakes.

The Beach is not for vehicles -

Guess how many cars with your average oil leak it would take to equal the average oil spill from an errant oil tanker like the Exxon Valdez? Yep, more cars than are currently on the planet or will be in the next hundres years. So shut yer yapper about cars and oil leaks on the beach. |
Yeah this is why you shouldn't allow people to drive on the beach. Not only is it a danger to people, but it's damaging the beach. Daytona is disgusting. The shore is polluted and gross. The fact that people can drive out on the beach just makes it worse.
"There's going to be some negligence there somewhere,"
correct, and most of it lays with Daytona for allowing the vehicles on the beach in the first place. |
I wonder how many people are injured by driving on the beach or driving to and from the beach, compared to the number of sensationalized shark attacks that the media focuses on.

For a few years I had the rotation as the accident investigator for U.S. gov't owned vehicles in the Middle District of Florida. I recall the somewhat amusing words the old guy whom took me along with him for a week of orientation used in one accident case that, like this one involved backing. In this case the vehicle backed into a building. The driver immediately began with excuses. The old accident investigator says: "Was the building moving?" That pretty much narrows it all down. Who was moving?

I hope they will be ok, I had a dear friend get backed over at Daytona and her back was severly injured. It's an unfortunate accident but some kind of pole or visual is nessasary esp. with so many people hitting the beaches. Lots of sunbathers and motorcyclistsout today and accidents will happen unfortuantely! http://www.tg-firm.com/pages/Motorcycle_Accid... |

Sorry for all the typical excuse makers out there when you drive a vehicle you are responsible for driving it safely and observing where you are going carefully before going there with a deadly weapon such as a heavy pickup truck. As the guy in the previous comment says, the guy driving the truck was moving, the girls weren't moving. Suck it up, he's negligent and responsible and he'll probably be hearing from these two girls for years and years for every little ache and pain and stiffness and sniffle they get. He might as well adopt them.
Exactly, there shouldn't be any cars and trucks on the beach! |
