Back in the day, especially in small towns, police officers never paid for anything. Their salary was so small it was the norm. Free coffee, grocery, haircuts, etc. Today is a different story. This guy was way out of control. Its one thing to get something for free and its another to demand it AND inconvenience other customers by cutting the line. Now a free cup of coffee is considered corruption in some departments. Corruption used to be considered kickbacks, fixing tickets etc. Wonder what this guy colleagues thought of him, probably not much.

COPS get paid crap everyone knows this. They don't do it for the money they do it for the greater good, and you have the nerve to complain about Officers getting free coffee? How many corp. offices give their employees free gifts for doing what? Typing up a report properly. These are the men and women who their LIFE on the line, not their typing skills.
Oh give me a break.
You want to talk about some who gets paid a crap salary? Talk to anyone who works in retail or does a service job for the public. They deal with cranky, self-entitled people all day long in and out for just over minimum wage.
You think Al bundy wouldn't love a free cup of coffee every once in a blue moon? You think some poor hotel maid wouldn't love a few free apples from the grocery store, cause she works so hard and has little money?

Cops make a good salary, they have great benefits and a good pension plan.
I don't want to hear how they need or deserve freebies.
If I or anyone else wants to GIVE a free cup of coffee, a free doughnut or a free apple to a cop, maid, or a shoe salesman, that's my business.
But the moment they demand something free or make threats against a clerk or the business if they don't get something free, that becomes criminal behavior.

I hate to break the news to you, but here's the deal: I've been a law abiding citizen all my life. Retired military, school teacher.....Almost every cop I've had any dealings with has been a scumbag. Period. The profession attracts losers who need an outlet for their inferiority complexes.
I've been a law-abiding citizen all my life, too. I've never so much as gotten a parking ticket. Of all the police i have ever had dealings with, i have found the VAST majority to be polite and helpful. I only met two who were outright jerks.
And one of those is a member of my own family, lol.

When a cop runs down the perp who just robbed you at gunpoint you'll change your tune.

I am surprised this story is out of Daytona. It sounds like a Hollywood (FLA) story.

I am certain that there are tens of thousands, if not millions of good cops around the world, that do their job, and genuinely WANT to help people. But there are dirty cops like this guy. Maybe he didn't steal drugs or confiscated money (but then again who knows?), but to demand ANYTHING for free is wrong. Just like those cops in 2006 who got to the head of the line for their PS3's. If a 7-11 wants to offer their local beat cops free coffee, I think that's fine. Coffee has to be changed regularly and is going to be thrown out. I have been a clerk, and would have done it if a cop came in regularly (they didn't though). Free food? No, I think they should pay for it like anyone else. A fireman, doctor, lawyer, and teacher protect and strengthen our lives in other ways, should they also get free comps?
