Year after Sanford plane crash, new home keeps

Joe Woodard could have started over somewhere else. No one would have blamed him for wanting to escape the place where his wife and infant son perished in flames last year after a plane crashed into their home.

What idiots! Does it really matter how much money he got? He lost his wife and child. Geeze, you people are ridiculous!

More than anyone in Avalon Park will ever have.

Money? I think he had something called homeowner's insurance. His house was destroyed, and now his insurance company is building him a new one. Not a tough concept.

The two families have been in my thoughts. Such a sad story, there are no words. It's especially tragic how the Dechat family cannot be together to grieve and heal.

Surviving horrible burns is such a painful nightmare. There isn't enough money in the world to compensate the DeChat family for 'pain and suffering' But why is this article completely silent as to any pending legal action or settlement? Like it or not that IS part of the story.

Most likely because there will be none or very it will be little if there even is a settlement, especially considering the magnitude of the tragedy these families been dealt. The France family, to which Lisa Kennedy belongs, is a very wealthy and influential family with many connections and resources in this area. There are many layers of protection that their money and name provide to them. Sadly, this is the reality of the situation that the victims' families face.

Anyone with a heart realizes that nothing can replace the loss of a wife & baby boy. I can't imagine going to work one morning and having no wife, baby, or house to go to that evening.

The horrible burns on the survivors isn't any easier to take. A year in a hospital? My God.

My prayers and blessings are with both families.

My prayers go out to those who lost loved ones. I don't even want to try and imagine what any of them must be going through.

If the Sentinel ever posted photos of the victims of this crash, I missed it. Such a photo gallery would be a grand way to remember the victims.(Anyone from the Sentinel listening?) Jurnee's mother sounds like she was a dynamic person; I'd like to see her smiling face.

And, WOW, give an idiot a keyboard and a chance to sound off, and the moronic comments let fly like spittle from an imbecile's lips! "How much money did this guy get?" It's called HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE. So you know the comment came from someone who is either a) not a homeowner, or b) too unintelligent to understand what homeowner's insurance is.

There has been no time for a lawsuit to be settled yet, but there certainly are grounds for lawsuits and I hope the injured families get good attorneys. You can't put a price on a loved one's life, or put a money value on the pain and suffering of the burn victims-- but you can try. And, as we all know, having money can make things easier. It doesn't always, but it can, especially when you NEED something. Having the money to trade for that thing you need is helpful.

I wish these families all the best.

i'd be willing to bet he got big, big bucks from nascar. the france family is very generous and i am sure feels horrible and would pay big for this loss.

Not "year" singular-the little boy will be in the hospital for years and years and endure 50 or more skin grafts. The massive pain part is probably better, but he has a long long long road ahead. Many burn victims beg for death, and Mr.DeChat was burned even more severely. Every day is an agony for this family, so yeah, I want to hear that NASCAR settled millions on them. It is the very least they can do AND they can afford it.

The generous France family will not even admit that Dr. Kennedy was piloting the plane. I knew as soon as this crash made TV news that the doctor was flying. Doctors have the worst crash rate of any private pilots.
