Not sure if I follow your question. Remember back when Gary Fritts (years ago) was appointed by the commission to fill the vacancy in office when Judge A.P. Condra died? Gary was appointed to finish out Codra's term. Well, although Fritts was the sitting judge when the election rolled around, there was an issue of the word "RE-elect" on his signs. Although he was legally the office holder he never was "elected" by the people, just "selected" by the county commission. There was a pretty big deal about that back then and I forget the specifics. However, if memory serves me, the word "RE-ELECT" had to be removed and replaced with "ELECT".

I would think that id someone is running for an office that they were never elected into then they cannot use the word "RE-ELECT" as it gives an unfair advantage. Incumbents historically always have the advantage in elections.

Hope this helps.

it reads lets keep instead of re-elect. i believe there is a law that says. it is not legal to have these on any sign, if your notelected to that office.if i were election commission. i would look into this issue, before the election.

I wouldn't rely on the election commission doing much of anything. If this effected me here is what I would do:

I would Google the words "Tennessee Code Annotated". From there you will be able to link to LexisNexis and search the entire laws of this state. Go to Title 2, Chapter 19 - Prohibited practices. From that point just sit back, relax and read.

In a way it seems that if the sign just says "let's keep____" then the "wording" may not violate anything. I understand how it could "implicate" or "imply" something, but it could amount to nothing more than what is called "puffing". For example, state law allows for a used car salesman to "puff" up the condition of the car he wants to sell you, but he cannot "lie". lol. A newspaper can "puff" up a story, yet a newspaper cannot "lie" unless they want to face a libel suit.

That's my 2 cents on the subject. Good luck.

i do believe the person you are talking about is kin to me. she was raised from a great family.i never dreamed of her family, going to this terms,to try and win votes. as for the other lady running, she also comes from a great family.she has ran a clean race.never has tried to lead others on.to win their vote.both ladies are well liked.now after seeing the sign myself.i am sorry my kin has went this far.misleading the people of this great county.she was never appointed or voted to the office.she is just like her opponent, both running to be elected.i have respect for both ladies, but at this time i am heart broken that my kin has did what they did.

i did not believe it. but now after i saw it kim,why did you go and violate the laws? you know what the ruling is on this issue.did you really think the people in rhea county, would elect you after breaking the law?before i vote, i will read the rules.i do hope that what is wrong the ruling will be up held.as for jerry and debbie. both have ran an honest election.once you placed signs out stating lets keep kim as assessor of property. when you were never elected or appointed or voted to fullfill the office. how can one run for office after breaking this state rule. i do hope the state gets involved in this.

disagree if you like. but it is the truth.i believe the election office needs to prevent this from occuring again. place the right punishment for this violation.dont push it aside.and let it go un attended to because of the name .we are all equal.some need to do things wrong to get elected. yet they are no better then the rest of us.i see some have let politics get involved with christian ways.this is wrong.

i remember seeing that sign in the parade.yes it is a violation of the tennessee election rules.i would have thought, when gary frits ran for office, that it wouldnt happen here again.to me it is stealing votes.when some will say they are in office lets vote to keep them in office since they were elected before.i hope that main ones in nashville look into this. and do the proper ruling. since this is violation.

Hey, aside from the normal politics, but what is this crap that Republicans don't want Independents or Democrats to run? What sort of "voter disfranchisement " is that? I feel like I am not a Republican, Democrat or any the like. I feel that I am an Independent minded person, and voter. I do NOT want to be forced to vote "republican" just because one of the damn republican candidates knowing there is NO Democrat candidate may get all his "democrat" friends and kin folk to vote for him. Heck, had I know this I'd run for "lawmaker". I know a bunch of laws I'd place on the books. I bet a majority of you would say AMAN :)

i will respond to that. seems like some democrats, want to run republican instead of their ticket.then they want it easy for voters to just vote either way and not declare. but in august primary you must pick which way your voting just like all other elections.also as for the other race both debbie and kim have worked in the office before.but neither one was elected or appointed that seat.debbie has ran a clean honest race. as for kim she has execpt the sign saying lets keep kim as assessor of property. kim that is against voting rights. tenn state laws clearly states you have violated those rules.same as gary fritts did when he ran for office. seems like some will do anything to get the advantage to try and win. i hope come voting time that the people look at these issues before voting. i never thought kim would have pulled this. i have always had alot of respect for her.

i think you all have failed to realize that Kim is the current and acting Property Assessor. I am a little confused at how you guys can be so upset about this but think that its fine that Debbie has her signs saying 28 years experience. Since when is working at a car detailing place and Stan's experience for the Assesor's office? Just my thoughts on this.

debbie also worked at assessor of property, also she has 28 years experience in office work.involving paper work.also it is a voting violation kim has made.since when was kim voted into assessor of property to place on her sign lets keep kim as assessor of property.answer. is she never was. therefore thats against voters laws.if you do not understand just pick up your phone and call any election office and ask them. yes kim did break the rules. yes kim did remove those signs.after the voting rules were violated. that is the TRUTH

I think you are just tryin to smear a good person. It won't work with people who have enough sense to know what you are doing. I will vote for the one who has been doing the job for a good while. She has done nothing wrong. KIM HAS MY VOTE! In fact these stupid tactics make me more determined NOT TO VOTE FOR THE OTHERS who are behind this!!!

"FACTS" most offices are just more welfare jobs. do very little for the County. You elected one person and they hire 6 to do the job.
