Does that mean they shot it? They couldn't get a vet there quickly enough to use an injection. Poor horse.

I actully drove past and saw that the horse was in dire need of being put out of its misery. The poor animal was not even able to get up on his from legs and was struggling to do such. Being raised on a farm, I feel that the time it took SW Ranches to respond and the owner notified was probably even too long to let that poor animal suffer. The police officers did what was needed to be done and I stand behind them 100%.

Okay, the HORSES were owned by my friend. There was two horses hit by a car. The woman driving denies hitting ANY horse-she didn't even try to brake. The owners didn't have to be notified....that is a lie. The owner was running on his other horse after the two chansing them trying to get them. He saw the mare get hit and fly over the hood of the car. Her leg was completley severed below the knee and she was pleeding from hr nose, ears, mouth, and eyes. You could stick your arm into her chest up to your elbow. The other horse that got hit right after, was oly 3 years old. I saw her today. Her chest is splitt down the middle, i could stick 4 fists in the hole....her shoulder is torn open and hanging my pieces of skin. They couldn't save the first mare(Misty) because her leg was compeltley OFF. and the other one, she should be fine in a few months. But seeing her, was sickining.

That's the TRUE story. I used ot ride the horse that they had to shoot...she was a good horse.=[

I just wish SW Ranches VFD were able to humanely euthanize the horse instead. I truly feel for the owners of the horse, as I am an animal lover and do not like to see harm come upon any animal.

Your friend should be charged with neglect for letting the horses out and should have to pay for any damage and the time the police wasted on this case.

I feel sorry for the horses, but they should have been secured. It wasn't the driver's fault, it was your friends. Everyone knows horses are dumb as dirt and get spooked by vehicles, bicycles, spiders or air.

First of all someone was chasing these horses on horseback. That is not how you catch a horse in the city. This is not a rural area where you can do that. You approach a horse calmly with either treads or a pad or two of hay and they'll come right to you. I really don't understand why this person was "chasing" these horses. That's insane.

It is humane to shoot a horse. These cops are trained to do it in one shot. The cop was told by the SW guy where and how to shoot that horse. That horse was out of his misery faster than it would have taken to euthanize him.

I would have hated to have been that cop. Poor guy. That was an awful scene.

Maybe they were chasing them out of their yard and they weren't theirs...

You truely do not know anything about animals. Horses get out horses get spooked and run. Anyone who owns an animal horse, dog, cat, what- ever would never intetionally put the animal in harms way. And certainly wouldn't want to cause an accident. The owner is probably devistated and you are truely out of line. Have you seen the drivers in south Florida?

I'm assuming you're responding to me and I have to tell you that you are full of it. I live in west Davie and probably have more horses around me than 99% of the people that read the Sentinel.

It is a VERY rare occassion that some dork lets their horse loose.

BTW, horse people are generally total freaks about their animals and give you a dirty look as you drive by them as if you're supposed to follow 20 feet behind them as they walk their stupid animal down the center of the street.

And don't you dare ride a bike or walk your dog near one of them because it might set off a panic in their walnut brain and freak them out. And the horse, too.

You are a truly an idiot. Not to mention, "sue the owner"--that kind of ignorant mentality is exactly why this country is going to hell in a handbasket. Know the facts before you comment on an issue that really affects people's lives. We knew the owner and these horses. Do you have animals, children, a life? Suppose you never lost control of something? These people were trying to chase the horses out of the way of road for this exact thing to be avoided. The owner of the car should be sued. Her vehicle was the epidemy of driving too fast. If going the speed limit, the extent of the damage to her car would not have been such. Furthermore, the horse would more than likely survived. This violent & tragic accident was just that--AN ACCIDENT! This is why they are named so. If that is so difficult for you to understand, think of the love many people had for this animal, grandchildren sho had to be told she was destroyed. And yet we spare the "poor woman" that should have been aware of her surroundings up ahead and slowed down from her road-race the despair of calling her a MURDERER! She should be sued, if a person was on this horse this whole discussion would have gone a different direction. For the love of all creatures, you should be commenting on another site.
Are you a crazy horse person? You sound like one.

First, there is nothing in the article about the car speeding.

Second, the car was where it belonged, the horse wasn't.

Third, the real problem with this country isn't the people that sue, it's jerks like your friend and the way you think NOT TAKING PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

The stupid horse was out in the road and out of control. The stupid owners were chasing it to keep it from getting hit? Wow, they must be rocket surgeons because we all know how that ended up.

If your dopey horse hit my car, you can bet that I'd be looking to you to pay. Horses belong on a person's property, not running free in the streets.

Your friend was irresponsible, and it's a shame an animal had to pay with its life.

Are you a crazy horse person, too? Does the dumbness of horses rub off on their owners or are the owners dumb to start?

And PS, why do you look down on people that live in trailers? Do you think you're some kind of hot shot that has been annointed with the responsibility of judging others?

People in manufactured homes are the people that deliver your food and maintain your infrastructure and whatnot. What would you do without them?
