sorry to tell you this but its cars that don't belong on the road. their is no reason why anyone in this country owns a car. we need more public transportation, and more bikes, and we need to see more people useing what god gave them, their legs... this young man would still be with us today if their was not a car on the road.

Just how sad is this?

One young person is dead. Another - whether guilty or innocent of anything; and we do not yet know - now has to live with the burden of this for the rest of his life. And need we say anything of how traumatized his passenger may be?

No ... instead, we find much more interest in whines and slanders of everything and everyone including each other. This is not only sad but disgusting.

Much more constructive to honestly examine this problem. I wish I could say I didn't see something like this coming, but the fact of the matter is that both sides are equally at fault.

All too often I find bike riders do not exercise sanity with regards to how, when and where they ride; and lack understanding of and adherence to the laws of the road they're riding on, which bind them equally with auto drivers. That this sort of tragedy does not happen more often is a shock to me, because of this.

Auto drivers are by no means absolved of this. Equally, they are sadly unaware of what happens around them, each considering themselves the only thing on the road. The remarkable self-absorption of people behind the wheel is scary; a wake-up call is desperately needed ... and it is pure tragedy when it comes in this form, because it's so unnecessary.

Until we as drivers and bike riders actively take steps to make ourselves safer, we will regrettably be stuck with this continuing form of Russian roulette.

Its illegal to ride your bicycle on the sidewalks unless your under the age of 13. In most states.
It's safer to ride a bike on the right side of the road. Unfortulately he died. The driver atleast stopped at the scene and had some common sense. Whether or not he meant to hit him unclear. He should have had an Id on him. I understand he probably didnt have pockets. Anyone know if he is in that group Weston Flyers?

The only problem I have with cyclists is when they're on the sidewalks, and don't observe the traffic coming out of driveways and curb-cuts. I've had numerous close calls like that. It drives me crazy. They should be watching and obeying the laws, just like motorists do.

The "official" mindset for fully understanding and benefitting from my idea is to NOT get in, on, or near a AUTO VEHICLE.
The people who have been killed and injured in all of the crashes that we read about all the time in the news would NOT, I repeat would NOT, have been hurt if they had followed that mindset.

So what happened to the dinosaurs?

OK Freddy, I know a lot about the laws. Bikes have rights, blah blah blah blah blah. It is against the law for someone to impede the flow of traffic, in other words cause people to go slow on purpose, which 99.9% of the time you bike riders do. Now I'm sure your going to try to lay your beliefs on me, how drivers should be more aware, yada yada yada. I, couldn't care less if all bike riders got run over, but that's how I feel. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that feel the same way i do.

Stupid syslists need to stay off of our roads

We really need bike lanes. The cretins who don't see the value of bikes should move to Montana.
A tragedy to lose this young guy. And, a reminder that we should have ID with us when we do sports outdoors.
