Even with the suspicious background, I thought people were entitled to second chances. Also I thought when a person cooperates in a situation, and there is no evidence they done anything wrong, that they are rewarded, not punished.
What kind of system do they run at Nova University? |

It's too bad when the culture of a place is to treat strangers with suspicion and judge people based on a label. I'm in a group of young adults that volunteer to meet homeless people and bring them food in "Lovebags". We believe that "heartlessness doesn't solve homelessness". Joe is someone I've met through the group, and I can vouch for his character. We have a lot of hope that he will get on his feet soon and off the streets. If he says he didn't steal the phone, he didn't. In case you were curious about the Nova ID, that was our friend's. She lent it to him after they started carding at the door, because he felt awkward explaining himself to get through the door every visit. It's too bad he can't go back, for no reason, really.

Well, you know all I want is to be able to go back to the library. I didn't do anything wrong, and I feel that I was judged unfairly.

NSU is an awful school, with an awful faculty.

I happen to know Joe personally, also. He is a very good person, and would not cause any problems. He cares about his appearance and about other people.
For "I have Bums" above..you really should meet some of the people on the street. While some of them are just lazy, many of them have very real reasons they are in their situation. And once there, it can be very hard to get off. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a job that pays well enough to rent a room and get food, if you don't have access to clean clothes and a shower? There is a world of difference between not causing problems in public, and being presentable enough for a job interview. It is a very hard line to get past. |

I agree. I can't stand the way bums smell or look, they are always hanging around begging. They are trash and I think they all need to be shipped away and forgotten about. As for this loser, he needs to get a life. Quit crying about being banned from a library and get out of our lives. Whiney baby is all he is. |

It appears from the nsu law library's website that the alvin sherman library that joseph miller was kicked out of by the "security officers" is a federal depository library and as such any member of the public has a legal right under federal law to have unfettered access to the materials contained within the depository, which includes Internet access. the fact that he is a "bum" is irrelevant. He is a member of the public and is entitled to use the library without his civil liberties being violated by ignorant security officers.

I find it impossible to believe they kicked him out for the cell phone thing or because he is homeless. Why was his library card in another name? Obviously he is trying to hide something. I used to work there and they never kicked anyone out, even people who deserved it. He must have been a perpetual, major pain or threatening (there are a lot of kids there--would you want your child around him?). Libraries should not be flop houses just because they receive public funds. You can't just hang out, sleep and use the bathroom as a shower at the post office, social security office, license bureau or court house, can you? You will be kicked out pronto. Why do people feel librarians and library patrons are not due the same respect? I'm really sick of this argument.

I have personally visited Joe at the library on numerous occasions..often without him knowing that I was coming. Every time, he is sitting quietly at the computer. He insists that we get up and go outside before we start chatting, to make sure we don't disturb the other patrons.
Spending time with the homeless while they interact with the rest of 'society' is an eye opener..I highly suggest that everyone check it out before they make global assumptions. |

So, it is getting close to a year since I was banned from the Nova campus. Alot of things have changed since then, I am now living inside a place, I have applied for school and I am continually looking for work.
I am amazed that I have not heard from Nova about lifting the ban on me. I have emailed multiple times and never seem to get a response, so I am considering looking into a lawyer. I feel I was unfairly judged, I didn't do anything wrong on that campus and they even said they couldn't prove that I done anything wrong. I will continue my pursuit to get my ban lifted. Maybe I will apply at school at Nova, and see how far they push the ban then. |
