I stumbled on this forum months after Dr. Brooksby was tragically killed....I am a woman who was once engaged to Dr. Bob Brooksby ("Bob")and who spent 7 years with this one-of-kind man. I cannot express the absolute anguish that lives in my soul because of what Rodney Newkirk did Oct.1 2006 some time around 3:45 p.m. Bob was the rock of his family, THE ONLY family those 7 children had in their lives!!!!Anyone who knew Bob knows he is absolutely unforgetable...he is unlike any person I have ever met for so many reasons. We were not married for personal reasons, but our love was a forever thing... he was one of the strongest people I have ever known. I can still hear his amazing voice and the distinct sound of his cowboy boots walking down the hall and up the stairs, his laugh, his hands, his eyes, his toes, his smell, his presence (quietly strong & VERY powerful). I know that his children's hearts are crushed forever...they have lost the last family member that they loved...they walk alone & one of them told me that every night before he goes to sleep he aches to be with his father again (THIS KILLS ME FOR HIM!!!)I could write a book dedicated to illustrating the magnitude of the loss, pain, suffering, & agony that Bob's death has left in this world. He had a gift that I have never encountered before or after meeting him, he was truly a healer & he changed lives on a daily basis. Now he is unable to use his gift and his patients are left behind just wondering what they will do to manage their pain, injury, and sickness...Bob was a brilliant man, an incredible physician, and he had the gift of healing as described in the Holy Bible. Rodney Newkirk murdered the love-of-my life, a father and sole family member to his 7 children, a dedicated physician, and a Holy Spirit gifted healer. R.N. also robbed us all of a man who had comitted his life to helping others, a light in this dark world...I think of Bob hourly every day of every week and every week of every month every month of every year...I think of this handsome, gentle, charismatic life-force being destroyed & gutted by R.N. & I pray that justice is served in full. In addtition, if Bob had worn a helmet, the only difference it may have made is the difference between an open and closed casket. I urge anyone who knew Bob that may read this to pray for absolute justice in this situation and for peace, love, comfort, and provision for the Brooksby children. Thank you, Amanda

I hear so much arguing about helmet safety. Look there isn't any denying that helmets add safety to the rider. That isn't debateable. I could care less if motorcycle riders wear a helmet or not, but please don't diminish their benefit. Do they work 100% of the time... of course not just like seat belts don't work 100% of the time either, but that isn't a reason not to use a seat belt. It comes down to statistics and the statistics don't lie. Again, I don't care if any of you wear a helmet or not. I believe it should be the riders choice, but don't diminish their value.

Gary Moody -- Franklin wrote: I hope to heck they throw the book at that driver. However. Let's assume, shall we, that these unfortunate folks were typical Harley lifestylists who made the mistake of not wearing helmets. Primarily thanks to ABATE and their lackey (NOT) My Man Mitch, who claims that wearing a helmet is a "choice." In that case, let's spread the responsibility for this tragedy around to the other culprits, who also have blood on their hands. I'm just using this as an example, since the article doesn't mention helmets, and I don't have the original reporting to go by. But what I'm talking about happens all the time in Indiana, and Pennsylvania, and California, and other states where ABATE uses the helmet issue as a political football. They are to motorcycle safety what the NRA is to gun safety. Completely bogus. Just had to make it political; didn't you?

Abate Biker,
We think that he may. There has been some talk of a plea bargain. I could only hope he does.

I WILL JUST SAY IT’S BEEN A YEAR SINCE THAT TRAGIC ACCIDENT. IT’S HURT MANY PEOPLE AND IT VICTIMS WERE NOT JUST THE PEOPLE INJURED OR LOST IN THE ACCIDENT. IT HAS INVOLVED FAMILIES AND FRIENDS AS WELL AS CO-WORKERS. IT IS SAD THAT YOU PEOPLE DON’T SEEM TO THINK THAT FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF NEWKIRK HAVE NOT SUFFERED OVER THIS. YOU ARE SO VERY WRONG. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HIS FAMILY FEELS ABOUT ALL THAT HAS HAPPENED. AND YOU CERTAINLY COULD CARE LESS FROM YOUR POSTINGS EVEN IF HIS FAMILY IS STILL GREAVING FROM YOUR LOSSES A YEAR LATER.
I FOR ONE BELIEVE IN GOD. HE PUTS US HERE AND WHEN IT’S OUR TIME TO TAKE US HOME HE WILL DO SO. HE AND HE ONLY WILL DECIDE WHEN AND HOW WE COME AND GO. THERE IS A REASON FOR EVERYTHING. WE JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS. FOR SOME REASON GOD WANTED TO TAKE SOME GOOD PEOPLE HOME A YEAR AGO TODAY. HE ALSO WANTED TO TEACH NEWKIRK A VERY BIG LESSON.
MY HEART IS WITH ALL INVOLVED IN THIS ACCIDENT BEING VICTIMS OR FAMILY,3900 FRIENDS OR JUST INTERESTED PERSONS ON THIS DATE. I’VE KNOWN NEWKIRK SINCE THE DAY HE WAS BORN. HE WOULD NEVER HURT ANYONE AND YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT HIS FAMILY HAS HAD TO DEAL WITH IN THE LAST YEAR.
GOD BLESS US ALL

X-Biker, If you truely cared for Newkirk and his family you for one would have stopped him from getting behind the wheel that day. The day that has changed my life forever. I have to live with pain everday. Pain that he created, pain that I will have physically everyday. I for one hope he lives in pain everday also. Pain knowing that he took the lives away from 11 kids. These kids need a parent and he took that. You need to know that we were trying to see in our hearts some foregiveness until he went out and drove again under the same drugs that killed our friends. He had no remorse for what he did, if he did he would have been trying to help these kids, not thinking only of himself. He needs help not sympathy.

Newkirk was in my home about 10 am that morning. He seemed perfectly fine. I had no idea what his plans were for the day and I had to leave before he did. I have relived that day over and over. If I had any idea anything like this would have happen don’t think for a minute that I would not have put my other plans on hold. It seems as though everyone wants to say he was all messed up and high. He was not. Actually the drugs that were in his system were those that will stay in your system for a month or so. He fell asleep driving into the sun. If he’d been high on the drugs at the time that were found in his system he most likely would not have fallen asleep and crossed the center line.
There has not been a day go buy that I don’t think about it all. I just wish I could go back to that day and say hay, I’ll go with you. But I didn’t know he was planning on going anywhere.
Not just me but his entire family have been devastated over this. We all pray for all of you. It’s a terrible thing and the only way we get through it is belief in god. I for one believe things happen for a reason. And only god knows why. My life would be so much easier if I knew.
As for him having no remorse? I really don’t know how you can say that. Then you don’t know him. Yes, he’s had a lot more than just remorse. And he will have the pain of living with all this every day of his life and no jail or anything will ever take that away. He will never get over waking up to what he did that day. Rod’s the kind of guy that would fill his gas tank up on a snowy day and drive around and just hope to find someone he could pull out of a ditch and not charge them a dime. He loves people and loves to help people. This has really tore him up. And when the prison system is done with him who knows what will be left of what was a person that loved people.
I am an x-biker. I love to ride but I gave it up many years ago because of seeing to many people getting killed and maimed on bikes. I have 4 children and I felt best to give it up not to risk being able to take care of them. My children are grown now and I’d love to go back to riding again but I want to see my grandchildren grow up as much as I can.
You are in my prayers and I wish the very best possible. I will say the Newkirk family has not been the same and most likely never will be again after this accident.

First of all this was not an accident. This was a crash. He willingly got behind the wheel and he crashed into 3 motorcycles. He took the lives of 3 great peple. He crashed into all of us because he was high on drugs. He chose to drive. He did this willingly. We are innocent of all this. He needs to stay in prison for life and keep our roads safe. Once a drug addict always a drug addict. He is a threat to society. He may be a nice guy but he is still a drug addict. He needs to show remorse, not go to a court room and laugh it up with family. He needs to sit down and wtite all 11 of these kids letters expressing his pain and sympathy. He needs to show all of us the pain he is in.

You abviousely don't know me. I used to be the youth director at our church. I have been to church since I was very young. My girls grew up in the church. My husband used to be the treasurer. So I believe as much as you do. Don't judge me. Reread what I said. I never brought God up, YOU DID. The Bible says don't judge and if you knew the Bible you would know that. I also have a daughter who goes to a Christian College. All I said was I want an appology from Newkirk for those 11 kids. He made the decision to do drugs and drive and now me must pay for it, and pay dearly I hope. But being the coward he is he has decided to plea bargain because he knows he is guilty. I just hope the judge sees that not only did he do this once he did it twice. Now respond to this will you?

I know four kids that need no apology from anyone and would prefer to be left out of any internet argument you people are involved in. We don't judge, and we don't squabble. We forgive and forget.

I am trying very very hard to forgive, but I live in pain every day and I will limp probably for the rest of my life. I have a scar that totally covers my whole ankle. I will always have the visual scars and will never be able to forget. I really want to move on with my life and try my best to forget. But I will tell you the argueing will stop. I will take responsiibility for all I have said and will apologize to you.
