NOt to begrudge the Dog Owners of a Dog Park, but why in gods name put it in a residental area?? Why didn't the great Parks Department just place it on the corner of Shippan Ave/Harbor Drive/Magee Ave and be closer to the city dump?? The Dog Pound is located there but not directly next to the corner lot that the city tried to give away for Luxury Office space not tooo long ago. There is a larger parking lot next to it than what is are Courtland Ave and much more centrally located. Whats the matter, didn't the Parks Dept want the park near the city waste plant??? Go figure, years ago it was the museum, then a park, then it went to Parks Dept & smaller park, now the add a Dog Park to the park? That is the only park in the East End for PEOPLE to enjoy themselves. That corner bothers no one!

Great idea designating Courtland Park as we call it. Let's see what a great idea it is when some naive resident, or some Darien soccer mom decides to go play with their puppy in this deserted park and has an encounter with one of the lovely Custer Street, Lawn Ave, or Ursula place residents. I promise not to say told you so. Stay out of that park on nights and weekends, believe me. These people have no idea what they are getting.

What a horrible idea. This little park is there for the east side neighborhood, leave it alone. The city uses the back building and all parking for the Traffic Maintenance division. The front building is used as storage for now, but Mayor Malloy is dying to put something in that front building, and eventually will. There are maybe 20 parking spaces in front that will be used for that building. So where are the people going to park to use the dog park. They will park in the driveway illegally. The Traffic Division sometimes uses large trucks, gets deliveries by tractor trailers, and cannot do so with the front driveway blocked. Courtland ave has some of the baddest traffic around and we want to add to it? Families use this park for picnics, birthday parties, family reunions, etc. all summer long. Don't these people that decide this stuff do any research on locations whatsoever. They most certainly didn't in thhis case.
I'll tell you exactly how this location was chosen. They had a meeting with the public to gather ideas for locations, and most spoke against this chosen location. Other and much better suited locations brought up were Cove island, West Beach, cummings Beach, and Czescik park across from west beach. They chose the path of least resistence because they knew cove neighborhood association wouldn't allow it, nor would Shippan which was vehemently opposing soccer fields at the time. The poor folks on the east side with no voice were the easiest to push around just as they are with school closures. Stand up now and voice your opinions before it's too late people. Call MICHAEL DOCIMO, head of parks, and call the Park Commission, ring their phones constantly. these cowards alwasy bow down to resistence. Don't accept this horrible, and VERY DANGEROUS location.
It's only a matter of time before little fido gets run over by a big city truck or on Courtland ave. It's only a matter of time before some woman, alone walking her dog is assaulted or worse in this desolate park. The fence that seperates the park from I-95 was knocked over during a storm a few years ago and it took over two years for the tree that fell on the fence to be removed, I believe the fence is still broken. Wait till some poor puppy or some little child chasing his puppy gets run over by the constant traffic that surrrounds this park..
BAD,BAD,BAD,DANGEROUS,DANGEROU S,DANGEROUS IDEAS from uninformed spineless city officials. What else is new?

Wally, East Sider and City Worker, you are all "SPOT ON" - pun intended!! Having a dog park in Shippan is a fabulous idea - but can you imagine the Mayor agreeing to this? Afterall, he LIVES in Shippan - and does not want to mingle on his free time w/ the riff raff of Stamford. Yes, the same man who's son is a drug addict/dealer and who's other children have also found themselves in big trouble over the past few years. But it's not only the Mayor, it's the rest of the "wannabees" living in Shippan. They don't fit in w/ the Greenwich crowd, because their money is either new or "funny money" so they pay exhorbitant tax rates to live in large homes on the water - in a City w/ a crappy school system and test scores below state average. I mean, who in their right mind, with money would live in Stamford? The losers in Shippan, that's who. The same losers who don't want dogs in their parks - so they create a "dog park" in their City in a most dangerous area w/ the riff raff just waiting to prey on innocent dog owners. I mean, this is a City, not too different from other cities with poor track records on treating their animals - you don't think it's a coincidence that the Magee dog shelter is next to the City dump now do you? Yeah, well then I got some swamp land in Texas to sell you. Face it, dogs are considered 4th class citizens by non-dog owners. They are HOPING that not only the dogs go away but that their owners do too. I can't wait til the City gets hit w/ the law suit of all law suits - as soon as the first woman is assaulted or worse .....in that new "dog park" .....whoopie!!! Talk about throwing us dog owners a "bone".....albeit a poisoned one.
