Thank you! I totally agree. They are illegal and should not be here, period!! We have laws that we are not even implementing. Local authorities relax and do not comply with federal laws.

Families who entered the United States from Ellis Island waited to be allowed to enter the United States legally. We have a host of other individudals and their families who presently wait for the letter from their Embassy/Counsel to enter our country legally. It is appalling and down right unfair to allow illegals to enter our country; for us to employ them and have the audacity to have designated areas for laborers to work. They are illegal.

I also grow weary of hearing how nice and honest these people are. The fact they entered here illegally means they are not honest and many have "other" issues that basically wd not make them suitable applicants to enter the United States any way. The immigration process requires adequate documentaion for individuals who would like to reside here with their families will not be dependent upon us for social services. By providing the appropriate documentation we are able to determine these individuals have a place to live; will be financial self-sufficient and will not be a burden to our cities. It makes sense.

Closing our eyes to illegals here is an insult to our legal system and a slap in the face to families who await word that their family member can enter the USA legally. A better question is why aren't they arrested and deported? Why on a local level are we not acknowledging and respecting the federal law?

You do not see Americans trying to enter a country illegally, nor would countries allow us to do so without harsh penalties which is jail. Deport these people immediately. We have an Immigration and Naturalization agency to do it.

This whole matter of illegals being here is just outrageous. Recognize the law and deport them. We need to respect the federal law and uphold it. No excuses, just do it. As citizens if we do something which is deemed illegal we are placed in jail. Illegals who enter our country are committing a crime, so they should be deported because of it.

I speak on behalf of the families throughout the United States who eagerly look for the letter giving their family member permission to come here legally.

The law is immigrants should come here under quotas. They should enter this country legally and be registered upon entry to the United States. In the past they were also checked for communicable diseases. This is probably still the law. However, nowadays our laws are not enforced and if you try enforcing them you are considered a racist and not compasionate.

I moved to Florida in 1975 to help care for my ailing mother. I was single and still had to become employed. I left a very prestigious and well paying job in the suburbs of New York. It took me eight months to find a job because every job I applied for I would be required to speak Spanish as well as English. This is the United States of America. Finally I decided to answer the question,"Do you speak Spanish?" by answering yes. I only remembered a few words because I had taken Spanish for a few years in High School along with Latin. I got the job, which I really needed badly at this point. There was no assistance for unemployed Americans who had already had approximately a twenty five year work history here in the United States and was born here and whose parents were also born here.

We have laws and they should either be enforced or there should be a change to reflect the will of the people.

certain inalienable rights ... life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

self evident ... all men were created equal ... no matter where they were born, under whose government, under whose terrible economic system.

would you have, if you were in poverty in one of these countries, the initiative to change a lousy system that victimizes you and a large share of your fellow society members, or would you vote with your feet immediately, at some risk to yourself and at the cost of leaving your family to support them adequately?

Do you work to change the aspects of our system that are unjust to working people, or is it all okay with you?

Has the inalienable right become alienable somehow over the years?

My family escaped from Hungary in 1956. They required sponsorship to enter the country and had to wait a year in Italy before they could enter legally. Once here, they had jobs and were in school the next morning. Worked hard and learned the language. In the required 5 years, they all became citizens. It's amazing to me, that the standards have become so low. My Grandfather was a lawyer in Hungary and became a mail clerk, simply so he could have a job the moment he arrived. People have made great sacrifices to contribute to this country. The foundation of this country was built on immigrants. We welcome immigration, but we must all be accountable, follow the rules, be counted, CONTRIBUTE. Other countries secure their borders, enforce their immigration laws...we should follow their lead and return to protecting the fundamental principals this country represents.

Perhaps if the support was not being paid for by our tax dollars.....while at the same time our schools are failing and there is already plenty of poverty in the USA that could benefit as well.

Virtually all the immigrants -- legal and illegal -- either pay property taxes themselves, or pay rent to a landlord who in turn pays property taxes that make his tenants eligible for the public schools and all the other services that the towns offer.

If we are dumb enough to leave such a large percentage of the rent in pockets of our landlords, we are the problem.

Let's correct the system, so that the landlord is not the big winner in this picture.

He didn't create the land value here. We all did, and we all ought to be benefiting from public collection of a larger share of that value for public purposes. A simple, wise, just, logical reform ... which too few people have stopped to explore. Google "land value taxation," or lvtfan, and learn more about its benefits -- for all of us!

What's incredible about this is the fact that the whole term "illegal" should be end of conversation.

They are in the country illegally, do not have any respect for our country, culture, or laws. They say "We only come here for a better life." How are citizens of the United States repaid? Crime, jobs taken, billions of dollars spent in taxes. They want all the opportunity, money and to live like Americans, but don't even have enough respect for us to learn our language, or respect our country, culture, laws and most of all, the citizens that live in it.

I think it's even more amazing how people (i.e. OTHER AMERICANS) are dividing this country defending them and their actions.

What made this country great in the first place was the fact that immigrants from all over the world came here LEGALLY, assimilated, and became one.

Sneaking into the country illegally, living and working here illegally, then having the nerve to make demands on the American people to change our entire society around to suit people who are breaking U.S. law by even being here is wrong. This should not even be an issue. No immigration reform - there are laws on the books.

American citizens have enough to worry about these days.

The federal government has failed miserably in its duty to defend the borders of the U.S. For that they should be excoriated.

First off, I want to say that I'm a american born citizen with a good corporate career.
You people that are bashing these illegals- calling them criminals, saying that they don't pay taxes, and are taking jobs from american citizens got it all wrong. You're ignorance disgusts me.
First off, the great majority of these people are law abiding citizens. Their arrest and prosecution means deportation - so most keep out of trouble.
Taxes - These people pay taxes as every other american does, with some exceptions. Most work under the table for cash working hard at jobs that american citizens wouldn't even contemplate, so to say that they are taking jobs from americans is absurd. They are taking jobs that americans don't want.
I'm sure you people above that are bashing these people have NO personal relationships with these immigrants. You don't see that they've come here for a better life for them and their children. You don't see that they come here for a better education and future. You don't see how hardworking they are.
I agree that there has to be some type of law enforcement to control immigration, but you're characterization of these people is way off.

You raise some legitimate concerns, but also some questionable ones.
We all like to think that our grandparents/gretgrandparents arrived here after waiting on line and applying to get into the country legally. In fact, the process was a bit more complex.
first, until 1922 there were no "quotas" (for white Europeans). The US wanted immigrants and immigrants were welcomed. They needed two things: 1. to pass a health check at port of entry, and 2. to present the name of a "sponsor" with a promise of a job and a place to live.
In fact, though, many immigrants used forged or false letters from sponsors, and once they arrived they were left to their own devices to find work and lodging. In effect, they came here "illegally" since their papers were falsified. They were just as "dishonest" as illegal immigrants today, and most of them built solid families that contributed to this country. Some of those may have been our own family members, but they don't talk about it.
if we as citizens commit a violent crime we may well be arrested, tried and sent to prison. But if we commit a minor infraction or misdemeanor, say speeding, we are more likely to be fined. Entering this country improperly is not considered a felony. In itself, it is a minor crime.
I agree that people who commit violent crimes should be arrested and identified as to their right to be here. if they are here illegally they should serve their term in prison and then be deported.
As i understand it, the City has designated an area for a "shape-up", that is, for day laborers to seek work. I believe anyone can use that area, whether here legally or illegally. i understand the possibility that many of those day laborers are here illegally, but i have no way of knowing how many. Do you?
I understand the resentment that some people have to wait in line to come here legally, while others come illegally, but to my knowledge, the legal line doesn't get longer because some people come here illegally. and if we were to eliminate all illegal immigration, it wouldn't make the legal line any shorter.

Listen, if we all took a vote. Everyone but the spanish community here in Stamford would ALL AGREE that we should deport them back to their country PERIOD! Illegal has a definately of doing something your not suppose to do! and they're marked as illegals. so take em' back where they came from. If we let them stay then we might just as well let those who broke the law. Same senario! Obey the law , Obey the rules of the United States, already they've failed to follow those rules. They want equal rights? start paying taxes first !!! like everyone. Stop looking for the government to support your children and making more and more..kids, come here legally, find a job. pay for insurance, pay for taxes, then lets see if you want to live here America! they want to live here and be here b/c all they want is the US dollars and live off government and tax dollars. I don't feel sorry for them, i don't pity them standing there in the rain or not. get a 18 wheeler pile them up .. and haul them across the border or where ever they're from.

You want to stop illegals from coming here? Then STOP HIRING THEM. The illegals aren't the problem. The problem is with the people that hire them and get away with it.

Lets look at some facts as I know some illegals.
They get thier drivers licenses in NC and are driving here without insurance.
25% of Los Angles welfare goes to illegals.
Thos day workers that getting payed cash either send it home or have kids in our school system that you and I am paying for.
Also consuming resources teaching classes in bi-lingual.
Many come here just to have a baby because that child according to our law is now a citizen and the likelyhood of the parent being depoted is very small.
The problem is our politcians don't what to take steps to curb it.
I don't for a second believe that we need the them for jobs no one wants, your drinking the Jim Jones koolaid that is fed to you via the politicians and the media.
We are not the only country with this problem, take a look at what is happening in Denmark (which is proposing tough new laws), England, and France

That is the answer to the problem, the rest of this blog is just plablum. Penalize employers who hire illegals, politicians mouthing off anything else are just spewing useless rhetoric.

Why should legal citizens follow laws, when illegal immigrants do not????? Why should i pay a hospital bill, when Illegals immigrants get their bill payed by us?? Why should i pay taxes for services that non paying illegal immigrants recieve?

It's not right, kill them all. If they keep mating, all their children become citizens when born here, do you know what that is going to do to our population?????????? We have problems covering educational cost for our children, imagine covering their children's cost as well!!!!!
