Judging from your name, your freaky about the Civil War Finds.Luckily, you're in the right area, with at least three battles fought in the county and a few skirmishes too.Slider always has a "but" and here it is,But good areas to hunt are located on private property. This will require permission from the landowner.(You probably know that already,I'm just trying to keep you out of Buds Motel). Now,go get you a Civil War trail map of Jefferson County,it'll show you where things happened. The library is a good place to research, along with online treasure hunting sites. As for cemeteries,I wouldn't be caught in one with a metal detector. In my opinion, its distasteful and disrespectful. You might see it another way,and that's fine.Folks might get an image of graverobbing.Slider knows where the good spots are,but I'm still hunting.Good luck to you.

Yep.Here's what ole Slider does.Finds an area to look in,then I get on my laptop and go to the Jefferson County GIS mapping. There,I type in the address of the property and it tells me who owns the property and gives me the property lines, plus I can get an overhead view of the property. This tells me who to ask about hunting on their property.Interestingly,I used this method to find the old entrenchments in Strawberry plains.Great way to find old roads and home sites that aren't visible from public roads.Just using the tools that are handy.

Nope.Carl never had a road. What he has,is a piece of property with road frontage as steep as a cows face.Really,Carl's road is Deep Springs and the 412 east bound off-ramp.Poor Carl.

Never ever should you search a cememtery. Not good practice. people drop stuff in a lot of other places that you can hunt..
GET PERMISSION ALWAYS! You can get into a lot of trouble sneeking around anywhere. want to start a detector group? I'd like to get out once in a while. Carry grass seed and CARD WITH YOUR INFO AND PURPOSE PRINTED ON IT.

I have metal detected down in dandridge where the water has receded at the river's edge. Where the old church is found some old horse shoes, pieces of a musket and even a turniket from an amputee. The confederates and Union spent a winter in Dandridge so it should be easy to find stuff especially iron relics which can be cleaned up.However in order to hunt on what is tvr property you have to get a free permit from tva.Im wanting to go up to the National Guard in Jeff City there is a big open field there where a battle took place. I dont like asking permission because alot of people think you are gonna tear up their yard.

I've heard a lot of things at Roys Barbershop.Even heard them talking about me.I just sat there and stared at that photo of Roy Acuff and let Judy do her thing.(God love her). In other stories,I've done some plowing of my own in a golf course or two.Especially in Bangberry.Enjoyed a few 'holes in one" up there.Doing that stuff nowadays would land me in the rough.Of course,I'm older now and always two strokes behind.Me and my "dectector". Like Poncho and Lefty.

My relative used to plow a farm in Jefferson City with a mule. This was a while back. It is the farm beside Mossy Creek that now is Buena Vista and all that development accross 11-E. Gondolier, Zaxby's, Quick Lube, Druggy Acres, Hicks House, etc. He used to carry a bucket and fill it up with musket balls, various bullets, arrow heads, buttons, buckles, gun parts, and stuff. He brought it all home and stored it in a shed. Finally had "several" five gallon buckets full of the stuff. One day his mother cleaned out the shed and seeing the "junk" in the buckets, she emptied the contents into a sinkhole next to the milk house. Can you imagine? My relative was never able to point out to me the whereabouts of this sinkhole, since the milk house had long been torn down. Probably not worth much then, but sure hate to see that happen.

I would love to have someone help me detect that big field behind the national guard and im sure some of those factories would not mind us detecting there. I did that cemetary behind the guard, didnt find anything but i want to do more of that field. Ive heard from Jeff City cops that when those factories were built, they found alot of stuff. If someone wants to help me or get together sometime to detect, let me know. God bless U
