Come on folks, give Alan Barry a break. He needs the money to pay his long overdue state income tax. Check the P.O.S. out here at the DRS list of the top 100 delinquent taxpayers.

http://www.ct.gov/drs/cwp/view.asp...

As far as the sleeping genius goes, he should be removed from school until the lawsuit is over . Then his family should reimburse the city the cost of the trial when it looses.

Next time Miss nadeau should just slap him in the head.

Alan Barry does it again. Cases like this are why lawyers are thought of as something less than a snake. The student can't be too bright--or maybe it's just the parent(s).

My teacher hit us with a yard stick... and wasnt even a Nun... ALL THE PARENTS LOVED HER. ..... Whats that I hear.... Someone just tripped on a piece of cat hair... Better call Alan Barry.. He will go after anyone... Maybe he should pay more attention to his own family... or get a second job at Walmart to pay off those back taxes

There are other ways of waking someone up other than "violence". The part that talks about the student being a "computer whiz" is highly believable to me---from experience I can tell you all that for some students doing HM until 2 or even 3 in the morning is like a drug. Also, some students can just fall asleep or just not pay attention in class and still pass with a big fat A+...yes, there are some students who are just more advanced than the curriculum.
I disagree with the lawsuit, though. Kids nowadays are way to fragile...I still remember the days where parents encouraged the teachers to do whatever they could to control their children...even a good pull of the ears or a slap on the hand. Oh the good life *tear*

First of all Mr. Barry, read the CT General Statutes. There is not such statute in CT. "Assault and battery" does not exist in our penal code. This does not even rise to the level of Breach of Peace let alone assault. SHAME on these parents. They should have been thanking this teacher for caring enough to wake this kid up who should not have been sleeping in class int he first place. What are these parents teaching this kid. The lesson here should be for this kid to get a good nights rest and pay attention in school. That is his job. I pray this stupidity goes no further. Shame on all parties involved i.e. the parents and Alan Barry and this kid
Permanent hearing loss.......... that is BS. Do not waste the taxpayers money by bringing this into the court system. Teach this kid what his job is and to respect the teacher enough to pay attention.

For goodness sakes. Is everything a lawsuit? The student is supposed to be awake in class. Not for one moment do I believe this incident caused hearing loss. Not with the way young people listen to their radios today!

You've got to be kidding ! To have hit the desk hard enough to cause hearing damage that teacher must have broke her wrist ! Hopefully there is a judge that will have enough common sense to throw this out of court.

So tell me again why we spend so much money on schools? Because the "insurance" at C.Y.A costs caused by poltroons like this. Anyone know where to get a big vat of tar and lots of feathers in Danbury?

Being a parent of Teenage Computer Gamers and I-Pod listeners. I am constantly yelling at my kids to turn down the volume. It is a proven fact that our youth today are suffering hearing loss do to the headsets they are wearing and misusing. So the question is, is his hearing loss really from the wake up call? I highly doubt it!
I was thinking the exact same thing after reading the article! A 15 year-old up late at night on the computer? I'm guessing that hearing problem he's having is from late-night techno at full blast on his "computer wizard" headphones.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.

No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, that life isn’t always fair, and maybe it was just my fault.

Common sense lived by simple sound financial policies such as, don’t spend more than you earn and reliable parenting strategies like, adults, not children, are actually in charge.

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charge with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer paracetamol, sun lotion or a band aid to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common sense took a beating when you could no longer defend yourself from a burglar in your own home from fear of being sued for assault.

Common Sense lost the will to live when the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches because business, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common sense finally gave up after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled a little in her lab, sued and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers; I know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I’m a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

This is absolutely ridiculous!!! I can only sit here and shake my head. If this makes it to the court or is the school system ends up settling, it will only serve as yet another marker to our downward spiraling society.
