Playing with fire at protests

Full story: NewsTimes.com

Watching the muscular tactics being used in congressional town meetings by some opponents of health care reform, I keep thinking somebody should remind the Republican leaders who are reveling in the scenes about Bruce Alger.

Where were these intellectual giants during the Iraq war protests? Remember what the screwballs did during the funerals of the soldiers? The damage Obama is doing to this country pales in comparison to the damage created by the American press.

I hope you remember there was an Iraq war. When was the last time you saw it mentioned in the press? Did you know we are fighting in Afghanistan? How many soldiers have been killed in that war? Why are we there? Is there a plan? An exit strategy?? What is it costing?? Who approved it?? Isn't there any better things to do with that money. Wow, wouldn't I be a great Eddy Ter?

Playing with fire? Seriously, the people at these town meetings are a threat to anyone? And they are a threat to there own party's re-election? People are just tired of being run over by the liberals in this country...it's about time they made their voices know in a perfectly legal way. Take your scarey accusations elsewhere.

Simple question to ask yourselves. Am I socialist or not. If yes, when did you stop believing in the greatest system of government the world has ever known?

Oh that's funny, as if the republicans are organizing this. Still looking for a boogeyman to blame?

Because you CAN'T understand HOW this wave is generated? Still trying to pinpoint someone?

The democrats were warned the tea parties were an "ominous sign" for the democrats. They ignored them.

They ignored the REAL message in 1994, which was the nation didn't WANT big nanny parasitic government in our lives.

the democrats interpretation? "They just didn't sell UHC right." Idiots. Complete fools.

Miss the "womb to the tomb" and "Contract with America" from the 90s? THOSE came about as a DIRECT result of what the democrats were trying to do.

Yet, there these mindless fools are, refusing to learn the REAL lesson of their b*tchslapping in 1994.

Ask some very simple questions:

1. What's the rush? Why are we jamming through something so important?

2. Why not fix Medicare and Medicaid FIRST? PROVE the government can do anything efficiently.

The government JUST paid DOUBLE the RETAIL price for a pound of HAM, and they claim they can handle your HEALTH CARE?

3. Why won't you use YOURSELVES as a pilot program FIRST? Put YOURSELVES and YOUR FAMILIES into your "oh so great" program FIRST before you shove it down our throats.

Comonnnnnnnnnnnnn democrats, why won’t you put YOUR lives and YOUR health into YOUR stupid plan first? What’s wrong with your plan that you are EXEMPTING YOURSELVES from it?

4. Why are you "tearing down a house to fix a leak in the roof?" Why dismantle what works for 90% of the nation? Why not work within the current system to improve it?

Some common sense questions to demand answers to from your idiot democrat representatives.

Tell the democrats to SHOVE it if they can't answer them....rather than act like royalty and try to SHOVE something through THEY won’t even subject themselves to.

Some politicians have decided that their constituents don't matter anymore and now they can be ignored.

It is no wonder that the people are upset. They have lost their say in government and their liberties. The American people are being told by their leaders to "sit down and shut-up".

The king of England said something similar to his American subjects back in 1776

America is a mixture of Socialism and Capitalism. Under the Bush Administration, we saw a move towards greater capitalism and it failed. Therefore we must rebalance the country by moving towards the center and Socialism.

Well said. I would redirect the liberal part to PARTY POWER, that has transformed the ability for a citizen to participate. One would only ask Why didn't the GOP take this Health Care on 1, 2, 3 decades ago when Medicare made clear that some serious problems within the 16 part Health Care of the United States was going to emerge to the top. Liberals have participated in the demise of Representative government by throwing money at problems-a diagnosed alcoholic is given 1 million $ "here go fix the problem".

Incidentally modern Health Care began during 1960's (example-Heart disease). Not because the colleges created smarter individuals, but through individual development of technology.

These protests need to be looked upon as the cradle to our Republic. Europe has no mechanizm to fix problems.

Mr.Broder must be refering to the SEIUnoin thugs when using the phrase "playing with fire".
Even Hillary(I am the Secretary of State)Clinton says that it is our duty as Americans to rise up and challenge our elected officials when we disagree with their actions. Remember?

Broder is just as out of touch as the Dems. in Congress. Polls are showing overwhelmingly that Americans are against this radical overhaul of the US health care system. Americans do not trust Congress as their approval ratings show.
This is a typical reaction of the left, blame the opponents of the bill, not the misguided authors of the bill.
This op-ed piece is a rambling, rediculous attempt to prop up this tanking administration and their failing policies.

Unfortunately, Mr. Broder, the protesters would not be able to understand your warning, as you used too many "big words" which are difficult for people with the collective IQ of a sack of mealworm-ridden potatoes to understand.

The idiot politicians including Obama, who are pushing this insane bill are the ones getting burned.
The American voters are speaking now, and there will be BIG changes in the 2010 elections.

Well, as has been posted before on these boards, the best course for the Republicans is to simply stand aside and let Obama and the liberals self-destruct under their own practices and policies. It won't be the Republicans that beat them in 2010... it will be themselves, once people know who they really are.

Everything the "we hate you" crowd claims about the health care proposals is a lie - and there's no point in trying to engage in honest discussions with those who tell lies and scream.

Without calling them "Neo-German Socialist Party" members - it is fair and correct to note that screaming down opponents and smashing store windows - like protesters at WTO summits do - in an attempt to drown out honest discussion and intimidate was the method that a fellow named Adolf used to gain power.

Pass a bill that is American - that is, it will encourage competition with the bloated HMO's and pharmaceutical companies. Competition and capitalism have been replaced by monopolies and companies who pay their CEO's millions in salaries in bonuses.

Unfortunately Samantha is right, many of these rude and ill mannered people are stupid. I have seen Arlen Spector asked if he "read the Koran", posters of Obama with a hitler moustache, people talking about death panels and euthanasia for senior citizens.

Costs are a genuine issue but the fact of the matter is that these ignorant people are being directed to the meetings and given talking (yelling) points by organizations like FreedomWorks (Dick Armey's drug company funded lobbying group) and the same hypocrites behind the laughable teabag parties. I'm not saying that their anger or concern isn't genuine. I am saying the behavior is the result of ignorance and an unwillingness to accept that the policies put forward by conservatives since Reagan have been proven wrong.
