Those writing from the US - I really would not play the intelligence card against the British-not smart in the first instance, just look at your history or lack of it!
Secondly I think it is appauling that you Sellers (although highly unlikely you have anything to do with this directly)should be allowed to write on such websites as this- not only does it make a further mockery of the justice system in Columbus that an arresting officer is allowed to enter a forum condemning the man, but you are also speaking an awful lot trash. You claim that you are a perfectly normal policing officer, and yet you condemn people 'to Hell' on a written disagreement! Again really showing that Columbus and judicinal memebers (at least you sir) have no idea about a fair trial.

I am from Columbus and believe I read "The Big Eddy Club" with an open mind. I find the prejudice remarks regarding "Southerners" quite ironic from those pro-Mr. Gary supporters. They are accusing "us" of the very thing of which they are guilty. I admit, I became convinced by Mr. Rose, the author, despite all I knew and had read before, until the last few chapters, when I believe his case disintegrated. One of my issues with his story is he handled the fact that the police did take into custody and investigated on more than one occasion sons of some of the most "prominent white families" dismissively. I am now convinced that Mr. Rose's sole objective of the book was to free Mr. Gary in a sort of jury nullification act. I briefly corresponded with Mr. Rose after reading his book and found he was not very open minded as soon as Mr. Gary's DNA was positively identified with another murder for which Mr. Gary blamed another friend. Too bad, Mr. Rose is a very talented convincing writer and had he approached the book from the prospective of exposing other possible suspects rather than just exposing the underbelly of racial justice or the lack thereof, it would have been exposed; and others less inclined may have be less inclined to attack the book and Mr. Rose's credibility. With the DNA tests though, it has made much of this moot.

No matter what you can not expect justice to come to a prominent family in Columbus Georgia.

This city is controlled by a group of families and they keep it under tight lock and key, they appease the poor south part of the city with trivial offerings but keep their power on the boards of the city with coercion, bribery, intimidation, greed and so on.

It will always be this way until someone some day comes in with enough money and is fearless to expose them.

I always thought carlton gary murdered these women, but kept an open mind. Now that we all know he did murder a female in new york,i now believe he is the columbus strangler. yes, david rose has talent, but maybe he show stay in the uk.i'm so tired of the people of uk telling us how wrong our laws are. the women of uk come to the states and fall in love with men on death row all the time---it's seems to me there's a problem in the uk.i've met some of these women and i can't understand why they come to death row to find a man. what's wrong with the men in the uk?? I would love to hear how david rose feels about the murder in new york that his friend committed and by the way david should be locked up for sneaking out with carlton's DNA,,never mind that---it BACK FIRED on him,that's how he was linked to the murder.. Other countries should stay out of OUR country if all they want to do is critize us. We have Our law,you have your law. As simply as that. As for Mr. David Rose I believe he has tucked his tail on the Carlton Gary's stories. What does he have to say now about his friend??? I believe Mr. rose may be a little embarassed. After he sneaks DNA out of the prison at hopes to prove a point for himself,instead it made an ass out of him.. Thank You Mr. Rose for doing that, now a family can finally rest knowing who killed their loved one.
I guess when you can make a dollar off of people you do all you can,next time you be open minded because you never know who's telling you the truth.You knew Mr. Gary has been was a liar and con artist and you still stayed front and center with him.. How do you feel about him now???

If this be the case, I would like to point out that this is an open debate, for any man no matter what country they reside in. I do not disagree with your laws, merely the way in which they are sometimes used and the members of the judicinal system.

We should have extended Manifest Destiny to the North Pole and South America and let those ingrate limies speak German in WW I or even WW II. America would have sustained it by just beating Japan, then let Russia and Germany destroy each other after they pummeled the rest of Europe.

It is so amazing that some of you can get so far off the subject matter of this post.

The point is that Mr. Rose, and all of Carlton Gary's defenders all have a whole lot of egg on their faces now. DNA evidence now shows 100% that he raped and murdered a woman in New York state. I read The Big Eddy Club very soon after moving to Columbus with an open mind, but I was shocked at how one- sided and biased the reporting was. Nothing but endless vignettes about lynchings that took place over 100 years ago,(Michael- Moorish innuendo and guilt- by association.) It seems Mr. Rose's primary argument to exonerate Gary was that he was something of a "ladies man," and, after all what would a "ladies man" need to rape a bunch of old women. This is the thinnest argument imaginable, and it ignores the fact, acknowledged by sociologists the world over, that rape is not about sex.

Furthermore, I am also disturbed to read all of this America- bashing by our British cousins on here. Yes, we have racial problems in America. But I would venture to say that you Brits have plenty of racial problems of your own, without having to worry about ours. What about the race riots in Oldham? The sectarian violence in Northern Ireland? Ever read "There Aint No Black in the Union Jack"? It's a good book.

And if you Brits want to talk about injustice here in the US, fine, lets talk about it. Since you think we Americans have a monopoly on injustice, lets sit down and have a talk with the Guilford Four, or the Birmingham Six. Lets ask them about justice in the UK. I'm rather interested in hearing what they have to say.

And one more thing, I would venture to say that all of you calling southerners "Confederate flag waving kkk racists, etc.," but in the same breath you decry prejudice and stereotyping? Excuse me, but labeling someone a "Rebel- flag waving racist" solely because of the region where they preside is the definition of ignorance, intolerance, prejudice, and stereotyping on your part. Talk about irony. The fact that you do it simply because that person just so happens to disagree with you is even more revolting.

There are far more Black racists than white racist in Columbus Georgia. Just look at the City Manager, and the city Council it has plenty of people who hate and discriminates against whites.

No one is afraid of a retrial, But lets be realistic, more than 30 years ago most witnesses or either dead or no longer available. Why retrial when he was convicted.

He should have been executed years ago.
