I’m writing this letter today to let you know how unhappy I am with American Home Shield services & inform you my 2 of my appliance repairs so far have taken 2 MONTHS to be resolved.
Let's go back to April & my dish washer disaster that took your people 2 MONTHS and 6 trips to my home to repair. My 5 year old probably could have done a better job on this one. Trip 1 – diagnose problem & order parts. Trip 2 – ooops! Wrong part. Trip 3 – Need “special” screw not included in the new part box. Trip 4- was not avail. Trip 5 –“Didn’t I leave the screw at your house?????” Have to reorder screw. Trip 6 – fixed.
Back to present day & the 1 1/2 MONTHS I have been without my washing machine. It goes back to the inexperience of the young repair person (so I'm told) that incorrectly diagnosed my problem TWICE. So now I've had to pay for 2 service calls ~ 1st for weird noise, 2nd for washroom full of smoke.
I called back in April/May for a weird noise coming from the agitation cycle. A very young Sears Rep came & said all is well. On August 12th I walk in to find my washroom full of smoke. Call AHS – it will take 10 days to get Sears here. Same young Sears Rep returns & after 1 hour on his phone tells me I need a new motor. He will have to order parts. Aug 28th Sears parts box arrives but it’s water filters?!?! Sears will rush ship my new motor but they cannot come out until Sept 10th to install them. On Monday Sept 10th a different Sears Rep shows at my home & says it’s not the motor, it’s the brake. Have to reorder more parts. Sears cannot return to my home to install these parts until Sept 20th ~ 1 ½ months after my initial call to AHS.
All along I have been in contact with AHS. One even hung when I said I had a problem saying there was a tornado warning in her building. No CS Rep wants to help. No one can do anything just repeatedly stating “AHS is commited to a 48 hour response” but nothing, nothing, NOTHING further. Well 2 month repair times should NOT be acceptable.

AHS SUCKS

American Home Shield absolutely sucks. What a rip off. When I bought my house, the sellers paid for the home warranty and I was forced to take the company of their choosing-AHS. I had to call them on three occasions. The first an air conditioner which took them almost 3 weeks to fix-thing Washington DC in June. The companies they use are most likely fronts for drug operations. All the technicians could barely speak English and were in a constant state of stupor. I have been dealing with a reimbursement issue for 8 months. The wait time for customer service averages 20 minutes and they do not return emails. I could go on, but I hope you get the point.

I called American Home Shield about a problem I was having with my toilet. It vibrated constantly after each flush. AHS sent out tech that reported that is was the pressure release valve ( this was diagnosed prior to him doing or looking at anything) and of course he quickly stated that it is not covered by the warranty. I was apprehensive about his diagnosis and told hime I would call him back for this 400 dollar repair. I got a second opinion from a plumbing company ant it wasn't the PRV, but instead the floater that lay inside the toilet itself. I costed $55 to repair and has worked fine since. Thanks for nothing again AHS.

I too have american homeshield and will tell anybody not to get them- ever see that commercial where the guy says it has to be a Ficus tree ? wll that is them, they go out and say - we do not cover it and slowly but surely every year they are deleting language from the contract, adding limits to their expenses and upping your premiums, you are better off putting the 65 per month into the repair kitty and do repairs out of that because they COVER nothing anyway and you can't question them, its just plain not covered even if their language does not say it is not covered THEY say it is not covered and thats that I am cancelling them today and i have two contracts with them - totally BOGUS - STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOMESHIELD EVERYONE

Heres the tale of a cook top repair in 2007 that rolled into 2008 for a technician to be located. Certified letters to the Chief Operating Officer of the Corporation were fruitless. However.. Hats Off to the customer reps. They have got to be the most creative bunch of folks around. First they pretend they can not reach the technician, then the technician is on vacation for two weeks, then the technician needs time to come back from vacation and return his calls, then and only then is it necessary for them to contact CONTRACTOR RELATIONS. Wow and imagine this..while the customer suffers through two major National Holidays...lets just keep throwing $100 their way (pay for taxes) on a $1500 replacement. Awe how sweet this tale will sound in court.

Just got off the phone with American Home Shield and my blood is boiling. After we bought our house, we purchased the all included plan that covers pre-existing conditions, code violations, install problems, the whole nine yards. Recently, we had a plumber upgrade a couple of faucets in our house for and when he took a look at the water heater he said that certain things were not up to code. So we called AHS. AHS sent their people and rejected this saying that it was a "visible" issue. I agree that code violations may be visible - BUT TO A TRAINED EYE - not to the common man. I can't believe this scam of a company is still in business. These people should stop abusing the "American" name.
I recently met an ex-AHS employee who told me that they train to decline issues at AHS. Their contractors get paid the service charge even for a decline which we as homeowners pay. So if the job is small that it can be done quickly they may do it. But if it takes any time at all their contractors will decline and move on to the next job TAKING THE MONEY. The guy who told me this said that they teach this in AHS and that he could not live off of what AHS paid these guys so he would "decline and quote independent".

The AHS home warranty is a joke. If the home warranty is offered just pocket the $400 do not take the warranty. I had a furnace go bad and they gave me the biggest line of crap. They said they have a contract with carrier and get qouted prices that no one else can get. They sent me $553 for a furnace if anyone can get one installed for even close to that let me know. This company sucks and so does everone that works for these rat MFers

AHS is a company managed by crooks. I had the contract for 5 years and never needed their service. This year I called them 3 times this year and the twice for Plumbing and once for something else. All the people they sent were great con-artists who just wanted to collect $55 and leave saying that it was a design issue. After this, I called a local plumber and explained the situation and he fixed all the problems for $50 and he did not charge for any parts as well. I am cancelling AHS contract immediately. I wish I had called AHS a few years ago. This is an organized rip-off. Any big repair, they will come up with a reason not to pay.

I urge any and all people reading this to stay away from AHS. Nothing is "covered" although they state that everything is. Don't waste your time or money on this company. I would rather pay twice as much to get something fixed than to ever deal with these folks again.

Add us to the list...this is day 4 of no a/c. The technician (from Florida a/c Experts) sent by AHS was here for 10 minutes and with his x-ray vision (no diagnostic equipment and did not remove the cover from the unit) determined that our coil was 60% clogged. He also wrote on the invoice that we had not had the unit serviced in 3 years..though the sellers had it serviced before we moved in and I told him I knew we had it done one other time since and had to check with my husband on the date. He made an easy $55 for doing nothing and I just cancelled my AHS policy which was up for renewal next week. I am still in a HOT house...in the 90's here and waiting for another technician to get here to find out what is really wrong with our a/c. AHS is a rip off!

To everyone saying "They say everything is covered!"
You're an adult, it's your responsibility to read the contract for a product you are purchasing. Just by looking at the website, it's easy to find a copy of this contract... which no I would not buy for myself but if I did I wouldn't complain that "everything is not covered".
For people who say their claim is denied... it's simple.. call and ask for another contractor... or ask for a 2nd opinion. You are doing business with a corporation that cannot stay in business if they are paying out for every claim made... this is common sense.
This is not necessarily a problem with AHS, this is a problem it sounds like with your local technicians.. and while it is AHS's responsibilty to have your appliances repaired.. it's your responsibility to read the contract and purchase at your own will... these warranties cost under $500/year and you expect them to be some kind of Home Owner's Insurance...
Again... you're doing business with a corporation that cannot stay in business by providing top notch support/service.. You're shooting your own selves in the foot and have been since the day you've purchased it.
Now, call back and cancel the contract and ask for a refund.

American Home Shield is terrible. They weren't always this bad, I had them in the 80's and highly recommended them. They have been terrible in these past few years and I would never recommend them again. I have a GE Profile Refrigerator that started icing up behind the produce drawer. This caused the defrost cycle to be on constantly thus not allowing the refrigerator to cool. The first time this happened was right before the 1 year warranty was up and GE repaired it and it worked fine for another thirteen months. Then I needed American Home Shield. From September 2007 until January they kept sending a company out to repair it--at least four times--each time the company did not have the part that they thought would solve the problem. I was only responsible for the service fee the one time. They took the plastic cover off by removing four screws and used a blow dryer to melt the ice as a stop gap measure that would keep the refrigerator working until they could get the part which was usually a couple of weeks.I believe one time was almost a month. I called the office and the tech there said a we could use the blow-dryer method while waiting for the "next" part. Finally in January they replaced what I believe they called the main board and everything was fine until now, May 23rd. American Home Shield first said the part was only warranteed for 90 days so I again had to pay the $60 service fee. I did. Then the new company technician noticed we had the cover off and I explained about what the other company told us to do and he told AHS and they are denying the charge and we have to pay almost $300. At one time I had Sears Home Warranty and while their service was excellent I thought I could save money with American Home Shield. I am definately going back to the Sears program!!

We provided this company's service to our daughter. We called repeatedly for repair on a much needed washing machine that was leaking. It took forever for someone to contact her and when they did a $60.00 service fee was collected and the repair was not properly done. We called the company to complain and request another service person. It was over one week before anyone contacted us ( as a aresult of repeated calls)I could never recommend this company. It's frustrating and costly to deal with them.

We have had similar incidents. We reported a gas leak...a GAS LEAK of all things. After weeks of trying to get someone to take responsibility and finally being told it WAS covered, AHS called and said it was NOT covered. AHS is an absolute rip off. The reason they said it was not covered was because they didn't cover VALVES. I could go on and on. If you buy AHS, you are throwing your money away.

What a suprise to find this when I googled "AHS Sucks". I have spent the last three weeks being the worlds largest a-hole to these people at AHS, and my repair problem goes back to last year. My thus far fictional lawyer has done a masterful job of getting things done towards my repair. My real lawyer may be interested to know that this problem is rather larger than I thought. From the postings I see this company is cheating people all over the country. I do believe I will post this to my realtor. Might be it is time to spread the word about this company to every one you know.

Wow! I wish I had read all of these comments prior to purchasing AHS! They are a total rip off. I have used their service twice in 4 years and both times have been totally disappointed. I will not renew with them. Has anyone had any luck with AHS?
