Once again, the street name is given for the guy who initially reported the suspicious activity. He was interviewed on television! His house was shown! These cartels -- gangs, organized crime, mobsters -- are populated by people who have people killed. It would be nice if news organizations would do some thinking for people who don't always think for themselves (and get caught up in the excitement of being on the news or quoted in the paper). Don't give the full name, shield the face, don't show the home. I know it's not the job of news organizations to protect newsmakers, but this is dangerous.

It's actually a shotgun slung across the officers back on the motorcycle, not a rifle, but whatever. Pretty cool photo non the less.

End the drug war, and move these gardens out of our parks and open space. There are better places to grow, and that don't fuel the economies of dangerous drug cartels.

Great... we spend all this money so we can kill a 20 year old. I hope you are proud Santa Clara.

I'd hate to be a Mexican gardener in that area. I mean a legitimate one. More poor writing skills: When local and state officers hiked into the camp early Thursday, they said they encountered three armed Hispanic men.
They didn't say it yesterday -- they said it when they hiked into the area. I guess they already knew.
We are still waiting to know if the decedent shot at officers. Hard to prove if he was shot in the back. Makes one curious, the story is so slow coming out.
It sounds like they think the other two are still hiding up there. I guess they have more beans and rice stashed.
Solar pumps -- good idea.

These guys are destroying our wild open spaces. They go to the most secluded aress, lots of times in our state and county parks, not at all caring about the environment. The chemicals they use are some of the worst around, probably stuff that is illegal here that they have to bring from Mexico.
This needs to be stopped!!!

More lies from Becky
|
Here we go again. Becky proven to be posting lies.
She told us last week that there's no proof that these cartels exist, and asked for evidence.
Seems to me there is plenty here. Multiple grow sights are being found that have similar makeup, setups, and supplies. Mexican Nationals are being seen, and in this case, apprehended.
Rich Camps, head of the South Bay Metro Task Force, a federally funded multi-agency drug task force, is saying that
"The number of plants eradicated statewide has been doubling each year"...."and 90 percent of that is directly related to Mexican drug-trafficking organizations."
Ummmm....Becky?

Residents complain about suspicious people and possible pot grows near their houses and complain to the cops. Cops investigate and find pot. Cops know that pot farmers in remote areas are usually armed. What do you want the cops to do, sit back and let these dangerous people do as they please. Good Job Santa Clara Sheriff's Office! For real. Thank You for risking your lives to protect us.

Why does the decedent have to shoot at officers first. This isn't a gentleman's duel. These are dangerous criminals that are armed. Three years ago a Fish & Game warden was shot just across the valley.

make me giggle wrote: i had to burst out laughing when i read the first sentence.did anyone else get a laugh out of it too? It's terrible writing -- like something from The Onion -- but the story isn't funny. These pot gardens really are done by organized crime. (It's easy to think of this as a sketch on Saturday Night Live, though.)

From the bags of beans and rice found in the camp to the type of fertilizer used on the plants.... OMG, that was the funniest line I've read in a long time. Now they are profiling pot busts!

hbd wrote: <quoted text> Three years ago a Fish & Game warden was shot just across the valley. Justified homicide. One of his race shot a DF&G man last year. I understand the attitude, also the law. As I said before, CAMP has admitted they take a few shots (into the brush) when they enter a pot garden. I happen to think that's unwarranted. But then again, I'm no cop.

Absolutely. There's a high probability that this is the Mexican Carte. For the naive, uninformed and the blind, they're now in many of our National Parks, for real (Yosemite, just for starters and that's been documented). And not just in this state, I have friends who were backpacking up in Oregon. They ran into whole band of these guys heavenly armed and almost got themselves killed. I know of others who had similar situation in other areas and other states. As someone who does a lot packing and mountaineering into our National Forests, I'm definitely concerned. More importantly, these guys are destroying a lot of land with chemicals used in cultivation, trash and such, not to mention the fire danger they pose. This is not a flight of imagination it's real.
