I was coming home at about 5:45 this evening and saw a fireball shooting across the sky at a downward arc.
Did anyone else see it? |

1 KCRA 3 News Large Light Seen In Sacramento Area Sky Light Seen Tuesday Afternoon POSTED: 6:44 pm PST November 18, 2008 UPDATED: 6:53 pm PST November 18, 2008 Email Story Print Story SACRAMENTO, Calif.-- People from Lincoln down to Modesto have reported seeing a large colorful bright light Tuesday afternoon. Some people said the light was traveling from east to west and that it was greenish blue. KCRA 3 made calls to Beale and Vandenberg Air Force bases and the North American Aerospace Defense Command but no contacted agency has claimed launching or detecting anything unusual. An e-mailer wrote in to KCRA.com claiming to see "a very large meteor streak across the sky at about 5:30 p.m." that broke into three or four pieces and lasted for 5 to 6 seconds. Yes, I saw it also as I was driving home. I live in Pittsburg (Bay area). |

I have been on the computer all evening looking for ANY news about the fireball that I saw around 5:30 pm.
I live in the Bay Area (Pittsburg). I was driving home and waiting for the signal to change. I just happened to look up when I saw it streaking across the sky. It was traveling east to west. It was big and very bright, and had a long tail. It also had some green in it. If you saw it as well - please respond. |

Hi,
I didn't personally see it, but my husband tells me that he saw military helicopters heading that way. You could hear them from our home in Sunnyvale. I've been searching the web as well, and haven't been able to find anything, not even in the news tonight... |

I saw it too. I was in Pleasanton driving home around 5:30. I looked up and saw something shooting across the sky... from east to west... looked like a huge fireball with bright long tail... it kinda just faded and disappeared.

I saw it too. I was driving home and over the bridge on Sunrise, I looked up and thought it was firworks or a shooting star, but had never seen a shooting star that close. It was blue with a yellow tail, it was so close and looked like it landed/fell in Carmichael. Did not last but a few seconds.

turns out that post from last night about the Perseid meteor shower was old..So nothing was scheduled to happen last night. This was a true oddity.

I saw this thing going down!
I was in South Tracy looking Northwest. I thought it was an aircraft in trouble or a meteor...I am so glad I wasn't the only one! |

On Monday night I saw a couple of bright shooting stars...which, usually, I see one every once-in-awhile. Definitely, not two within a few minutes of each other. Don't know if there's any relation to the sightings on Tuesday night... maybe a Death Star blew away another planet :p

I saw it on my way home from work too. I was traveling north on Hwy 29 in Lower Lake. IT WAS HUGE! Very bright, lasted longer than probably any shooting star I've ever seen before.
