I purchased a Vanilla Visa Gift Card for someone in early November but they have never been able to use the card. It has been declined everytime they've attempted to use. I have called Vanilla Visa customer service over and over and each time they have said that they have corrected the problem only to have the card denied again and again. This problem is now over a month old. Checking the account on the website shows that the account is has no charges and the money is available and even customer service verifies this. But still the card is denied each time an attempt is made to use it.
BE WARNED!!!!!
DO NOT PURCHASE VANILLA VISA GIFT CARDS!!!!

when you have a bank issue gift card tht has a crdt card logo u want to make sure tht u are using it for the amount tht if ur purchase is over the amount u pay the difference first and then used the prepaid gift card just like if u are in a restaurant, hotel or salon their processor will hit the card for 20% extra regardless wether u leave the tip or not is for them to assure tht u have enough funds and the card doesnt go into the negative is all in the terms and conditions of the card it guides u on how to use the card..

I wont ever purchase a vanilla visa card again! I used it for a good part of my day and when the balance got low all of my purhcases began being declined, the website as well as customer service reps are unavailable, DO NOT PURCHASE THESE CARDS!!!!

i just got one for a gift, and how i turned red, when the card kept saying declined. an no you cant get ahold of customer service.
good thing my sister kept the receipt. someone should turn this company in.

I purchased a visa gift card for my son this Christmas and when we used it it says declined and when i called costumer service it says that the card has been refunded on dec 8 on a diffrent name .how could that happen when i just purchased it on the 23rd.they cant give me answers and they cant help and asked me to go to the store where i purchased it.Dont ever buy this card its a waste of time and money.

People need to learn how to use a bank issued giftcard. For one the card is not meant to be spent for more than the value. Pay whatever is over on your transaction. If people would stop being so damn lazy and learn math and how to use a card, you would have no problem. I've called Customer service plenty of times and they've assisted me very good. People need to grow up, learn how to use a bank issued gift card and quit posting crap online. Maybe go back to highschool??

You're Nuts Vanilla. I sure know how to use it. I have had the card for months, tried to use it several times already and every time it has been declined. None of the attempted charges were even close to the amount I have left on the card. The fact that so many people are experiencing the same problem with NO help or even access to customer service says it all. Someone should investigate this company.

I'd just like to get the money I spent for the Vanilla Visa Gift card back. I gave it as a gift and the giftee has not been able to make one single purchase with it! The account still has every dollar I spent on it in the account but the card is useless! Vanilla Gift Card customer service is worthless! DO NOT BUY A VANILLA VISA GIFT CARD!!!!!

I also had a Vanilla Gift Card that did not work. It was a real nightmare! It took two months and a few dozen phone calls to get the card to work and not be rejected. This company id horrible!

I have the card in my possession. It's been in my wallet for 2 months (I forgot about it). I called to check the balance because I know there's bs fees that are deducted if the card isn't used. When I called, they said it was in valid and that number didn't exist. Online, when I tried to get the balance again, they said the card was issued a replacement but had $150 on the card (first off, not possible, it's a $50 card). I never ordered a replacement! After 6 emails to the company (because you can't get a rep on the phone) they said to call the number and press 4 to speak to someone. There's not an option to press 4! Another email told me to hit "#0" 3 times and THEN press 4. That finally worked. I was put on hold for 20 minutes by a very rude woman named Jennifer. After 45 minutes of arguing on the phone with Jennifer and her supervisor that refused to speak to me directly, they said someone with a different birthday than what's on my account ordered a replacement. They can't help me because my birthday doesn't match the one of the reissued card. EVEN THO I HAVE THE DEBIT CARD PRINT OUT from the gift giver to show they purchased it, they cannot help me. So, whomever ordered this replacement card gets to activate it and use it. And if this replacement card was wrongly ordered, and noone ever activates it, I still cannot use the card I have in my possession. It's null and void, and I'm out $50 and hours of wasted time. I hope a class action lawsuit gets filed!

My daughter was given a Vanilla Gift Card as a thank you gift. One hour later she tried to use it to buy petrol. It was declined. I refuse to contact a helpline that charges 1 per minute so I contacted the seller (Sainsburys supermarket) to complain. They were less than helpful. I am going to demand a full refund and suggest that they discontinue selling this useless card. I wish I had visited this website before purchase but I suppose you live and learn!

Yesterday I purchased a Vanilla Visa to send to my brother. I took it out of the bulky packing to pop it into the card and just happened to decide to call to confirm the balance. "Invalid Card." So I assumed it would take time to activate. I logged into the website and was given the same error message.

I called the company, who told me that the card was improperly activated. I returned to Walgreen's where the card was purchased, and was told that because I was given a confirmation receipt, that the card was indeed activated and that from there standpoint, there was no next actionable step.

BACK on the phone with Vanilla Visa. By now, I have grown concerned that the card inside the package may not have matched the information on the cardboard packaging. I tried bringing this to the attention of the customer service representative that I was speaking with who told me that they could do NOTHING with anything except for the card number, and that number was invalid.

By now, I am afraid that the activation number per my receipt is linked to another account. I am also afraid that because of their inaction, that the money will be spent by the time they are willing to investigate this. Furious, I called back, AGAIN. I was receiving the same runaround when I asked the rep for her ID. Her name was 'Tracy' and she begrudgingly gave me her id- 5148. I said "I paid you 100 dollars and a service fee to provide me with a preloaded card. This has not happened. What is my next step?" She mumbled a bit, and started on about going back to the retailer, and finally I said "They are unable to help me further. This is a Vanilla Visa problem. WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP!?" She finally initiated a ticket number and I am to fax in my receipt for an investigation which 'may' result in my receiving a refund.

I understand that people in this world will try anything for a free buck. HOWEVER, if Vanilla Visa is willing to take 100 dollars and a service fee from me, they need to have a course of action when that 100 dollars does not make it to it's destination. The people at Walgreen's were extremely helpful and actually regretted not having further action available. Vanilla Visa has been nothing but rude, aggressive and only marginally competent. Believe me, I am NOT going to stop here. I will follow this through as far as it takes on principle, this is simply not okay. Meanwhile, I will spread the word as quickly as possible!!!

All of you are complaining about this card...just wow. Sure it is declined by some things, because afterall, IT ISNT A REAL DEBIT CARD. You can't treat a "Gift Card" like a real debit card, and most companies, brands, shops, etc. still will recognize it as a gift card. What I found out is possible it to use the card on a paypal account. Because you can go online to check your balance, you can activate the card onto a paypal account, and then simply buy things online with paypal using the money in your card. Simple.
