“A good professor is a good professor," Charles Parrish added.“Socrates sat under trees and didn't have PowerPoint.”

I like this line but guess what if Socrates had Power Point he would have loved it.

I studied in a classroom with slate board and chalk! There were no technical issues or power failure errors or rebooting or blown fuses or software bugs.... plain and simple learning and me and my generation turned up just fine! The more I see the youngins use calculators to multiply 2 digit number I wonder if they are better off or getting dumber.

I think this is good in some ways. I think technology can be very distracting and lead to short attention spans and a deemphasizing of actual learning.

Students were being educated well long before the advent of modern technology. I see no reason to upend the curriculum and teacher-student relationship to accommodate unproved and untested teaching methods, simply because the technology is there.

I tend to agree. Technology can be great in many ways, but only when it doesn't attempt to replace actual teaching

PowerPoint is a crutch and plopping kids in front of computers all day should be criminalized. A majority of adults work in front of computers all day, sitting on their butts, developing all kinds of joint and eye problems. Do you want your kid to adopt that lifestyle in grade 1? Kids should be actively learning in a "real" environment, not a virtual one.

Sure, but considering that technology is taking ocuppying a larger and larger niche in everyone's lives with each year that passes, when these kids are actually adults their lives will be much more "virtual," in a way, than ours are now.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Gemini

Beware of taking on too much because it will be an effort to get through it all. You might even have to give up the unequal struggle, which won't do much for your ego or your reputation. Be especially careful about this if you're at work because a certain person may try to take advantage of what they see as your weakness or failure to deliver the goods.
