Why did the city close the skate park? where are these kids supposed to skate? why spend the money to build it if they aren't going to let them use it? how stupid is this town?

because this area of the country is primarily run by backwards ass rednecks and old people with little to no understanding of the modern outside world. they still live back in the days when teenagers listen to elvis and drive up to makeout point to hold hands and the really rebelious ones wear black leather jackets and work on cars. it is a sad state of affairs. skateboarding is something they dont understand so it is also something they dont allow. that is about as cut and dried as it gets

maybe some sort of protest is in order? why build it if they won't let the kids use it? waste of my tax dollars now that its not being used. its stupid. this city needs someone who can and will run things thats will benefit everyone not just himself or his friends and family. maybe the kids could skate at the new city hall building since they won't let them use the skate park?

i would run for office if anyone would vote for me. i could make some pretty amazing changes and i have no interest in money being a philanthropist. i just wanna see a better world and i wanna see kids have good safe hobbies that will keep them off drugs and out of trouble.

I heard that the people that skated there were letting cows out of the field right next to the skate park. (Wow, we have such a little hick town. Lol.)

hahaha amazing. that makes me happy. but then isnt it plainly discrimination against skaters to say that they cause trouble and the soccer players and joggers and everyone else that goes there dont? how do they know it was a skater who did it? even if they do why does ONE skater cause them to close it to all skaters? it doesnt make sense to me

Well, I guess the city people are like my English teacher, they aren't really sure who did it so they punish all of them. I think it's really pointless to have it there at all if they can't use it, but honestly the skaters don't care. It's not like that fence is secured to the concrete.. it folds under enough for them to get in if they really want to.. PLUS there's a small group that had Bible study there every week, and now we've had to move to the gazebo. God's word was getting spread, and now that doesn't happen. Now they have to worry about all these skaters running around the city, as well. It causes more stress to close it than to leave it open in my opinion.

yeah some very good points there. just sucks that local governments can so openly persecute people for their hobbies and interests especially ones that dont involve drugs or anything. just sucks man.

i am adult and i support the skaters. I know several of the skate kids and they are very good kids. I wish that people will leave them alone and not look on the outside but look on the inside and see them for who they are.

yeah but most of them are nothing but punks..their parents don't care what they do, and for a bunch of 11 and 12 year olds to be hangin out there, making out and God knows what all is CRAZY and in my opinion it's nothing but BAD PARENTING!!!!! Some of these parents need to GROW UP and stop trying to relive their youth through their kids lives, you are an adult start acting like one and take responsibility for your kids actions.

i am not a skater...actually im not even from harrogate. i am 25 with a wife and kid on the way. i have just been the victim of unfair profiling, labeling and oppression from ignorant hicks like "momma" up there^ for so long i will step in and say something on anyones behalf that feels the same. i think this place needs a massive change shoved up its backside whether the people like it or not. if "momma" wants to see kids "making out and God knows what else" then she should take a look around her...sports teams...school...even churches in many cases. just because a kid wears a black t-shirt and takes part in something unconventional does not make the kid bad nor does it mean they are involved in anything wrong. however the ILL RECEIPT OF THINGS PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND WILL ONLY EVER MAKE THINGS WORSE. kids dont label themselves and they dont ask to be labeled, but when you decide that every kid on a skateboard with green hair wearing baggy pants or skinny jeans is a dope head troublemaker then you are only speaking it into existence. leave the kids alone and let them skate.

I couldn't agree with you more. My child is an 11 year old skater and he is not in any kind of trouble. In fact I couldn't ask for a better child. Just because he likes to skate and chooses to wear skate clothes does not mean he needs to be labeled as a trouble maker. And, furthermore I am with my child every time he goes to skate and I have met many of the skater kids they are a good group of kids and I don't think that "momma" has the right to judge anyones parenting. Sounds to me like she don't know what shes talking about and maybe she's just trying to place blame on others for her bad parenting. Try looking in the mirror before you start labeling people "momma" and if you don't know what your talking about stay out of this conversation!

absolutely...i believe the Holy Bible puts it as such-"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."--in fact that is exactly what it says in Mat. 7:5. it is no less a sin to unjustly judge someone that it is to vandalize the park...and i have yet to hear any real proof that it was a skater kid who did that...and even if it was i STILL say ban THAT kid from the park and let the rest do their thing. in the very least, making an example of the one who did it might stop others from causing future problems if they were even gonna

I call them as I see them and that is what I see BAD PARENTS, and for the ignorant hick comment I am not the one letting my kids do whatever the HELL they want, and you are the ignorant hicks for allowing your children to make out at 11 and 12 years old, that is why there is so many teen pregnancies. I am a damn good mom, you would NEVER see my children dressing in that fashion, and acting like a bunch of punks, I am glad they closed that park if those bunch of punks keep disrespecting other people's property the way they do, do you know how much damage it could cause if those cows were to get out and make it to the highway, WAKE UP you idiots!!! And if you actually go and stay at the park with your kids than your the first and I say to you why do you allow them to do the things they do if you are there and are a grown up-act like one tell them when they are doing something wrong, not just OH it's okay they are a good group of kids, if they were good kids they wouldn't be messing with property that does not belong to them and they would dress and act like normal good kids and be a productive part of society instead of trouble makers...now take that to the bank you ignorant parents who do bad parenting instead of actually teaching your kids right from wrong. Truth hurts don't it honey!!!!

this is about the response i would expect from someone like u. i never said that i would let an 11 or 12 year old go make out in the park no do just whatever they want. seems to me that ur missing the whole point and that is sad. the point i am making is this--u dont understand that sub-culture...or even know what a sub-culture is i'd wager. from the way u put things it seems that u believe the clothes these kids wear somehow have an effect on their actions. furthermore u are lumping them all into one category of "bad kid" assuming that 100% of kids that go there will damage property. i dont think u have even read the comments that skater mom and i have made. we arent giving kids the green light to vandalize property or do drugs...quite the contrary in fact. all i am advocating is open mindedness to their hobby and recognition that not ALL skater kids are bad. in fact most arent. just like athletes, band kids, factory workers, college professors, or any other generality u wanna consider--there are both good and bad. some of them will do drugs, fight, raise hell etc...some will simply pursue their hobby without bothering anyone. the problem comes when some idiot like u comes along and pisses them off. that is to be expected tho...kids are people just like adults. all i will say on the matter is that when my kid is old enough...if he or she decides to get into skateboarding i will buy the first board for him/her and go to the park with him/her to make sure no narrow minded fools give them any crap about what theyre doing. my kids will be raised better than to destroy property as i was raised better than to and as most kids i believe are. u cant throw a whole bushel out over one rotten apple.

You are such a dumbass, when did I ever say anything about them doing drugs-you are the one putting these skater kids into that category, so what does that say about you, lol. As I stated before MOST of these kids ARE troublemakers, proof being they shut down the park because they were damaging and trespassing on property that does NOT belong to them or their family. Narrow minded my ass, I call them as I see them and you are the narrow minded, I would DARE you to say something to me for calling out a kid who is destroying property that someone has worked hard all their life for, cause believe me your kids would see you get more than an ass whooping, that being said, I raise my kids to be respectful young people to others and their property (if something doesn't belong to you don't touch it) and when they grow up they will be a productive member of society not some slacker who goes around town dressed in clothes that are about falling off of them, trespassing on private property where they can just skate around on a stupid toy. Those punk kids knew what they were doing when they opened the fence, if not they need to be in SCHOOL where they can learn instead of at a skate park, don't you think.

my kid is a skater and he had nothing to do with opening ve fence. from what i've heard its all been traced back to the basketball courts. some of those kids playing basket ball opened it and just because the skate kids dress differently they got blamed. i think its a shame that people can be so marrow minded. you need to try to talk with some of the skaters their intelligence will open your eyes. all the guys that i know down there are really nice CHRISTIAN church going boys. take off the blinders and a whole new world filled with different personalities interests and opinions and possibly friendships that will reward you and last a life time could be yours. be careful when judging. . . you may be judged next. sincerely, A Mom who tries show ALL kids a little love and respect.
