1 The 2 casinos where I am are hurting, along with everybody else in the area. They pay the state 25% of their slot revenues every month and are now the states biggest employers. In typical gov't. fashion our state is looking for new creative ways to tax the 2 tribes. |

Think of all the downrown merchants
who had to move out because Peters, who "owns" Santa Fe, hiked their rent. Peter's response: "Bah, humbug!" |

No sympathy whatsoever for Peters.
But after the methodical genocide and greedy (land grab) oppression in all forms by the USA, the indigenous Native Americans deserve all reasonable opportunities to recover and redirect their nations. If some white folks cannot restrain their quest for big winning at a casino, it is just that same greed boomeranging back. |

Native Justice you are right greed is not good for anyone, native or non native. I myself go to the casino for crab legs and win sometimes too. Yes the Native Americans were taken, I just think they deserve more economic statue then gambling on peoples weaknesses. Many casinos are full of native Americans also playing to win and loose just like there fellow non native. I myself think under a 14th Amendment argument that anyone should be able to open a casino native or non-native.
I want a casino too. But if I had my way, the casino would be exclusive for all people's education and health services native and non native. As for a casino in Southern New Mexico, why cant the grant lands of Southern New Mexico have their own casino, who's communty's also should carry with it such standing as granted to the American Pueblos under the same body of law, the HidalgoTreaty of 1848. |

Your comment "trying to take badly needed funds away" is a joke. I cant stand people like you thinking you are the keeper of all. It is NOT YOUR obligation to guide people in their spending habits. Maybe YOU can't control your own spending but there are many that can. I do not drink, I do not go to movies, and I do not take regular vacations. My entertainment is at the casino 2 or 3 nights a week. As an adult, I know how much I can spend while there. Either in a meal or in a slot machine. I don't need you generalizing about the casino trying to take my badly needed money away. We are all individually responsible for our own financial success. |

So explain to me how it would benfit Mr. Peters to have his buildings sit vacant? |

1 Well then do not include yourself in the generalisation but do not pretend that gambling is a social Ill and that it does not have a direct co relation poverty. Because it does. I'm sure there anre many responsable gamblers like you, usually they can afford to loose money, most cannot and continue to gamble and you and I pick up the tab when they cannot afford food, heat and medical treatment. |

Tell that to someone who works at the casino and counts on that income to pay their bills and keep food on the table. The pueblo's here arent reservations. They own their own land in fee simple. |

1 Many casino's pay the state tax (16%) average per casino, Federal tax gets THEIR cut from the winnings and Employee paychecks too. And concerning about WHO is employed at those casino's, after counting heads at many of the casino's around ABQ and Santa Fe, MY estimate would be (70%) Non-Indian and (30%) Tribal Members... That don't seem RIGHT (in a Catholic OR Christian sense, now does it? Seems to ME, that the Non-Indians benefit the most from that type of business. I'm surprised that the NON-INDIANs didn't get PROSTITUTION legal in those places by now. LMAO!! Anyway, ya DORK of a dude, did YOU ever realize that all that Casino style GAMBLING, is a WHITE MAN thing... SHEEESH! As for the WATER issue, SORRY ABOUT THAT!! The Pueblo and Navajo tribes are always fighting for THEIR water rights.. I'll be checking back on this... :P
