We need a union

United States

#1 Sep 17, 2012
CoLinx is a crooked place, it is controlled like a monarchy. If you're great at kissing ass you'll have no trouble climbing the ladder. Our pay is low, our benefits are poor, yet they expect us to have such a devotion to them. I can barely bring myself to walk in there anymore. They don't pay enough for one person to survive without getting money from the government. I get $400 a year for dental coverage! What the fu˘k is that supposed to do!? We need a union! How are we supposed to provide for ourselves on $11-$13 an hour!? I'm single and cant do it so I really feel for you with kids.

It beats a lot of the alternatives around here, and some of the benefits aren't that bad. I do agree that $400 per person a year is extremely low for combined dental AND vision coverage (with, of course,$75 deductible), but as long as Crossville has a Chamber Of Commerce to block higher paying companies from moving in, its the best you'll get in town. I've heard rumors that Colinx controls the Chamber Of Commerce, but I don't know for sure first hand.

Either way, it beats jobs that work with the public like retail and restaurants. At least in a setting like that you can tell the idiots what they are instead of biting your tongue until your brain explodes.

If you're single, I would recommend moving out of Crossville if you can. When you're by yourself its a lot easier to uproot and go where the jobs are than it is if you get married and start a family here first.
not so bad

$11 to $13 an hour is actually not bad pay for this area. I make around that and am single and while I'm not rolling in it, I do OK. You just have to budget and be careful with your pennies, like anyone else.

Heaven forbid you "work" to earn your money. CoLinx is one of the higher paying jobs in Crossville. Get over it or find another place to work. There are a few open street corners...

It is bad when the average worker brings home less than $30,000 a year and the big dogs bring in about $300,000. The supervisors work hard and barely make more than the average employee unless they have an in with the big dogs amd they make more. BIG DOGS are the ones behind the desks in the big office.

What do you do with your money? Blow it all on pills and beer? Your not forced to be there. Why dont you just quit and work at Burger King and see how they treat you. Do you even know what a Union is all about? It's not what your thinking.

It's not about "working." It's about dedicating my service to a company that doesn't give a shit. If you think $11 an hour is good money then I feel sorry for you.

Haha, I find it amusing how you can interpret so much about my personal life based off of what I said. Your just so intelligent! Have you ever been part of a union? I have, and I know for a fact if CoLinx had one, the employees there would be a lot better off. How many happy faces have you seen in that building? I know there aren't many, but you glhave to pay your bills, and that's the ONLY reason I still work there. I won't be there much longer though, I have something good lined up.

I never stated anything about your personal life, I questioned it. Being I work for GM, I might know a thing or two about unions. I pay my dues.

You try to bring in a union. Colinx will go overseas so fast, you will have more to worry about than $400 dental coverage.

Colinx might go out of business, but it wouldn't have any reason to go overseas. Its a warehouse; they don't actually make anything where overseas labor would be cheaper. It would be like moving your local post office overseas; it just wouldn't make any sense.

Good, then maybe some REAL companies will come to this town. I couldn't care less about that place. I understand that the times are hard and people just want to pay their bills, but when did Americans give up on their dreams, and just settle for bullshˇt? People got to fight for what they believe, quit conforming because its easy.

Colinx isn't such a bad place to work, there is definitely worse around here. I worked there for six years and left for what I thought was a better opportunity. Let me tell you, I would go back in a heartbeat. Yes, there is some buttkissing going on there but you know what, most of those buttkissers never make it long. Just look at how many of the favorites rose and fell and what a short time it took. Like I said, I would go back if I could; $14.50/hr was good money for work around here.
A union isn't going to do squat for anyone working there either, just bring trouble and loss of jobs. This is another subject in which I regret having any dealing with. I never tried to bring a union in there but was part of trying to gain better rights and pay with a union at my last employer. Boy did that blow up in my face. I thought I was doing right and trying to bring something better to my job and fellow co-workers, it's hard to tell what is good and bad though when you have union reps who will tell you anything to get you to further their cause. And they don't have much to lose, not like you who is putting your job on the line. A union is not the answer for Colinx.
Their health insurance is what makes the pay seem so low. If Colinx made a deal with CMC or another local health provider like Cookeville Regional for in network services at a discount and stopped paying for that big city Knoxville insurance rep who comes every year (in her big Hummer and rank perfume) to raise your insurance premiums, then maybe people would have a little more paycheck in their pocket and quit complaining about the company. Of course that would require a competent HR staff, something Colinx lacks. That is really the only complaint I have about that place.
