I heard that 2 families bought the stores somebody said they were from India or someplace like that.

Nancy,
Not sure I understand your question... I guess I should ask for your definition of "American" first. For example, The BP gas station is owned by "Americans" that have Indian (from India, the country) heritage, same is the case with the old Shell gas station infront of Walmart. So is you question based on the "ethnic appereance" of the owner or the "actual" nationality of the owner? Or is your question rooted in a Citizen Ship Type / Status? |

Wow, I don’t think there is enough room in this forum to reply to the comment made by 'Why not'.
So when you say "as we watch tv and now see there are more spanish people in America than white people, we need not show that we would like some of our business to stay American owned". So you are implying that only "white people" are American? I'm having a hard time understanding the line "we need not show that we would like some of our business to stay American owned" did you mean to type "we need "to" show that we would like some of our business to stay American owned". If that was the case, you do understand that not all "Americans" belong to the same ethnic group correct? All Americans (with the exception of Native Americans) have roots outside of the continental United States. Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Australia, etc., have all contributed to the multifacetic quilt that we call America. I invite you to read some of the names of the “Americans” who I served with who are honored on the Vietnam Veteran Memorial (The Wall), who died protecting the freedom that we all enjoy in this country. You will be amazed to find names rooted in other countries such as: - RODRIGUEZ PEDRO J CAMACHO (http://thewall-usa.com/info.asp... ) - DOUGLAS KAMKEE CHUNG (http://thewall-usa.com/info.asp... ) - Sijan, Lance P (http://thewall-usa.com/moh/moh.asp ) - Karopczyc, Stephan E.(http://thewall-usa.com/moh/moh.asp ) - Santiago-Colon, Hector (http://thewall-usa.com/moh/moh.asp ) So, I guess, in closing I would like to ask you,“Why not”, in your opinion who is an “American” that will satisfy your requirement of business ownership? |

come on people, lets face it america is a stew pot with all kinds of ingredients thrown in the pot. we have to live i=with it but shouldnt they learn our language iinstead of us learning theirs after alll they came here not the other way around. I dont believe in mistreating anyone but come on speak our language so we can understand them.

Animal Lover, I agree with the language issue, but let’s not lose track of the real argument here. Language was not the center issue of the point 'Why Not' and Nancy were trying to make.
I was trying to provoke introspection into the fact that not all "Americans" look the same or have the same backgrounds. Just because someone does not look and acts like you, should not preclude them from being American. I served with many people of Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern decent that were born and raised in the US of A. Heck I even owe my life to a few, and I'm not just talking of combat situation, my physician has Asian heritage and was born and raised in Tennessee! So again,'Why Not' care to clarify your post? |

shop Tom Thumb knowing Citgo gas comes from Chavez? That is great. Good call. Who cares if it is owned by an Indian family. They had the money, they want to work hard and make a living. You see the american dream is still alive in their hearts. For the most part it is dead in the hearts of natural born Americans. We are lazy, fat, and want handouts from the government. As far as talking our language...Do you mean Engligh or Crestuckyish?

Why is it bad when companies are bought out like this? Well I know of 5 people that worked for Phillips that are now out of jobs. Stopped in one of these stores last night and an India-n was working the desk. You don't really care who owns what as long as they provide jobs for local people, and when they go out and spend their money in other local businesses and that is the trouble with people from India and a lot of Asians, they don't help their communities, they just take from them.

Most of the people that worked there showed up to work and were told that they didn't have a job anymore. Now how are they supposed to support there families? There aren't enough jobs here as it is. Crazy you are right. I feel bad that they lost there jobs and hope that they can find something soon.Especially since it is right before the holidays.
