Home values went DOWN we are in a recession, why keep lying and putting burden on the homeowners? |

You are kidding right?
We had to beg and plead, provide an appraisal at our own cost, have a hearing and were told that just because house values came down, taxes would not come down. I am still trying to figure out where the money goes...it sure as hell isn't to plow our roads. |

It's very easy to check your appraisal. In fact the auditor's office has step by step instructions on their web site. I found them very easy to work with. I think you can appeal until March, but make sure to check your value first! The board you appeal to can raise or lower your value.

well you know Obama is going to save us all. Lets see how many promises he keeps, I'll give him the chance. However,seems like the working class has to pick up the tab for everyone.
Sorry but the Auditor should have dropped our taxes when everything crashed! They build 2 new schools, tack that on when they don't have the funds and make the homeowners foot the bill! No offense to the welfare, what are they paying? I'm single and my raises have not went up to handle all these increases in taxes. The person who appraised our places had to been blind because we have several for sale and they are considered priced too high. And the building are all old and need work, What's that tell ya! OH and I did appeal and got very LITTLE relief, furthermore my father went in to ask about the homestead and their people were totally clueless, he just shook his head and left. Medina is disqusting! I'm tired of footing the bill for mismanagement. Like we needed a library with fireplaces etc.. And don't forget a parking garage? Give me a break. VOTE THEM ALL OUT at every election and please school board you all should take paycuts like the rest of us. |

I totally agree! I live in a condo and we have 5 up for sale and they have been for a while. NONE of them are selling let alone have people looking at them. I'm a single mother (divorced) and the schools send us long list of a bunch of crap WE have to buy. I get NO assistance either and my wages never went up to cover all these increases in Medina City. They auditor has mismanaged their appraisals and screwing the homeowners. We need new leadership in Medina City, not just new buildings, parking garage, taj mahal rec and libraries. We have to live within our means THEY should TOO!

I followed the auditor's instructions and was able to get my value where it needed to be. My father, across town, followed the instructions and found his house was lower than what property was selling for. I think if you take the time to understand the process, it works much better. I think the key point, for me, is that they appraise a year behind. Our taxes this year (2009) are for our property value as of January 1, 2008. This means you have to look at sales in 2007. It's pretty straight forward and all the sales are on the web site.

Their office contacted ME about homestead! Saved me over $400 a year in taxes! Make sure your dad didn't go to the treasurer's office (downstairs). They are clueless! Everybody mixes the two up.

I have to agree about the Library with the fireplaces.... who are we impressing putting fireplaces in a Library anyways. Times are getting harded and harder and we continue to waste money on nonsense stuff and then the bill falls back on us..... Let us decide if we need all these fancy new buildings that will eventually close down because they go overboard....

Anyone know Herb Headwell? He is in the area - we are looking for information - he was our employer (Xero-Fax)- bounced payroll, didn't pay our health insurance premimums and retirement. We are currently working with the US DOL, Cole County Prosecutor, NY Labor Board, NY State Police, etc.

Well, I've got to say, I talked to Auditor Kovak myself. He reviewed my property, told me what I had to do. I did it. I filed in February and it has taken til now, but they did reduce my value down! I was suspicious, but this guy spoke the gospel to me!

1 Lets start spreading the taxes in a Sales Tax instead of hitting the poor homeowners! And lets be reasonable with the appraisals! If Hambley is so worried about the welfare people that he has coming in from Cleveland now, LET HIM PAY for the upcoming levy AGAIN for the schools, because they think we are all made of money. SHARE THE WEALTH then SHARE THE TAXES! |

I work in the auditor's office. Everybody there knows about the homestead program, it's on our website, we have a brochure for it, we send representatives out to every city & village to take applications. What was your question about it? It's a very simple program. |

How can you own a home and not know how the system works? Ohio auditors can only change all county values every three years. And all values run a rear in ARREARS....that means a year later. If you want to fight the system you at least have to know how it works. |

Then the auditors people should know how it works. It's obvious some of his employees had a nerve struck with this post. Laws change, times change, sometimes a Senior Citizen may not realize all the ins and outs, so be a little understanding if they don't understand. Unfortunately I am selling my home because of the schools and taking a loss. I can't afford to live in Medina City anymore. They just spend spend spend, I got no raise, my taxes went up and I'm just done supporting our governement and schools overspending.

I don't work for the auditors and I know nothing about tax breaks for seniors. It just irks me that people complain and make idiots out of themselves. Good! If you can't afford it here, move out! The schools are the reason home prices are so good here. |
