ESDA and EMA personnel should respectively hold the title ESDA Bunnies. For 1 they Hop around like Bunnies in heat every time the sky gets gray. 2. they don't get paid 3. They all have orgasms when Tom Skillet-head from WGN has his weather spotting seminars. 4. most of the are wackers! see http://policeposers.com/ for the definition of a whacker. 5. think they are "big shots" when in uniform or riding around in their ESDA Bunny vehicles. 6. they have elliptic seizures when they see a police car, fire truck, or ambulance running code 3. 7. They have an odd fascination with hand-me-down old police cars and fire equipment. 8. Wal-Mart won't hire them as security guards. 9. Help Help the sky is falling, blast that tornado sireeeeen again! 10. they think "COPS" and Rescue 911 are training films. 11.did I mention that they don't get paid?

What's your problem with bunnies? So you think volunteering is bad? Beyond that, they get paid for their planned events. You bring up some good things. If you're upset with some of their old equipment, how about you recommend they get some newer equipment and help them out? Nothing wrong with using older equipment and be economical.

I think the morons complaining about the ESDA are jealous that their criminal records or DUI convictions won't let them become ESDA.

ES What wrote: <quoted text> The alarm has been set off plenty of times when there is no tornado and no funnel anywhere near here. Thunder and lightning = New Lenox jumping the gun on this. The sirens only go off when a funnel cloud is spotted. And its better to be well prepard if one does come. Your the same person who would then complain that they didnt set the alarm off in time. WTF do you want? They can either help your lazy ass or you can take care of yourself. Why dont you get educated on the subject and see then.

VARY WELL SAID MY FRIEND. They are only complaining because they can't pass the drug test and don't give a dam about anyone else. Well Informed wrote: Where do I start. In my Emergency Management Agency (ESDA) I would never accept our personell treating the public in a disrepectful manner. Many of the things you all are discussing here are a little off base. There are many ESDA personell who go on to become firefighters or police officers. I also have several who are active firefighters and like to help out the community on a volunteer basis. The siren systems are set off on a town by town basis in the northern part of Will County. If you think they are setting them off for no reason, contact your villages Village Manager for a better answer. Quite often there are wall clouds and funnel clouds that are spotted within the community but someone several blocks away will not see it due to location, obstruction and rain. The national weather service issues tornado warnings and we are responsible for following those if we feel they affect the community to protect the population. As for most of my department membership, they are there for one reason. To get involved to help the community. Try directing traffic for hours on end in the rain with no relief when all of the drivers are yeling at you because they only know one way to get home. Our volunteers all have famlies, full time jobs and careers and dedicate themselves to assisting the community. If you truly do see people driving cars while drinking, yelling at you for no reason, goofing off or otherwise acting unprofessional IT IS YOU DUTY TO NOTIFY YOUR VILLAGE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING. Complaining here does nothing

you people do realize that NLESDA does not get paid. they are VOLUNTEERS. so no higher taxes and the only people who have take home cars are the 2 deputy chiefs. as for the guy drinking and driving the take home car home. that is 100 percent false i know him on a personnal basis he does not do that. and do you know that ESDA is out everytime there is a thunder storm. if the conditions look like there is a possibility of a funnel cloud they sound the alarm which is what the NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE tells us to do. so you want to blame anyone blame them. and why the lash out saying they cant get jobs they are wannabees? what made you so pissy? actually only a few want to be cops, others just like helping the community if that is bad then go live in another town they are not going anywhere becasue they save the police department thousands because they dont have to pay a police officer overtime and they help out the fire department a lot. so as a review, volunteer so no higher taxes only 3 people have take home cars, they dont drink then drive village vehicles they are not wannabees they just like to help. and you woke up on the wrong side of the bed

FYI wrote: <quoted text> The NLFD tests the alarm I believe once on month on Tuesdays to make sure the siren(s) function properly so that when there is a need, it is working. Be informed before you slam someone. Now you look foolish. No its ESDA that does the alarms. the controls are in the department.

Now im not hear to bash, but i enjoy having a ESDA unit in my area. Though i feel that many of the ESDA guys are a bit over zealous, they do come in handy for the police and fire depts. Many times when the police have a large scene to deal with or have some type of incident that may take a long time they will contact ESDA to come out and assist usually with traffic or crowd control. Which them coming to assist is a great asset because it frees up officers and allows the freed up officer to respond to emergencies. My only complaint would be when i see ESDA running code(lights and sirens). Now I can understand that they do respond to emergency situations, though they are not first responders and i believe that them driving code should be monitored more. I'm sure there are times a rapid response from them is necessary. But There is no need for ESDA to respond to a traffic control assignment lights and sirens when there main function is to relieve police units that are already on scene. Or to drive code (lights and sirens) through a construction zone cutting off cars to go block off a road for a escort duty that hasnt even started.
