Accidents Do Happen

Malfunctioning fluoridation equipment caused excessive fluoride levels of 70 parts per million (ppm) in the distribution system. This is 70 times the normal level and almost 18 times the level considered safe by EPA....



There is enough fluoride to kill a small child in a single large tube of toothpaste.

The maximum fluoride concentration in toothpaste is 1,500 ppm.
Having a much smaller fluoride concentration in water does not make it a safe substance, as fluoride accumulates in the human body as well as in the environment.
There are still risks associated with a fluoride concentration of 1 ppm and accidents do happen in water plants, putting both workers and the public at risk....

*August 1993 -- Poplarville, Miss: 40 persons poisoned; 15 sought treatment at hospital. Pizza Inn manager was the first to notify city officials after several customers became ill.
*August 1993 -- Galesburg, Illinois: Tank truck delivering fluoride to water treatment plant leaked 15-20 gallons on city street. Streets barricaded until fire department’s hazardous materials unit could clean up the spill.

*May 1993 -- Kodiak, Alaska (Old Harbor):...
*January 1993 -- Sarnia, Ontario: Fluoride at 13 ppm Mayor and public notified after the fact. Sarnia Mayor Bradley stated that the public should have been notified in time so people could choose whether to drink the water or not. And, that those responsible for fluoridating,“shouldn’t be investigating itself.” The fluoridating computer-controlled system had failed to shut down.
*July 1992 -- Marin County, California: Due to a pump malfunction allowing too much fluoride in the Bon Tempe treatment, 2 million gallons of fluoridated were diverted to Phoenix Lake, elevating the lake surface by more than two inches forcing some water over the spillway.
*June 1992 -- Danvers, Illinois: Fluoride pump malfunctioned; level of fluoride not stated in local paper, but warning must have been given. After flushing the water through fire hydrants, the Illinois EPA allowed the city to lift the warning.
*May 1992 -- Hooper Bay, Alaska:... 260 poisoned;... It was first speculated that the residents had a “flu virus.”... charging negligence for not warning villagers of the high fluoride levels.(Read Morning News Tribune article about this accident.)
*February 1992 -- Rice Lake, Wisconsin:... Pump overfed fluoride for two days, thought to have reached 20 ppm. In a domino effect, high winds caused volt lines to connect, causing conductors to burn to ground and a jumper to fail, resulting in failure of the anti-siphoning device, causing fluoride to pour through the pipes....
*December 1991 -- Benton Harbor, Michigan: Faulty pump allowed approximately 900 gallons of hydrofluosilicic acid to leak into a chemical storage building at the water plant. City Engineer Roland Klockow stated,“the concentrated hydrofluosilicic acid is so corrosive that it ate through more than two inches of concrete in the storage building.” This water did not reach water consumers, but fluoridation was stopped until June 1993. The original equipment was only two years old; Mr. Klockow had hoped to recover the cost of the pump and repair costs to the building.
*September 1991 -- Calgary, Alberta, Canada: Fluoride diffuser problems in six machines....“This product is an acid so we can’t put it through a steel pipe because it corrodes, but plastic isn’t strong enough.”
*September 1991 -- Burlington, North Carolina: 4,000 gallons of a 6,000 gallon fiberglass fluoride tank ruptured....Replacement tank was expected to cost $15,000.
*July 1991 -- Portage, Michigan: Approximately 40 children with abdominal pains, sickness, vomiting and diarrhea at an arts and crafts show at school. One of the city’s fluoride injector pumps failed. Fluoride levels not determined at the time, but later tested at 92 ppm.(See study about accident)
*November 1990 -- St. Louis, Missouri: 500 gallons of hydrofluosilicic acid leaked from a ruptured pipe at the St. Louis County water works plant....
*October 1990 -- Westby, Wisconsin:...Fluoride equipment malfunctioned, causing the fluoride to surge to 150 ppm.... The fluoride corroded the copper off the pipes in area homes, 70 times higher than the EPA recommended limit. Westby Council stopped fluoridating.

"We began to worry when an emergency service officer introduced himself and declined to shake Mike's hand. We knew we had been exposed to a dangerous chemical; after that we began to feel contaminated. A towing service worker reminded me the next day,'You don't know how close to death you came.'" This quote came from Orlando Sentinel reporter Bo Poertner, who was an eye witness to an accident near Deltona, Florida, on Sept. 6, 1994. Poertner was driving behind a tanker truck enroute to Raleigh, North Carolina, when it split in half and spilled 4,500 gallons of industrial grade hydrofluosilicic acid onto Interstate 4.

Hydrofluosilicic acid is the most corrosive chemical agent known to man: it is derived from toxic gases produced in the manufacture of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers; it contains lead, mercury, arsenic, and high concentrations of radionucleides; it is also the chemical agent most used for water fluoridation in the United States.

what grade of fluoride would the budget of a small town be able to afford?

I keep remembering the little three year old boy who was a given fluoride treatment at the dentist.

He was instructed to go spit it out in the sink, but he swallowed the sweetened substance and died.

was given a lethal dose of fluoride at a city dental clinic and then ignored for nearly five hours in the waiting rooms of a pediatric clinic and Brookdale Hospital while his mother pleaded for help, and he lapsed into a coma and died.

The child, according to testimony at a four-day trial in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn,
suffered spasms of vomiting and nausea,
headaches and dizziness,
and had to be revived from a coma by an injection of adrenaline into his heart several hours after his ordeal began.

The boy was then made to wait - in shock,
another coma and finally in a state of cardiac arrest - for more than an hour before getting further treatment, witnesses said.

Stomach-Pumping Suggested

Other testimony indicated that the boy might have been saved at almost any time during the four hours and 40 minutes before he died by having had his stomach pumped
or by having him drink some milk or lime water,
which would have changed the fatal fluoride compound he had been given into a nontoxic calcium fluoride.

The story of the boy's death was related by his mother during the trial. She recalled that she took William, born on Feb. 7, 1971, for his first dental checkup on May 24, 1974, to the Brownsville Dental Health Center, a city clinic at 259 Bristol St.

There, he was examined by Dr. George, who found no dental caries and turned the boy over to Miss Cohen, a dental hygienist, for a routine teeth cleaning procedure. After cleaning, witnesses explained, Miss Cohen, using a swab, spread a stannous fluoride solution in the form of a jell over the boy's teeth as a decay preventive measure.

When used by a dentist or dental hygienist after a teeth cleaning, the fluoride jell is in a relatively strong solution, and a patient is told not to swallow it.

Instead, after the solution is allowed to remain on the teeth briefly, the patient is given water and told to wash his mouth out and expectorate.

Fatal Solution Swallowed

According to Mrs. Kennerly, Miss Cohen was engrossed in conversation with a co-worker while working on William and, after handing him a cup of water, failed to instruct him to wash his mouth out with it and spit out the solution.
Mrs. Kennerly said that Miss Cohen was not paying attention when William drank the water about 9:30 A.M.

In drinking the water, according to a Nassau County toxicologist, Dr. Jesse Bidanset, William ingested 45 cubic centimeters of 2 percent stannous fluoride solution, triple an amount sufficient to have been fatal.

Upon leaving the dentists chair, William began vomiting, sweating and complaining of headache and dizziness.
His mother, appealing to the dentist, was told the child had been given only routine treatment.
But she was not satisfied and was sent to the Brookdale Ambulatory Pediatric care unit in the same building.

For Maximum Health Hazard, Just Add Fluoridated Water...

As if that wasn't bad enough, there are a number of other factors that make soy formula an even more dangerous option.

One of these factors is the fact that fluoride can increase manganese absorption, so if you mix the powdered- or concentrated soy formula with fluoridated water, you're worsening matters even further!

Fluoride and manganese interact in a number of ways through various pathways.

For example, fluorides can cause zinc deficiency which in turn can cause damage to your brain by altering your manganese levels.

This is because fluorides act as a TSH (thyroid-stimulating-hormone) analogue, and along with iodine, zinc and selenium are also controlled by TSH. And when you're deficient in zinc, the manganese levels in your brain become altered.
