FYI "Sue" and "Carl" are one and the same. She uses different names and posts to herself because mostly everyone ignores her nutty rants. Looks like she forgot to change her name back to "carl" before she responded to you.

NOW BACK to the topic of jail:

"...DETROIT – One measure of how tough times are in the Motor City: Some of the offenders in jail don't want to be released; some who do get out promptly re-offend to head back where there's heat, health care and three meals a day.

"For the first time, I'm seeing guys make a conscious decision they'll be better off in prison than in the community, homeless and hungry," said Joseph Williams of New Creations Community Outreach, which assists ex-offenders. "In prison they've got three hots and a cot, so they commit a crime to go back in and come out when times are better."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/motown_blues ;…

The land of the free? Really?

How much does it cost to keep a person imprisoned for one year? I haven't looked at the recent statistics, but I seem to recall reading that the costs are very high to society, that the average prison guard makes more than a school teacher nowadays....

Any facts and figures on this? Prisons are big business, now. Private prison contracting firms making big money on the tax-payers dime, much like weapons and defense contracting outfits like Haliburton and Blackwater. Would it not actually be cheaper to have social programs which would permit people to live outside and possibly contribute to society, rather than lock them up? And what kind of society is it when people are choosing to go to prison? Is "socialism" really such a bad concept, compared to a police/prison state?

What of the costs to society for throwing families out of their homes in the current mortgage crisis? Bailouts for Wall Street bankers and corrupt auto company executives, but not for regular people?

Additional Details
According to this, "The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate,[3][4] and total documented prison population in the world"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Stat

All fans of a prison state here can at least spare us the hypocrisy of governments like BushCo. spreading "freedom" in the world.

i will tell you this much the people here in our country have been brainwashed since birth that this is the best there is. well that's bs in Venezuela there giving low payment loans for people to buy a new built home or a new car and the govt there provides health care . they get a retirement check when there old enough and they are all happy and no one does with out.why cant we be like that because its not our nature here they have to bleed you dry its the rich mans country to help a poor man that's not the way its profits profits screw the man needing an operation if he has no ins or funds let him die that's the attitude here . im for going socialist to help my fellow country men sleeping in there car because the banks bleed them dry. or the brother out there hurting because he needs surgery but no funds and no one will help, yes its time for change
Source(s):
capitalism has hurt the majority this is a rich mans country. the bail out money for the banks well the big executives got 1.6 billon dollars in bonuses and the little people lost there homes you see my point.

shelters sometimes worse than jail:
I lost my job and was evicted and now for the first time I am dependent on the services of others. So called civil servants paid with the taxes I once paid. Now I see what it is like. This is supposed to be run by caring individuals who want to be of service to society, not by cruel prison wardens. I WANT MY BLANKET. LET US KEEP WHAT DIGNITY WE HAVE LEFT. If you want to cut down on shelter infestations, sweep the floor and make the residents take a bath. Do YOUR job.
Retrieved from "http://sfhomeless.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Sh... ;

I work at shelters run by the organizaton tha run Next Door, and our staff here for the most part is really uncaring. I have to agree that mainly the black staff do not care about their jobs here and at ND. The problem is that Episcopal Community Services of SF does not pay shelter workers nearly enough for the stress we deal with on a daily basis (except for shift supervisors, who earn 15+/hr, yet some, like John Ouertani and Leo Hands, are simply and unjustifiably indifferent to their jobs and aggressively demean clients, and one of them has even had sex with several female clients), and so the staff really has no motivation or incentive to go the extra mile, except to maybe further their career an gain a promotion. The few that are truly compassionate can be counted on one hand, and most are only at the shelters less than three times a week for extracurriclar activties. It is a sad state of affairs when a nonprofit organization receives billions in funding from the Human Services Agency and is somehow "overbudget" and forced to eliminate positions and cut benefits from the already low-paid service employees and severely ration the outflow of basic human needs such as toilet paper and bar soap, yet retain four Human Resources administrative positions, the most out of any nonprofit in California (we only have about 165 employees. Seriously!). Trust me when I say this, but although the staff is miserable (some openly and some not, but it all shows through client interaction), the real problem really stems from the actions of a quasi-corrupt upper management and HR team. It really is sad and I reflect on this at LEAST every other day, but it really is all about the money with this company. Our director of shelters herself (Kathy Treggiari) has often said to us during staff tranings and meetings, when explaining the reasons behind certain policies or procedures, verbatim, "It's so we can cover our ass. It's all about covering our ass." And that, sadly and accurately, represents the mindset of this company.

The shelters (especially Next Door) are run by ghetto-trash individuals with little or no education, who take delight in degrading, insulting, and making life even more miserable for people who are experiencing economic difficulties. If clients are elderly, relatively sane, clean and tidy....staff members do everything that they can to break their spirits.
The beds are infested with bedbugs, which staff members refuse to do anything about.
Thugs and psychotics are not only allowed to run rampant, but are encouraged.
Jails are cleaner and safer than the homeless shelters. At least, the police require everyone to shower, and follow certain rules of behavior.
No wonder there are so many elderly sleeping on the streets! It's safer than the shelters!

If they are rapist, child abusers or dumbass felons who get a GUN CHARGE while they are on parole for previous crimes it's worth every cent of the cost.

besides why are you so worried about the cost? It's not as if you pay 28% of your income for federal taxes.

the insane jealous step father needs to be brought to trial for the abuse he gave her.
and not allowed to plea bargain
and be required to register as a sex offender.
she was found to have child porn did he not.
and she was found to have been molested.
this is sick and perverted and we as tax payers are hiding him out in his new Bohemian retirement home,
mike porter's 8 year old daughter told that she caught her father spanking little kelsey til she puked, and another time she found him in the back yard banging her head against the brick wall, all in the week she died,
now how come this girl's testimony was not used against little Kelsey's killer to convict him.
8 year olds would not make up a story like that.
I wonder what the school teacher said when she told but no one brought her killer to trial.
I don't know about you but it sounds to me like justice was not found for this child from her jealous step father.

Um... Sue since no one else would post this outrageous BS, we know it's you.

Porter is in prison for 30 years and the other baby abuser is in prison for 28 years. Justice has been served.

There wasn't any porn on that computer it's just a load of crap that Raye's fan club cooked up.

Finding of molestation were inconclusive. However it's a FACT that Raye Dawn ran home after the funeral to clean house,(ie. BURN evidence). It's also a FACT she threw away her vibrator.

Can you post PROFF or is this another bit of propaganda from the real killer lover's fan club?

More important why wasn't she called as a defense witness for Raye? Maybe because Raye couldn't risk what else she might have said while testifying?

And I wonder why this (alleged) counselor didn't testify on Ray's behalf.

Sounds like the delusional ranting of an attention seeking groupie/fan/stranger pretending she knows things when she is actually clueless.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aquarius

The emotional atmosphere is quite potent under this Lunar Eclipse, evoking a sense of crisis. The problems you've been experiencing with a certain person lately come to a head during the next fortnight, making you feel that you have to take drastic action or lay down the law. Yet this could make the situation worse than ever, especially if you act from a sense of panic or desperation. Take things gently and don't throw your weight around unless it's absolutely necessary.
