I remember playing baseball on the fields down there at the bottom of Drey Street. I remember seeing it abandoned and thought I wonder what it looked like in its day, maintained and functional.

I worked my summers from college in that sweat box. My father-in-law was a super there so they cut me some slack. I know it was important for the local economy but I can honestly say I hated every minute there.

Right across the street was a Sinclair gas station
which was owned by Woody Woodal. My father used to buy gas there and on some summer nights you could watch the little train run the rail back and forth at the top of the stack..

I worked in the tank three summers. I think I was the only one there who never needed stitches. I'll never forget the hot repair we did. A lot of good men worked there.

I remember passing the company on the way
to the Arnold playground. I was 6 years old, and lived in Arnold until I was 8 years old.
We lived two blocks down from the Company.
Could remember the noise coming from the
glass company.

I remember the small candy/cigarette store across the street from the factory on Drey near the railroad tracks. I believe the owner was named Eddy although the name might be incorrect. This was a small store that I frequent as a kid although I don't remember very many customers in the store.
The Dispatch had an article on the store when the owner passed away.

As a youngster, I remember visiting my grandmother on 4th Ave a few doors down from the factory. That doggone whistle would go off at noon (and maybe 5pm too?) and I'd always jump a foot off the floor.

The good old days!

My father worked there for many years. He was the last man in that plant. He will be 91 years old this month

My grandfather lived on Kenneth Ave. One street behind the glasshouse, as we called it. We saw it from his backyard every time we played there.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Taurus

Everything seems to be getting under your skin at the moment, but this is no excuse to lose your temper, and you know it. Better by far to be discreet and plough on steadily, without looking to the left or right. If you keep your feet on the ground and don't get discouraged, there are definitely fair winds that will blow you along. It's just a question of finding the right balance between confidence and commonsense.
