Plante noted that weekday evenings are a tough time to get parents to make the trip to the State House, but he is confident many people will share their feelings on the issue. In his opinion, it’s those testimonies of regular Rhode Islanders that matter most.

True education gives people the tools they need to make informed decisions. Their notion of education is to spread their fears about the horrors and evils that will happen if society allows gays to have rights comparable to their own - all totally unfounded.

I agree that this is our biggest problem, but no one seems to have found the answer yet. How do you get those who don't really care one way or the other to actually vote FOR equality, if the equality argument itself isn't enough?
The pro-gay and anti-gay sides will always come out to vote, but that leaves out the VAST MAJORITY of those in the middle. In the prop 8 vote, there were enough people who didn't vote on prop 8 on way or the other but DID vote on the rest of the issues to have swung the vote our way. Why didn't they vote on prop 8? What would it take to convince them to vote?
When we figure out the answer to that question, we'll never lose another vote.
