My husband went to a Hoyt Lakes grade school in the 70's. I am trying to find the name of it. I believe it was named after a woman.

There were 2 grades schools in Hoyt Lakes: Anna Keefe Elementary Gertude Boase Elementary |

|
Keefe was at the edge of town, Boase was more
in the middle. |

The Keefe is gone and has been for some time. The Boase on the other hand stands empty and should be demolished. That was my favorite school. I took my kids to look inside the front door and there was about 3 inches of standing water in it. We were very lucky to have our "own" hometown school in those days, however, that is not the case today. I am still having a hard time understanding WHY the district would build a new school. Build it and they will come? Does not seem practical.

Trying to find "On-Line" information about Aurora Hoyt Lakes history is hard for sure.
You'll have a hard time finding history of:(I'm not sure, but close on the dates built)(my elementary)- Gertude Boase-Hoyt Lakes(1956)- or any of the other schools - The Anna O'Keefe-Hoyt Lakes(1959)(which burned - then Partridge River, built around the gym, burned as well), the Cina School-Aurora(1966), the John Hearding-Aurora(1911 - Has been Razed), and the John Johnson-Aurora(1914 - Has been Razed) When I was a kid we used to ride our bikes down the hall tiles of the O'Keefe school - the only thing there was the floor of most of the school, the gym, and some playground equipment. The area has been cleared and only a storage garage remains. Now there is a new school built on areas where the Hearding, Johnson, the Tennis Courts, the Science Annex, and the Auto shop use to stand. The library expansion and the Administration buildings have been razed. The High School(1922), the memorial building(1957), and the new school inbetween is all the the district consists of. One campus should be cheaper and easier to run I would think - It's been sad to see the old schools go though. |

I attended Gertude Boase-Hoyt Lakes. Moved there in oct 1957 in the 5th grade. The following school year I started the 6th grade at OKeefe. It was complete at that time.

Sorry to hear about the old school. I moved there in 1957, second grade. Had Miss Leaf for 4th and 6th grade. Anyone know what happened to her. Last I heard she was getting married.
