DFLers devise backup tax and spending plan to overcome Pawlenty...

Full story: TwinCities.com

To break a standoff over taxes and spending, Minnesota Democratic legislative leaders on Thursday devised a backup plan to link funding for popular education and health care programs with some potentially acceptable tax increases that lawmakers could enact - with or without Gov.

These idiots don't get it! Raising taxes is not an acceptable option! Now I understand why some folks say DFL stands for Dumb Frickin Liberals. How about these clowns cutting their salaries and per diem allowance.

While raising taxes always stifles growth and wealth creation, raising taxes during a severe economic crisis is nothing short of legislative malpractice. Consider the income tax. Many small businesses file their business taxes on the individual income schedule. Thus, when the income tax is raised, this becomes a higher tax on small businesses. It doesn't take an economist to see that when small businesses

have more taken, they have less available to spend on employee benefits, capital equipment, and other truly stimulative expenditures.

How about the mortgage interest deduction? Every person who has a mortgage has counted on the mortgage interest deduction, which has been in the tax code for many decades. Does it really make sense to make home buying more expensive and push even more prospective buyers out of the market?

Anoka County has put numerous lobbyists on the public payroll to hang out at the Capitol. These knuckleheads couldn't even keep this provision out. Maybe too much time down at the Lexington with Dan Erhart .

Wake up Minnesota! Vote these tax sucking liberals out of office if you can ever shake off your DFL chains. Raise taxes during a recession will drive all jobs out of Minnesota. Get a clue.

Those damn DFLlers, do they know anything other than to tax the citizens of Mn. to death? They are the reason Mn, is the laughable showcase of idiots. We are the laughingstock of the country. All they think about is welfare and schools, welfare sucks us dry and the schools are in shambles. If possible go priate, at least you will have a say in how your child is educated, not by the state! More gas tax?. I will stay home, tax, tax, tax, M G STOP!

I agree. Obama is quadrupling our deficit which is a horrid idea as well. I don't think we ought to do so here in MN either. But I also don't think raising taxes is a good idea either. We have not cut the budget in MN since 1962! Not once. We spend more every year. If we can't cut it now during a downturn we never will. When does it end? So the thrid option is to hold the line on taxes and actually cut the budget for the first time in 47 years!

Governor Pawlenty is probably hoping that a few Republican statehouse representatives will support the current DFL budget balance proposals, in numbers enough to overcome a veto. Then he can continue that "no new taxes" nonsense, and be off the hook. It worked for the gas tax increase in the last session. The DFL House and Senate leaders should be able to pass a reasonable budget, and then go home. Here's a question. How many of us are suffering from those few extra pennies that we pay, for gas, after "The Biggest Tax Increase In Minnesota History"?

I think what's going to happen is the govenor's plan will make Minnesota worse, we all will be saying to each other, we should have listened to the Democrats, and Pawlenty's Presidential Plans will vanish into thin air.

Call it a hunch, a feeling, stupid intuition, or just plain being too liberal. But, I gotta tell you, the Governor's plan is based on a lot of projections that have to break just right for his solutions to be successful, while the Democratic plan takes a much more sound approach, fiscally responsible rationale.

I hope I'm wrong, because if the governor's projections are even slightly off, our State is going to be in some really big trouble.

The fact that taxes are a necessity is nothing new but, if we are going to have the same tax rates that our European neighbors have, shouldn't we enjoy the benefits including a shorter work week, more annual vacation, universal health care, pensions, free college tuition and the other perks?

I think this line of thinking is just wrong and unfair to the hardworking taxpaying citizens of Minnesota. It appears that only Governor Pawlenty sees what the people who pay the bills in this state are going through.

Its going to take someone with courage to look at Education MN and virtually every school board in this state and say "There's no more. You already get the most. Make due."

They need to visit every welfare, baby breeding, teat sucker and say,"We don;t want your kind here. You take no resposibility for your actions. You are responsible for virutally all crime in this state. Its time for you to go hungry."

It's time for someone to stand up to the thieving illegal aliens who steal our jobs, our education and our charity. Go home and come back when you can follow the law.

It time to start taxing "green" like bike paths, wind power, solar power, organic food since consumers of these products appear to lead the chant for more taxes.

Create a special libraries tax, if you want more hours, pay for them.

Tax high minded U of M professors who don't teach and expect more pay and adulation. You'd think with all the brain power over there they could figure out how to educate the kids of MN without passing on double digit tuition increases or foregoing MN kids for a more "diverse" population from anywhere else. While you're at it tax losing Division 1 sports programs. If you can't give us something to be proud of you should be taxed.

More money for education? Did I miss some catastrophic turn of events in the news? In the past two weeks, we've read stories in the Pioneer Press of proposed school closings in Minneapolis and St. Paul due to declining enrollments and of the fabulous new "state of the art" Taj-maHigh School being built in Woodbury. Hardly sounds like an "under-funded" situation to me.
More money for schools? Same whine, different vintage.
