so is nothing further going to be done? does he really need to have a prior record for it to be become a big deal? curiousity at 15 is still something that should very much be taken serious.. and before it's too late.

"Nothing to be worried about!" As a parent of children in the North Adams School system, it is in my opinion something to be worried about! This child may have just been courious, but what if the gun got into hands of someone else. Small towns are by far not exempt from crime. I am saddened to think that this is something we now have to fear of in Decatur.

As a student at Bellmont Middle School, this somewhat makes me kind of scared in a way of going to the High School. It even somewhat will now make me a little more alert of who I hang around with at lunch and recess. Whoe's to say they don't try their chances and bring a gun. An older boy or girl will probobly know how much trouble they would get into if they shot the gun, but a younger child may not and fire the gun. They may not shoot another student but it is not worth the risk.

My little brother goes to school there I really hope the police take this a little more seriously! "nothing to be worried about" is very upsetting. Small towns are just as likely as big ones to have school shootings! Prior record or not everyone starts somewhere!!

students did know all about it. maybe not a lot of the students, but some. I am a freshman at bellmont high school and i was in his class when he was taken out of the room. i doubt that zach would have hurt anyone since he is a really really nice person. I'm even friends with him.

Once again Ken Ketzler, Decatur's police chief, has missed the call again! How can he say there should be no concern? If this kid was "just curious" how does he know that he wouldn't be just as curious to see how it feels to actually use it! Come on people......WAKE UP! Things like this do happen in small towns like Decatur! Have we forgotten about the State Police officer who was gunned down in Decatur by a fellow classmate of mine? I had a locker beside the man who shot this officer, and I would have liked to believe that he would never have done such a thing! This needs to be taken seriously!!!!!!!!

Just a thought here........The story says the cops got the call anonomously from a student. I'm wondering if the call didn't come from the kid with the gun looking for 15 minutes of fame.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the staff was not told of the situation either. We still have not been officially told anything. The only information we have to go on is rumor. In fact, one "rumor" that has not been put in print is that the student brought the gun and loaded clips to school to sell them. I'm finding it disturbing to see the whole situation reduced to a student being curious. This is not a 5 year old child we are talking about here.
The school was not put under lockdown because the situation was "under control". With what criteria did they use to determine that the situation was "under control"---a 15 year old that had just brought a gun and loaded clips to school? The only way to be reasonably certain of the situation is to follow the procedures set forth for a lockdown and search lockers and backpacks. The comments I have been hearing from students and staff sounds eerily familiar to all the other situations that have ended with dead bodies instead of a loaded gun and clips.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Pisces

Family, friends and in-laws are all hard to please. It is better to please yourself for once, dear Pisces, than to bang your head against a wall. You need to relax and get in touch with your own feelings. Do not hesitate to speak up for someone you care about. Someone may try to curtail your freedom. Set them straight and do not give in.
