I heard yesterday that it was about 38. I've heard for a while now that things at ICG are going slow. If not mistaking Webster Trucking had a few days off a few weeks ago because of things slowing down. Truth is coal is pretty much just being stock piled for many coal mines because the prices are down and they don't want to sell so low. If you research it across the net their is a lot of coal mines cutting back. Not only in WV but PA and KY. Premier Elkhorn Coal Company's PE 4 and PE 5 mines laid off about 100 workers, Massey in Harlan let go of 30 and had sent home 27 others, Canonsburg, Pa.-based PinnOak Resources recently laid off 200 miners at two mines in Pineville and a third in Alabama. Consol Energy PA one of the largest underground mine companies laid off hundreds of workers. There is a topic on Miners News on the internet that also says that ICG has made statements about cutting back or closeing down.

How is King Coal holding up with the price of coal so low? Are they doing cut backs as well?

My husband is a underground coal miner and I have a Job to help support our family. I dont know how you could be happy not contributing anything to your family. I guess thats why you are so concerned, because the familys only source of income is from your poor husband. I would be ashamed of myself depeneding on my husband all the time. yes brooks run gives checks out alot, it is the future you need to be worried about and not the checks today as the other poster wrote. I bet you are one of the lazy women that say.. Oh i am a full time mommy, i cook clean, take care of the bills and the kids and the house and yada yada.. well honey big Whop, here is a news flash for ya.... We ALL do that, plus most of us other wives, mothers and homeowners also have a Job. so feel free to worry about your familys future while you sit around the house eating bon bons and trying to make people thing you are lucky, sorry to let you know, nobody envys lazy people

did i say my husband worked at Brooks Run? No i didn't and he doesn't work there.. I was just stating a fact that they got 2 bonus checks! I am a working mom too..

Reality check. Just so I don't get bashed later. I'm a working women with no kids nor am I married. However have many friends in the coal mine business. To say coal mines aren't hurting right now is a lie. There is a bill in the house right now that will stop cap and trade. Also their is a huge movement to stop mt. top removal. Weither your for coal or against it there is more to the picture. personally i'm against mt. top removal however i realize that their our thousands of men and women that are their doing thier jobs to bring home the money for their families. This increased checks for the "big man" is BS and the only ones who dont think so are the ones getting them. those big bonus checks not only in coal but everywhere is whats got america in this mess. Also its just as plan as this if your partner makes enough for you to stay home, its great however there are more then half of this worlds families where both adults work and some where older kids must go to work to help out. Each family is diffrent. however i'd like to say who ever wrote about McD that was just stupid to assume that she couldnt get a better job. Let me tell you all this if coal dies in already poor webster you can bet that this well be the begining of the dark ages once again. so to sum things up. Coal Mines+big checks=bad! I know in coal that each mt is in groups the big name guys then contractors. Sorry but they are all the same. All have families and need stable income. Don't bash the lucky wife that can stay at home rasing her kids or what ever she does nor the one who has to work. Both are good but realize there might be a day when you've got to be the bread winner or change your life style to afford it.
