James Cade was found down at the playground, they ruled it a suicide because he supposedly killed his "friend" at the time, Lynn Lyndsay.(Spelling of last name?) At that time they were investigating Lynn for the murder of Ms Albert. I think you might be talking about Arnie Pullin. He was killed by Tad Falls.

Wasn't Lynn killed before Ms. Albert? He could not have been a suspect.

Please tell what unsolved murder in Alleghany county you find to be the most interesting. There are many choices Agie Albert, the woman who "drove" her car off the boat ramp at lake momaw, the school teacher who's car was ran off the road on the mountain, and several others. Then we have the others that were ruled "accident" or something else.
Does anyone know anything about the lady who drove her off the boat ramp? This is the first I've heard about that.

C.W. Had Ms. Wickersham murdered. I know this for a fact. All the players involved are now dead though.

Lynn was killed on June 3 James and Aggie both died on July 3 James supposedly shot himself 20 minutes before Aggie died I say supposedly because of the bruising and injuries he had suffered, but no one wants to hear about that do they! I'm glad to hear that they are reinvestigating the case, there are too many families with broken hearts and no answers!

The Diane Wickersham case has eaten at me for 30+ years. I was in high school at the time and my father was one of the areas biggest employers(at a plant) and I had the inside track on the chatter of the wags of Alleghany Co. at the time of the murder.
There is no doubt that some posters here have bits and pieces which are true, but there is much errata as well.
She was a music teacher living at The Reid House Hotel. She was gay, but her lover was not one of her students. The father of her lover, who was known for her singing voice, was the owner of a smallish grocery store. Needless to say in the late 60's this sort of romance was not accepted happily.
Here is where I must enter into an area of conjecture mixed with some fact: it was said that the grocer had a patsy murder Diane. She was placed into her car and towed up the hills/mtns by the affluent owner of a towing company himself.(the towing part I know is true). It was made to look like an accident or possible suicide. Remember this was eons before C.I.S. and detectives from a small town could be easily fooled. However Mr. Well to Do towing mogul was not at ease at all to say the least with the role he played. Regret and alcohol spills a lot of beans. So, to this day everyone alive at tat time knows that murder was accomplished and a number of swells were involved. But I can categorically assure you that Ms Wickersham was not partaking in any student/teacher
love affair. What a sad thing that what she and her friend were doing is now as accepted as buying a cocktail at a restaurant. Which was also forbidden then. I have published 2 books in the past 10 years, and it has long been a fantasy of mine to do an "Ann Rule" type piece on this case. But all the players are dead now. Even my dear Dad is gone, so I doubt I'll ever fulfill my desire for the truth to be known.

Diane was my sister. I was very young when she passed away, but I've learned many new things about what I've been told. I'm grateful people cared for her. I miss her greatly. My parents were never the same after her death. Thank you for all for the information and the discussion--and the caring.

Interesting that she was actually in her second year of teaching. Sometime during the first year, she found out about another job opening and went to the Superintendent to recommend another friend from Ga. State. I went on line any found a pic of her old friend in a yearbook. The friend was living in a adjacent/connected room at the hotel downtown where single teachers tended to live. If indeed she was having a relationship with the daughter of a local hotshot, it may be that the relationship was over and that she had returned to a college relationship. It is interesting to note that that young woman left town almost immediately after the murder. This raises the option that it was not the hotshot father, but the daughter herself who may have had something to do with this.
Don't know why, but this case just fascinates me. The body was found on the edge of a mountain by a family that lived a few houses up the "holler" from where my grandparents lived. They could probably see the car from their back field.
<quoted text>
My grandpa and uncle were the ones who found the car and body. You are right they could see something from the yard. But not the car but a reflective surface. It kept bothering my grandpa as to what it was. They went to see what it was and found her. My grandpa pasted away years ago but my uncle still remembers it clearly and so does my mother.

I went to school with James and his sister. I also heard that he "shot himself " but I also heard no gun was found? Is this true? Hummm... how do you commit suicide by shooting yourself and hide the weapon? I hope someone figures this out

I also heard that Aggie was cleaning up and counting the money from the bingo game that night and was attacked in the alley between the church and the parsonage (priest house ). I was told she was sexually assulted but not raped. The priest was being looked at as either a witness and/or suspect when he was transferred our of Covington. I know it was very unexpected because I know people who were close to him. These deaths have bothered me for years. Covington is home and home to my family. I would love to see this get solved.(Hairdressers hear everything )

My favorite one is the school teacher who had her car run off the road.I know some of the first people to find her they said it was obvious she had been hit in the head and there were other defensive marks on her.The story goes that a covington business man who is now dead and his initials are C.W. paid some local people to do this because the teacher was screwing around with his daughter.I had a friend that went to school with the daughter at that time and said this was common knowledge in the school and the area. The teacher was female and so was the mans daughter. As usual in Alleghany county this was quickly pushed under the rug.

It's not got a dam thing to do with the price of tea in china. Why should it go over my head I haven't did a dam thing and if it was u I'm sure u would look at it different. I was just sayin that teaches can do do this to kids and there family's and yet when u take it all to the bord it went under a rug.... when ur daughter goes to the office crying about all the kids saying things like who gets ur dad tonight ur mom or the teacher. This is very sick that's all I'm sayin.
