12 families X $2400.00 =$28,800.00
Probably take that much for them to catch up on their variable-rate mortgage payments.

Why would anyone in their right mind agree to pay this person in cashier's check or money order?? Second of all use your gut feeling when the rent was only $1400 a month. I've seen this scam on television where people agreed to pay cash for a used car, when in reality the owners ran off with the cash. It's very sad to see happen, but use common sense! Use a personal check or invesitate the matter further! If it's too good to be true, it probalby is!

I used a personal check and that made no difference from those who used a cashiers check or money order. I contacted the fraud dept to my bank and there is nothing they can do to recover my money. Before applying I looked up the property and he was the homeowner, the house was not in foreclosure, and he had been there for 2 years. I got a lease agreement and receipt. I researched his name and he has no prior record. I was in my right mind when doing the transaction. However, people can still be very scheming and the number is now approx. 30 families whom were schemed by this man. Do not think that all 30 of us are mindless whom got taken advantage of, it could have happened to anyone. I pray that this exposure will make others think twice about renting outside of reputable property management companies. I will never trust a renting from a homeowner again.

My heart goes out to "Ashley" and "Kortney". Typically you do not pay the deposit and first months rent until the rental agreement is signed and the keys are turned over. A small deposit to hold the home is the norm, not the entire deposit and first months rent. Just a thought, but if you have a valid rental agreement and he was the actual owner...why not move in? I suspect you would be within your rights and anyone challenging your possession would have to take you to court.

I encourage anyone who was a victim of this criminal come forward. I realize you may be embarrassed and feel foolish. This was not your fault and you were lied to like many others by a man who intended to steal from honest people. I realize the devastation and hardship this has caused you but if you do not report it, the crime may go unpunished.

Why Gilman
|
Why make it worse for these families because you SUSPECT moving in is within their rights? Why would you encourage the families to "move in" Gilman? The latest count is over 50 families scammed. This home could not shelter the number of people that have paid him for May 1. MOST IMPORTANTLY, this jerk did not turn over even one key, according to the families scammed. This means they would have to BREAK IN to gain access to the property, WHICH IS A CRIME. Haven't they been through enough already???? Why compound their pain and suffering by encouraging them to do something that will get them in trouble with the police or even arrested?

That's just cold-hearted. I feel sorry for the families that were scammed. I do not blame the victims one bit, the way the thieves planned it out, it seemed legit. I hope they are caught and if they are not, well I am a strong believer in Kharma.
