I'll just take a moment to help Seniors understand yhe quotes provided here.

"It's very important as a global business that we have equality and consistency with how we treat our customers," said Heintz

Heintz actually meant to say, "We realized we were not hosing the old folks in West Covina as badly as we could. The new plan changes that."

" Heintz said. "And how the package can actually save more money than the senior discount ever gave."

What he meant was, "One way or another, we're putting our hand deeper in your pocket while we still can you old f@$%."

Deputy City Manager Chris Freeland said the city has received several calls on the increases but there is little they can do about it.

"We would much rather have the senior discount," Freeland said. "It's really beyond our control. The economy is tough and every little dollar for seniors is so precious."

Freeland was thinking, "Hey, we already took the bribe, errr, fee moneys paid by Charter, we have to let them screw our taxpayers, it's part of the contract."

This has been provided as a community service to the Seniors of West Covina

I recently moved from a Charter area to a Time-Warner area and I can't believe the difference. We have the HD channels without having to pay for HD channels, it's standard. We have WAY more channels as well now.

P.S. Charter hosed us once as well. Our bill was constantly changing as they would add movie packages we never ordered etc. Once our bill jumped from 126$ to 165$ I cancelled. We had every possible channel perk you can think of that month, that we never ordered.

Here we go, stick it to the seniors again. First we don't get an increase in our Social Security payment next year but our medical deduction is going up. Now no more senior discount for seniors from Charter. I dropped Charter several years ago and couldn't be happier, all they do is gouge people, not just the seniors but all their customers. Hopefully enough people will drop them and give them a wake up call to do what's right and not what lines their CEO's pockets.

It's not fair to subsidize all the illegals either but we do, over and over again. Why not subsidize people who have given most of their lives to make this a better country.

Seniors, do yourselves the favor and switch to DISH. Unfortunatley the cable industry is a monopoly and you have no choice(Time Warner is definitley better quality and cheaper).

Even if you are saving only a few dollars and have some inconvenience in switching, You will feel great inside as you made your voice heard in the only way possible, with your dollars.

Just CANCEL it. it's not like you can't live without cable. Nothing on there anyway worth your time. If you must have television, free TV will fill in the void and has HD as well. Quit paying for hundreds of channels of ED commercials and time wasting reality shows.

Charter is one of the worst cable companys. This is not a good business move on their part.Giving a small senior discount is not only a smart business move but it's a cheap way to advertise a company.

I assure you, that the money you pay for your cable service, is not going towards subsidizing seniors cable service.Hopefully, you too will live long enough to become a senior someday. We'll see how you feel about seniors receiving small perks then.

Some of these seniors have no connection to the outside world, the T.V. in many cases is all they have left to stay informed and/or entertained. It's not much of a sacrafice to many younger people but it's alot to give up for them.

Wait until you're a senior and have nothing better to do than watch TV. Some of these folks live in retirement homes where they have no choice but to have cable or do without completely. Come on a little compassion goes a long way.

Did either of you even read what I wrote?

If you want TV, There are plenty of channels on free tv. Now that it has been digitized I can pick up over 50 channels with ordinary "Rabbit Ears", which cost under $10, and my FREE Converter box. Many more channels are available if you get a better anntena.

Google Los Angeles TV listings and see for yourself what is available for FREE.

Nowhere in my post did I write, seniors, which I am one of by the way, should not have TV. I am just mentioning that there is an alternative to being gouged by cable and sattelite services.

There is also the county library system that has thousands of DVD and VHS movies free to check out.

I read what you wrote, you said to "just cancel".

Free T.V. is garbage, my neighbor is a senior on social security and was forced to go with cable when his converter and antenna were giving him intermittent problems.

If free T.V. had the programming that people wanted to watch, cable and dish would be struggling to keep customers. Just because something will show up on your tv by using a converter box doesn't mean it's interesting or worth watching. Most seniors I know that currently have a pay service enjoy channels such as History, Nat. Geo., Discovery, etc., Is that on free tv?? Don't assume the channels you enjoy on free tv are what most others enjoy as well.

So as in my original post, recommending a switch(for people who want quality programming) is one way to keep what they have and pay less.

Charter has many standard HD channels that come included in the package that you do not pay extra for.

Charter is a rip-off company. We had Charter for 20 years, then with the upgrade to digital our picture kept cutting in and out with what they call "tiling", but they wouldn't give us a discount on our monthly bill. Said bye-bye to Charter and went with Dish. With the promotions we're saving $50 a month for the first year, and the second year we'll still be paying less than what Charter was charging us for its crummy product ... and we're getting a tremendously better picture to boot. Up here in the high desert the only way we get TV is cable or dish, nothing else can get over the mountains I guess.

Funny...I did have a few. But if I wanted the channels that I personally like in HD I had to order the HD package. It's free on Time-Warner.

Charter is a horrible cable company that ripped me off enough with the mysterious appearnces of Movie packages on my bill that I never ordered. I mean, come on, who the heck orders "Stars" every other month??

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Capricorn

You'll have difficulty finding equilibrium in your emotional life at the moment; try to control the impulsive side of your character. At work, your usual powers of intuition will be clouded. Fits of feverishness may bother you and break down your energy. If you can get out into the countryside for a walk, you'll feel much better.
