its a shame Baumfield and the SGV Editors find civil, civic particpation comical. The headline smacks of derision even while failing to include the voice of a student. Finally, what exactly was comical? The fact a public servant found it a threat to meet with a bunch of mommies?

I concur with Jose, you have to be kidding me on both fronts. First, that a senator actually dodges a meeting with 25 PTA members, students and school officials for "safety reasons?" He flees that, based on a supposed recommendation from the senate? Secondly, the Star-News finds this conduct "comical?" This is a disgrace. And Margett and his cronies probably sit around wondering why politicians are held in such low regard. Of course, there isn't much money this group could offer, so I can see why he wouldn't meet with them. Why bother?

Lower enrollments but you want more money? You want safer streets and criminals put away, but you don't want more money spent on prisons? Everyone wants their program to not be reduced but no one wants to pay more taxes? When you tax business and the rich, they simply move out to an area where taxes are less - then you loose 100%. Everyone must bear the burden of this tax deficit even schools that are experiencing lower enrollments. Next cycle when the coffers are full - don't approve new programs that require never-ending funding. Save for the "bitter" times as they always come - economies cycle - they go up and they go down. You economic teachers need to give fellow teachers, students and their parents some refresher courses in Econ 101.

Quit paying unreasonable salaries and instead invest the money in books and needed materials. Quit promoting and graduating those who are not eligible. They end up at McDonald's because they did not take advantage of an education to learn.
