Our View: Fuller, Shewmaker for West Covina schools

Full story: San Gabriel Valley Tribune

IT'S unfortunate that some politicians from West Covina are using the same kind of divisive party politics that have turned the Legislature and Congress into stalled, do-nothing bodies just to influence the race for West Covina Unified School District.

Is there an author for this story? Is this just the paper as a whole? Usually an author is still listed, or is someone trying to hide? NOT CONFIDENT with your endorsements maybe?

" As challenger Mindy Miracle brought up, 2,900 students at West Covina High School is too many But her solution to consequently hold off on district transfers is not practical. That would very much hurt the district's bottom line and thus end up hurting all the children."
This kind of thinking is excatly what the problem is. To many kids in the classroom is what hurting the academics of the kids. You eliminate everything but the academics then you'll see what you're true bottom line is.
As for saying that the incumbents are doing a fine job and moving the district in the right direction is a laugh. They waited until WCHS was overcrowded by almost double before they realized gee we need to open up another high school. That coupled with bucking tradition (IE starting school before Memorial Day. School on Columbus Day), together with the inconvenience of nearly 3000 families so we can have our meeting in the morning and not have to stay late, a self-serving attitude. Doesn't help the district's finding solutions for the real problems that confront our schools. The true problems that confront our schools here and nation wide is, accountability and interference by unions to address accountability, and how to fund non-academic school programs.
The incumbents obviously don't get it and need to be voted out. THROW THE BUMBS AND THE BUMBETS OUT!!!!

I am officially canceling my subscription to your paper! It is a shame that you would endorse the two worse candidates, they have no business being on the board now, much less being reelected. Had you done your research, you too would know that any of the 3 other candidates are what this school board needs. My only hope is that the voters do not rely on your paper to help make their final decision. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED and EMBARRASSED that you would choose these two candidates, not only are they rude, they lack the values we try to instill in the children of this community and they are extremely disrespectful to most that come their way. Maybe fliers were not sent out about the other candidates because their was nothing negative to be said about them. A simple internet search is enough to know that you have endorsed the wrong two people! I had one of these candiates come to my door and what they had to say was enough for me to know that even though I do not have any children in this district right now, I would never want either of them making decisions for our children. Their first impression on me was enough to get me to a board meeting in order to see them in action … and evidently what I saw happens at every meeting. Perhaps you should have sat in on a board meeting yourself, before you made your final endorsements! What a shame!

My, my such anger and no facts. The last two posters show that facts do not matter and continue to sling mud as the candidates they support have nothing to offer. So instead of telling the public why they should vote "for" the challengers, they have to make up stuff to tell people why they should not vote for someone else.

As one reads the above last two posters they think they speak for everyone. WCUSD is not cutting programs, closing schools, or terminating employees as many other districts. The district has enough room for everyone, no teachers have to change classrooms and no student is without a desk or books.

If one would look at the facts - if the facts are as stated by the last two posters, the unions would be filing complaints for the district being out of compliance with the contract. That is not happening.

When it is all said and done only one endorsement counts - the vote on November 3.

Maybe if you listed off everyone in the United States you may get it right. Once again, you are wrong. Keep trying as it does keep many of us laughing.

We all find it strange that you have such a fixation on that family. You must secretly envy them or is there some other feelings you have that you are ashamed to tell?

The Tribune was right, Jessica Shewmaker is definitely a "Homer" - Homer Simpson. Did the tribune spend all of 30 seconds deicding who they were going to endorse? Shewmaker and Fuller have been disruptive and empty-headed drags on the District and the children they are supposed to serve. Anyone who has spent more than a minute with Jessica Shewmaker knows she doesn't have an original though in her head - she couldn't even bring herself to complete a college degree.

Candidates like Mindy Miracle and Eileen Miranda Jimenez will bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to the Board, not to mention the fact that Eileen actually has kids in the district. Let's start putting kids first again in West Covina.

The Tribune really missed the mark on this one.

The whole family looks gross! Jessica and her mother wear their shirts tucked in to their elastic waist pants that are pulled up around their arm pits! The other daughter looks like she is the most miserable soul. The dad makes Edward James Olmos look handsome! They don't need halloween costumes!

[QUOTE who="WCUSD is not cutting programs, closing schools, or terminating employees as many other districts. The district has enough room for everyone, no teachers have to change classrooms and no student is without a desk or books.[/QUOTE]

Once again this is the point, and the facts. West Covina High School is overcrowded with 40 to 45 student ratio per class. And yet the candidates endorsed by the Tribune are not willing to make the hard decisions to get academic class size down. No student may be without a book or without a desk but with class sizes like that close to half are without a teacher. When the incumbents finally realize there is a problem.and finally react, and in the meantime a 50 to 55 students ratio is approched. We can stack and pact as many students in a classroom as we can if your for just storing them and collecting there revenue allotment, But I thought they are there to get an education. And worst of all there is no accountability for the district's inactions. Teachers know that in high class sizes more students are left behind and yet there is no accountability. So if you want more of the same follow the Tribune's lead. But if you care about the education of children vote for people that are willing to make the hard choices to get academic class size down. And make all those involved in education accountable.
