You mean the one LBJ put Sargeant Shriver (both Democrats) in charge of? Fine until the Republicans gutted it...it saved most of the Children in the Appalachian Mountains from starving.

BTW, some of the Points in your Post, I'm alittle doubtful of the total accuracy of them, so I'd like to know your Source. If I had an extra year to blow, I'd look them up one by one, & read the "rest of the Story"...to quote Paul Harvey.:+)

One more thing, you do know that Eisenhower was really a Democrat, but joined the Republican Party in order to get elected President. He was a darn good President, too. That was back when Republicans had some sense.
Aso, I noticed alotmof your points referred to Southern Democrats & Racism. We all know that the South was Democratic back then & also, as Racist as they come. So, that's no big surprise. But, believe it or not, alot of your points were before my time & I'd have to read up on them to get the full Story. Not to be arrogant, but I'm more concerned about what's going on today that what went on in the Past.

Has that war on poverty been successful? It's still on going. To keep the people down invent welfare. Give them just enough to get by and keep their vote for generations. There was a time we taught responsibility for one's action, now, we teach how to fill out welfare paperwork, provide "safe" cities for illegal immigrates, and glorify teen pregnancy. How many generations are on welfare now?

Hell, what happen to this promise?

"I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more than any other candidate in this race to take on lobbyists — and won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not run my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am president."

-- Barack Obama, Speech in Des Moines, IA
November 10, 2007

Well, I've never taken a survey because I have enough to do, just looking after my own business, but anything that saves Lives is well worth it to me. Now, if we could just get the TEApublicans to get out of the way and/or fulfill their campaign promise to create some jobs, I think things would work out alot better for the ones you're referring. I do know that alotof the Ones you're talking about would like to have a job, if there were any. I, also, know that alot of them are so used to the System taking care of them, that it's become a way of Life for them. But, we might could break that cycle for alot of them, but we cannot do it now. The Country's Leaders don't really seem to be worried about it, especially in the last 12 years. clinton, a Democrat, was the last President who even attempted to address the problem. So, if this is a great concern of yours, why weren't you concerned about it when Bush was President? Why only since Obama became President?

I haven't forgotten...I just tend to look at the big picture & try to look at all sides of an issue. When you can't fix everything , you have to fix the most important things, first.
How did I get on the defensive side of this issue? I'm not the President or a Member of Congress, I can't do anything about it. Don't jump me, it's not my fault. I watched it all set up to happen & couldn't get anybody else to pay attention, since 2000! I'll bet none of you did, either.

I think you have to go back a few years beyond Bush(?)! In his War on Poverty Speech LBJ started the fiasco called welfare. That was in 1964. Doesn't look like that war had been won!

I'll say it one more time, if the TEApublicans had gotten out of the way & let Obama succeed or fail on his own, then we would know how good or how bad of a President he would have been. As of right now, we don't know! If he loses his second term, we'll never know & if he wins & the TEApublicans keep doing the same thing, we'll still never know! Can you imagine trying to do your job & being "hounded " everyday of your Life the way they have hounded Obama. I would have probably said "shove it", had I been in his shoes!

Paying someone else's way while they do NOTHING has always been a concern. All you have to do is look at how much and how many people are on Welfare today compared to 1990 etc. The idea was to get them off after a certain time period, that didn't happen...why? Welfare is fast turning into another entitlement program, that unless something is done soon and fast will be the biggest economic drain on us far surpassing the Wall Street gangs a cronyism Politicians. Especially when 20 million illegal immigrants and their family members get amnesty. Wait for it - my guess - about September. Give a man a fish he has food for a day. Teach a man to fish he has food for a lifetime...

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Aries

Your emotions have the upper hand, making you rather fiery and fervent. That's great if you're hoping for a passionate encounter with you-know-who, because you'll be really hot stuff. However, in non-sexual situations you could become somewhat tempestuous and irritable, especially if you suspect that things aren't going the way you want.
