Why would anyone even think of the race of the family in this case? Man, I have been one naive mother all of my life. I really believed that racism was not as bad as the media always made it out to be. In fact, it seems that it was better in the 70's when I was a teen and it's gotten worse over time instead of better. What the phuck? I hate this.

I've noticed it getting really bad lately - about the time people were called racists if they were against the democrats and their health care bill. No doubt there were some racists prior to that, but now - it's like there are some who might be thinking that if they're going to be called a racist for no reason, they'll just act the part then.

I know what you mean about it being better in the 70's. That was during the Civil Rights Movement. When Martin Luther King was murdered, the ball was dropped and no one picked it up again. That is unfortunate. I imagine there are some "real" racists who really take advantage of an environment where they can spew their racism anonymously.

You are off by a whole decade. The March on Washington was in 1963, the Civil Rights Act was signed in 1965, the Voting Rights Acts in 1965, King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, and was assassinated on April 4 1968. The 70's were noted for the feminist movement.
