Take a look at national statistics, Cortland County has more crime, more poverty, more ignorance, more corrupt politics and a beyond disasterous high school drop out rate than any other County of it's size in the United States. Sexual and child abuse are rampant and go unnoticed or covered up.

You are a real brainchild. Where are you from? Tell me where can I get statistics on ignorance, corrupt politics and unnoticed and covered up child abuse?

//To say that there is corruption in politic in Cortland County in an understatement. I have lived in this area for 12 years now and have seen, first hand, corruption accross the board from law enforcement to the manipulation of federal regulations for personal benefit. Why bother with TV when there is enough drama and scandal here to keep us all entertained? It's too bad the right people don't seem to be watching. Hmm, well maybe they are.

I don't believe for a minute that anyone in this town would "cover-up" or ingnore a child abuse problem. Yes, our stats are high, but this is an area that the county has been over worked and under-staffed. Corruption do to greed, and ignoring the needs of a child, are two different things. The State needs to kick in more funds for intervention to support the highter stats that I believe are tied to the poverty in this area.

This is not the only county. This is taking place across the country, and until the innocent, as I am, have been subject to their malicious and vindictive injustices that are taking place within our legal system, they will only grow yet more powerul. Their strength amazes me...we are so close to tyranny...
Jennings County is one to check out... its the bermuda triangle of Indiana. Vernon, Indiana.

Cortland sucks. Its one county where a cop can get away with murder. He can serve just 6 months in jail for it and then be home with his family in time for Christmas

I left in 1969. There just was never a place "for me" in the Cortland area. When I visit now, I see a struggling area with more bars than factories. That is sad.

I've lived in Cortland for a few years and I think its a nice place. If everyone would stop being so negative maybe things would improve. Maybe you just don't have anything better to do.

Wow, I want to know where all these facts and statistics are coming from that makes Cortland one the most dangerous place to live in the country. One, when you look at statistics you have to base them on population. We have a small population and percentages may look higher, but that doesn't make Cortland the most dangerous place to live. Two, Buffalo comes up as one of the most dangerous places to live before Cortland. Cortland doesn't have much to offer, but it isn't some crack town.

Been around the world here several times. Cortland County is a typical struggling East Coast town that has seen better days through companies that the U.S. Government screwed up. Take For instance Smith Carona and Brockway.
The real problem is the Government, Cortland is becoming an extension of the South Side of Syracuse, the Government continually relocates city families with the hopes of "getting them out of the ghetto" way to move the ghetto to upstate!! Seperate Upstate from the City or reduce the welfare level Cortland pays (again state mandated). All in all, Cortland County is beautiful with great opportunity, we just need to lose the government relocation program and NYC

Cortland is not a dangerous place to live, in fact quite the opposite. However if you like a town where people can live their life in privacy and happen to be black, gay, poor or a single mother note that most of it's current residents within the city are stereotypical republican thinkers.

Using that silly logic, if you are black, gay, r a single mother then everyone in those categories should spend all their life in NYC, where supposedly people are more tolerant.
Hell no. Nobody pays my bills but me, I don't give a pig's bottom what people think or say. People here can be Republican if they want to, I have no problem with it. I enjoy Cortland, and I'm black and gay.

I feel as if Justin has the right idea. I grew up in Cortland and know first hand what kind of prejudices you can find in this area. I moved away after high school and lived for several years in a very liberal, tolerant area where I never once looked over my shoulder to make sure I didn't stand out too much as a "the Gay". I have just recently moved back and am somewhat relieved to see how it has improved in the area of tolerance. There are now gay friendly and gay owned businesses, as well as a local PFLAG chapter!! Cortland has a long way to go in terms of openness to differences but I think it is trying. Change can only come when you fight for it.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Aquarius

If you're still happily munching chocolates and all sorts of other goodies, you'll have to take yourself in hand at some point during the coming fortnight. Maybe you'll have to compensate for all the festive over-eating by taking more exercise or cutting back on the calories, or perhaps you'll decide that you can't delay giving up smoking any longer. As Mercury turns in your twelfth house of secrets, messages you receive at this time may be very subtle or contain hidden meanings meant only for your understanding.
