Iowa family featured on "Wife Swap" reality program

Boy, this show brings back memories of our nightmare of living in Iowa.

Boy, we sure are glad to have moved back to California!

Backwards, backwards, backwards, and ignorance are all we saw in Iowa. So glad to be gone!

This show was disgusting and very disturbing. Rather than air it the producers should have turned the parents in for neglect and abuse. No education, the nasty conditions they live in, not to mention endangering the childrens lives by subjecting them to dangerous molds and bacteria. The father and son were clearly psychologically unbalanced....very scary.

ABC should be charged for exploiting these children, and doing nothing about their situation.....and the State of Iowa needs to step up and do their job of protecting these kids.

This situation was not typical behavior for Iowans.I have lived here all of my life and I love it. That being said I would have called on them myself if I was their neighbor because they need help and to me that is what you do if you see someone in trouble you help. I feel sad for you if all you saw of our amazing state was ignorance and backwards people because that means you were not looking for the good.

I think we all see where the ignorance is. It left Iowa with you! I'm sorry this is the way you feel, but I can assure everyone you are wrong. I've traveled to many of the states and Iowa is not backwards. In fact, I've found that it is probably one of the best places to raise a family. Ignorance is everywhere and I'm sure Iowa is no different. However, Iowa is always near the top in education; maybe the ignorance has been imported.:) One silly television show, involving one family and their unusual lifestyle, is not a fair assessment of a state as a whole, or its people.
If so, I think California would be one of the top backward states with all the Beverly Hillbillies.

You think we're all the same here in Iowa, obviously you didn't live here long, and probably near the that family that was on Wife Swap. I'm from Iowa and it's beautiful here, nothing like what that family was like. Shall we start talking about how ignorant and fake the people are from California? We all have opinions on who lives in what part of the country... but you know what, you don't know anything until you've been there! And like I said, you obviously didn't live in Iowa very long! So drop it!

You know what's funny about your comment? I meet new people everyday that move their families from places like California to Iowa to give them a better life. And they are very happy they did! Sorry you went the wrong direction!

Mostly from the "officials." I have the most amazing thing to email you. I think you will be well entertained. I still can't believe what these people did. And they left the biggest paper trail I have ever seen. No IQ needed there folks!

I just saw this show for the 1st time today. While I don't believe this super f*cked up family is represenitive of the entire state, I do think this family should have kids and animals taken away, and the parents and kids sterilized--as you can see by their behavior they are lacking in the mentak stability department. I can't believe that the mother isn't knocked up by the 'son' and the daughter by her 'daddy' they are so backwards and brainwashed. Yes, I feel bad for the kids and if there is any hope for them I hope they get it. The parents should be publicly drowned in their spoiled milk vats!!

I am from Atlantic IA which is miles from Messena. I do not know that couple personally but my aunt and uncle do, as they basically run the town there. Also I have eaten at the Messena bar several times, and the food is WONDERFUL! Iowans are not like this couple. We are smart, clean and friendly people. I cannot believe that this is the family that got to show IA off. It is absurd and disheartening to see some of the posts say IA is so backwards. If that is the case, why do some of the most famous newscasters come to IA to learn broadcasting? To speak fluently with no accent? What presidents were born here? Anyone know that Grant Woods ' American Gothic' painting was done in IA? Or that Herbert Hoover always called IA home? Who was born in IA? George Washington Carver, Johnny Carson. I just cannot belive that this is how IA is shown and Im disgusted by it. We do not all eat raw meat, and live so filthy. I am a neat freak and almost burn food to make sure it is done. We are not all like that so please dont compare us all. IA is a great place to live, I wouldnt live anywhere else and am proud to raise my children in this great state.
