You may wish to move else where. The education system here is only cranking out idiots, pot heads and crackho skanks. You only need look at what walks around here to see the system is broken.

Every school system has it's high points and low points, high achievers and under achievers. Parent support is just as critical as teachers. Corbin is a good school, some people disagree but knox county schools are good schools too. Quit spreading the hate. Youcan support what you love without tearing down everything else.

Hate gets know where! Whitley and Corbin scored in top 15 districts overall last year in state test scores. I guess if u can't be happy wt one of them, leave the state!

Those are some of the remarks that rub people the wrong way and stir more trouble. Yay for good test scores, but there are better ways to say it.

An educational guardian can be appointed by the court - at your request - to manage your child's affairs when it comes to school. Some teachers at the high school are guardians to more than a few kids so they avoid tuition problems.
Before some smart guy says I'm crazy...I sat right in Judge Prewitt's court waiting for a small claim case and saw for myself.

Whitley teaches only what is needed for good test scores, nothing more! Sit in a classroom at a Whitley elementary school then sit in on one at Corbin and you will need only minutes to see the difference!

Sit in a classroom at a Whitley elementary school then sit in on one at Corbin and you will need only minutes to see the difference! Whitley teachers teach the common core standards just as Corbin teachers do. They are required to do so by law. Unfortunately, they do have to take Corbin's cast offs if they reside in Whitley County. Usually, these are behavior or attendance issues that Corbin refuses to deal with...and, to be honest, I wish county schools didn't have to deal with either. There is so much debate about teacher accountability these days, but, my question is, when are parents going to be held accountable? Why should teachers be accountable for test scores of kids who don't come to school half the time and kids who have no purpose for being there other than to be disruptive? As a society, we're so quick to jump on all teachers because of a handful who don't do their jobs without looking at the bigger picture. It starts in the home. If parents don't properly take care of and discipline their children and teach them the value of education and to respect authority figures, how can anyone expect any teacher to be successful in teaching them the extremely difficult common core standards? They're not miracle workers. Corbin is an excellent school district. There's no doubt about it and I applaud their success. But, there is a huge difference in the types of students that Corbin has to teach and that counties have to teach. Many of you that frequent Topix may disagree with me, but these are the observations that I have made to form the opinions that I have.
