The Corbin main street program COULD be like other main street programs across the nation; effective in revitalizing the downtown area. Instead, it has caused bitterness and a general feeling that our hard-earned tax dollars are being squandered. The main street programs are designed to bring about lasting, positive changes downtown that will encourage more activity and be a shot in the arm for struggling downtown businesses. Instead we have seemingly manic, ill-organized "activites" thrown together that have ZERO lasting effect. other than people making fun of them. For a better example of a successful program, look at London. London's streetscape program has been successful in the permanant beautification of downtown, and the funds have been spent wisely. Changes in the sidewalks, the addition of benches and seating areas, coupled with the "garden city" project has made it very pleasing to the eyes, and pleasurable to simply walk downtown. Their "Thursday Night Live" is heavily attended and features quality groups. The Corbin manager's approach has been nothing short of ridiculous. The pow wow, Thriller, train project, movies in the park and all the other junk attended by 50 or so people illustrate that Myers' approach is that of QUANTITY, NOT QUALITY. How can those events (that are POORLY organized and always thrown-together) have any LONG-TERM results? Less can be more, in some cases. I would prefer to attend just one well organized event over ten goofy ones any day, and I think most people feel the same. What happened to the idea of facelifts for the store fronts of downtown businesses? There has been some of that, but not enough, and that would be a LASTING change. There has been too much money spent on those huge flower pots to hide unsightly things. That is like putting clean underwear on a dirty butt. Also, she doesn't seem capable of working well with other people with whom she MUST in order for positive results to come about. There are more people interested in Corbin besides the five or so people that she hangs with.
I assume that when it comes time for a performance review for Myers, she will be armed with a folder containing dozens of projects and events that she has been involved with, but the question I hope the powers-that-be ask is; are they QUALITY project and events, or just a folder crammed full of failure after failure? Nothing personal against Myers, but my money helps pay her salary, and I am one person who is not satisfied with the direction that the main street program is heading.

Very well said! A post of this caliber should be sent to the Times Tribune for publication.

Let's not forget those "flea markets" downtown during the scorching hot summer too.

Thriller was a real mess no doubt about it. The Zombies were great, but I have to wonder if they dont feel a bit cheated. All those weeks of practicing and only getting to dance for 3 minutes.

I am really surprised that as many folks showed up as did. The only thing I saw was a small note in Saturday's paper saying if it is raining at 7: pm, the dance is at the Tech Center. The city police dispatch and WKDP were clueless about the dance. Ms Meyers was not prepared for this event and in my opinion, she got caught with egg on her face once again.

I think it is time for a change. We need someone who will promote our town and work in its best interest!!!!

great what has been said is true---- we need our town working togeather on a well needed project that will stand up and show its self down the road not these things that are thrown togeather overnight, yes go take a look at downtown London beautiful and my hat goes out to them --why cant we do things like that with the money instead of the crazy trains also not pointing any fingers but what good are these doing us????

The train project is an example of a good idea, that was rushed and the end result is disappointing. I am in no way knocking the efforts of the groups and artists who put time into the project and I think they did a good job with what they had to work with. An art project like the trains should have been just that; ART. The trains would be much more interesting if they were not all made exactly the same. For those unfamiliar with the project who pass by, it would be difficult to notice that they are actually trains, because the platforms are too big. It is like Myers passed out a coloring sheet to a class of a dozen or so and let them work with the exact same thing. If artists were asked to offer their (unique) idea of a train sculpture, imagine how neat that would have been! Maybe the project would have taken longer, but some things are worth the wait.

I would hate to think that is true, but if we are really stuck with her, I sincerely hope that she re-thinks her approach or else it is a waste of a program and money.

Who does she answer to? Who hired her? Hasn't she proved time and again after numerous, numerous failures that she isn' the right person for the job?

Why doesn't the city realize that they are throwing good money to the wind by employing Ms Myers?

I really haven't heard or read anything from Samantha Swindler in her defense.

Perhaps the best thing we can do as citizens of Corbin is to boycott her "productions" and maybe, just maybe the "higher ups" in the city will wake up realize that something is wrong.

Anyone know how long it will be before her job performance review? I am not happy with the wi fi deal. The should have used a local company, then maybe the service would actually work!

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Capricorn

Someone is being very pedantic and picky, and they'll soon drive you round the bend with frustration. They're splitting hairs about all sorts of petty problems, but unfortunately you won't be immune from this yourself. You might get caught up in needless details that don't really matter, or take everything that happens very personally. Try to be more objective.
