Ya bring your whole family to watch grown adults drunk off their butts ride down that hill at about 10 in the morning already drunk out of their minds kids could see grown adults relive themselves on the street corner or just in their pants what a joy then you could go from bar to bar and get drunk with them and spend all your money at the bars
then the canyon bar mafia can pocket a majority of the procceds and donate little if none to any of the great cherietys they speak of then brake there own arms patting themselves on the back for what a good job they did this year. LOL a smart person would just go fishing that weekend !!

Sounds like you were at the Whitefish Winter Carnival that weekend Joe! The Barstool Races are fun, many dollars go to charities, and if the canyon bar owners were mafia they'd have more money! If you don't want to go, don't go.

Well RHR just tell me how much you know for a fact like what charities? and what percent! if any its a joke. they claim all these great charities to get people to come and people to agree that its for a good cause not so much.
Tell it like it is were gona take your money that you think is going to a noble cause and use it to spruce up the bar buy some dope get high and try to figure out how to screw another buck out of as many people as we can by using good faith tatics.
come on up and help the canyon. as far as the whitefish winter carnival goes well its the same thing just the people are a little cleaner and they think there poo doesent stink and the canyon they know there dirty and it stinks but they dont care.
here is a quiz for you.
where do you hear " I have ten dollars in food staps I'll trade for two bucks cash."
In the canyon on cabin fever days!!!

The point is that cabin fever days are B.S. its just another way to talk you out of your money for a good cause, and in reality you are just supporting the bars in the canyon.
It is obviously not a family friendly atmosphere,
and I haven't seen proof of this great charity and where proceeds go to, have you?

I've volunteered for Cabin Fever Days for years. The Canyon volunteers raise money for a variety of charities, and most of the bars are generous enough to donate more than they have to out of their own pockets to charities including a community center in Hungry Horse, Martin City Fire Department, Canyon Christmas Kids Fund, just to name a few. I personally have handed money some of the charities supported, and the figures are published. The Trapline Assn. also maintains records of the money doled out every year. So yeah, you're right. You're being talked out of your money for a good cause!

Well rhr looks like you been brainwashed. In fairness let me here about it lets start with this grand "community center" who really owns it, what is its purpose and what proceeds go to it? Now why is only Martin City Fire Department included I thought that there were more fire departments up in that neck of the woods? In any case, why, what, and how do they get charity and what purpose. Canyon Christmas Kids Fund what is it and how much do they get out of the proceeds.
So in the end how much does the cabin fever days really bring in and how do them numbers go with what goes out to these so called charities?
My OPINION is that you are just a patsy to help duke people out of there money, and you do it for free!!!

Ask the Trapline Assosiation members. They have exact numbers, and can answer all your questions. I only included a few of the charities over the years. If you're interested in the charities check them out for yourself instead of being lazy. If you'd base YOUR OPINION on facts instead of paranoia you'd be a lot more interesting.

rhr now I will just call you patsy, because of the fact that you yourself know little about the cabin fever days and your comments are only opinion, because you do not even know what your volunteering for, so my point is proven that you don't know what you are talking about. your just standing up for something you know very little about. Glad to here your a volunteer, maybe you should do some volunteering for a better cause that really helps people out instead of helping a couple of bars bring down a town and a community for there own causes, like to make a buck, who cares about the dark shadow they cast over the canyon while doing it.

looks like rhr has giving up, probably because there is no way to prove that it is a good cause. Maybe rhr is trying to find the truth, in that case we may never here for rhr again, and its simple what I have said is the truth, and I hope as many people possible will read these comments and find in themselves not to support the cabin fever days, at least for the charitable purposes that they say they are doing it for. Its irresponsible and does more harm to the community than good. Only to benefit or line the pockets of certain people or businesses.
So if you get anything out of what has been going on here, you will see there is no proof of cherieties, good doing or total gross earning and there should be lots of answers especially after twenty some years you would think.
I find the way to stop it would be to not support it, and it will slowly go away, especially when pockets are not getting lined any more.
Of course there will be people like rhr out there still voicing there opinion with good intention not knocking rhr the fact is that these people are good people, good intentions, just steered down the wrong path by people with not such good intentions.
The fact is that people like rhr would be a great asset to the right origination with a "just cause" but in this situation rhr is just a brainwashed patsy, for the purpose to help cloke a "corrupt organization" if it even lives up to that standard.

Why would anyone take Joe's word as fact. He has made a lot of statements but has not backed them up with any evidence. If you are so against the races - don't go. Its that simple. For the rest of us, we will go and have a great time. I would go even if the money didn't go to charity. Get out of the house and enjoy Montana's fresh air.

This guy Joe sounds like a bundle of fun. Some people find fault with anything and he sounds like one of them. If Barstool Ski Races are so bad, DON'T GO!!! There are plenty of things planned for kids, you just have to check the schedule and make the effort to take your kids to them. If you spent as much time trying to find the kids activities as you did learning to spell I can understand why they eluded you. Those of us who do enjoy this FUN FILLED weekend and make the effort to go every year will not miss you.

fun filled Ha at whose expense obviously its not being held on a street in front of your house or you would have a different attitude I would bet and as far as fresh air goes why don't they do the races up the southfork on a road that is not inhabited by houses. lets throw a beer bash in your back yard Mel then the party could move to Laura's front yard by that time I bet you both would change your minds. But I would be glad to stand on your porch and tell both of you well come on out and get some fresh air its good for you, oh ya by the way we will move our rigs and your kids can come out and play with the half sober guy in the street maybe at about two A.M. you could listen to the few remaining scream at each other maybe even see a good cat fight the kids will love it wouldn't they..

Well Joe, we're so sorry that you're inconvenienced for 2 afternoons out of the year. There is security, teams that clean the streets after the races, a lot of money goes to charities that benefit the Canyon, and a lot of fun is had by all.... except you. If you would quit being such a jerk we'd invite you!

Well another successful year for the canyon mafia, looks like all the charities were paid in full ha!
Ok at least the bar owners started the year of with a kick. lol A little cash to tide them over until tourist season. For those of you that go to visit Glacier this year do forget to stop by the hungry horse community center, it hasn't been around for about three years now. But maybe this year some charity might go to it where ever it is.
Next year maybe we should have a big fundraiser lets see .......... Lets have a "Glacier Fund Raiser" Everyone that can send your money to your local bar, and donate as much a possible, because of your donations we will all stand around a bon-fire this summer and drink till we can hardly stand and collectively use our prayers in hopes that the ice glaciers in our national park do not melt. What a charity!! Just think your hard earned money could possibly save an Ice Glacier in Montanans great National park.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Libra

An emotional situation is as clear as mud today. You aren't sure about your feelings for a certain someone, nor are you convinced that you know what they're playing at. They may be saying one thing and doing another, and you might even suspect that they're playing games with you or trying to get what they can out of the relationship. Or maybe you're imagining the whole thing? Admit it - at this stage you simply don't know.
