What do you mean by that?
Most people are overlooking the fact this kid is a brat, because his dad is serving our country.

You might be right. What about firemen. They are away from their home for 48 hours, policemen, and countless other officials who come into contact with danger ever day on the job.

Remember, there is such a thing as voicemail where a message can be left.

I personally would not want cell phones to be going off during class time interupting the teacher teaching or students taking a test.

Yes, my kid had a cell phone confiscated by school policeman and had to pay a fine to get it back and he whinned about it. He paid the fine out of his own pocket and never violated the rules again.

Let the students listen to their voice mail during lunch or between classes. Keep the phones turned off during classes.

Well, now that the students have been getting so out of hand with the cell phones, the fine could be (or probably already has been) raised to $40 instead of $15 and I believe the parents have to come and get it this time. But I may be wrong about that part.

Having taught at CCHS for nine years, I moved on. After reading these postings I can see I did the right thing for myself. The majority of the students I worked with were fine young men and women...with parents who were supportive. These students have parents that have instilled both discipline and respect, since most come from military back ground. The problem with Cove it it is run by only a few and you have to be one of the good "ole boys". Looks like house cleaning is in order. Start with the school board and then the administration. Put in people in place of authority who have compassion and common sense!

You did not read enough. The student in question is not one of the students you spoke of. He is a whiner and his mother is a reactionary. The boy was in trouble earlier in the day and he did not take his punishment like a man. He whined to mommy, mommy instant messaged daddy, daddy called baby in class. It is hard to enforce rules when you have parents who go to the media because they did not get their way. I think it is a good thing you moved on since you judge without the facts.

Please do not judge my reading abiltiy, nor my move being a good thing. I did not judge without facts, merely, pointed out the facts. Nine years living and working in a community is enough time spent in being able to identify the problems. Rules are rules, not laws, sometimes a little common sense is in order. Have you worked in this district? Have you ever had a loved one deployed? As a parent, have you ever had a troubled or difficult teenager to deal with as a single parents. If you can not answer yes to all the above then you are the one who is judging without the facts.

You no longer live here. I do not work in CCISD (I work in KISD) but have read what the mother herself told the Killeen Daily Herald. You do not have to be a mental giant to figure out that

1. The parent lied to the television stations
2. The kid had been in trouble before and probably would not give up his phone
3. The father works with OTC and is not in immediate danger and therefore could have called at a better time.
4. Most people who live here are tired of this issue and have moved on.

Let see there is troubles at the high school, trouble with the city council, mayor issues, and still the issue of the local cops. I can definitely see why you are still there. The name fits...hiding behind an AKA instead of your own name.

The father is out serving in Iraq for our country and wants to talk to his son. The school was not responding to this like they should of. The teacher who followed the son out of the class room had no business with his phone call. The school made an agreement but they suspended it. The father and the family thought this would work, but apparently it did not. The son should of not been suspended from school for 2 days just because a solider calls in wanting to talk to his son. What if that was the last time the son ever got to hear or talk to his father? If I were the soilder's wife and that happened to my family, I would sue the school district because they didn't let my son talk to his father because the son was in school. And then, the father is killed in the line of duty without even a single "Goodbye" or "I love you" to his son. I would sue the school district if I were the soilder's wife.

Please...let's bury this dead horse! It's over. The boy has served his suspensions and has been back in school. And by the way, from what I hear, the father was not even in Iraq yet when this phone call took place...he was in route which, if true, he was in no way in any danger. What he should have done is told his wife there was nothing he could have done from his current location...see what you can do to take care of this yourself and I will talk to him when he gets out of school. She went to the media figuring she could use her husband's military status to get her brat son out of trouble and put the blame on someone else...because obviously, they can't make him listen at home, let's see how I can make myself look better! This whole situation was blown WAY out of proportion, and no one wants to see the bigger picture. There are reasons schools have rules...they are to keep order, and to ensure every student has access to a free, uninterrupted education. When that doesn't happen, the TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS AND OTHERS are there to do THEIR JOBS in order to keep their classrooms running smoothly. When that right is taken away from them, and criticized then it may be time for people to start looking in to HOMESCHOOLING their children if they do not want to raise them to have respect for rules, themselves and others.

I think it is important to take into consideration all the info when you pass judgement. This is a military driven area....
The kid had already gotten in trouble for texting.
The kids need to learn that rules are rules and they have to obeyed. Special circumstances deserve special treatment. Everyone agrees that there are times that this Dad should be able to contact his son. Emergencies. period. Calling him to talk to him about getting in trouble for texting should not apply.
I think that this mom is asking for special treatment. It is wrong. I have a kid in this school, and when I need to contact her....I follow the rules just like the majority of the parents.
This family's bucking the rules is teaching their kid that it is ok. It isn't.
CCHS lets the kids out early when the soldiers come home. They let the kids out when there are special things on Hood for the soldiers.
Being in the military sucks for the wives and the kids. I was a military kid. I hated it. Dad always gone....always moving....BUT that is why I am not in the military or married to someone who is. It is a life choice. They know what they are doing, they know the consequences. They need to stop complaining and try to live as normal of a life that they can. AND stop asking for special treatment all the time.

I think that if his dad can fight for our country then his dad should be able to talk to his son seeing how they only get a limited time and a certain time to call the united states to talk to family and the school should appologize to the student and the mother for the way they acted towards the matter I mean they had an aggrement with the assistant principl so they should not agree to something that they cant keep there end up of the arrangement

Wow I think you may need to meet a few more home school families. Many of the children who are homeschooled are being taught to have respect for others and themselves. Many parents could not stay all day with there children and teach them to read, write and think for themselves.
With all respect you may want to research homeschooling again.

The AP should be fired for making an agreement that they knew would create a problem in the school. The student should've gotten in trouble for his texting incident, not for taking the call from his father. The father should receive some punishment for causing the disruption of class. The mother should just get a public spanking for triggering the event in the first place.
Personally, I would see nothing wrong with the school using a signal jammer to prevent cell signals from entering/ leaving/ around campus. That should fix that problem.
