has anyone eaten at the new mexican restaurant 308 E. Ave D? if so, let us know about your experience.

understand it is family owned and operated.

going west on E. Ave D it is just before you get to the police department (the bldg Mel's used to be in).

hours Tue-Thurs 11 - 8, fri and sat - 11 - 9, and sunday 11 - 8. closed mondays.

Haven't tried it yet.
If it is really good it needs to find a new place to move into. That location is a kiss of death to former restaurants.

Mels did great but I will say those that followed just didn't cut it.

Yes, Mels moved. Had a good business but the landlord really ask for a huge rent increase when the lease was up. The move did not hurt because their business just increased. They have a lot of Fort Hood lunch customers

Sad to say that I have eaten there twice. Service was good, food very average at best. I was hoping for better.

I had lunch at the El Nopalito today and really enjoyed the meal. I would not say that it is better than some of the other places but it is different. I will say it as all made from scratch. I do give it high marks. The waitress, Apple, is very nice and adds to the visit. I shall be returning. Have talked to several people that have dined there and they have returned on several occasions. I don't think that you will be disappointed if you give it a try. Can't beat the $ 5.50 lunch. Check it out.

Joe. you should try the place. There is a big dining room and lots of parking in back of the buiding. Just driving by you would not notice this.

The El Palito has already closed its doors. No Advertizing and a poor location for a start up business. You can't just put a shingle out front and axpect business. Sorry to hear it as I thought they had very good food. Gotta have Captial to go into business and it appears most people do not have that asset
